Abstract

Students’ comprehension of narrative texts was hampered in the chosen educational setting, necessitating the implementation of effective interventions. The Rally Coach strategy, an emerging approach, is based on the notion that collaborative learning boosts student performance. This study aims to determine if there is a significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between students taught using the Rally Coach Strategy and those taught using traditional methods. A quasi-experimental research design was employed to assess the efficacy of Spencer Kagan's Rally Coach Strategy in improving students' reading comprehension skills. The study's t-test results showed a significant improvement in reading comprehension, with a value of 6.039 exceeding the t-table result of 2.048, indicating a substantial improvement in reading comprehension achievement. These findings support the alternative hypothesis, implying that implementing the Rally Coach Method in the experimental classroom would significantly improve the quality of reading comprehension instruction. Overall, this study adds valuable empirical evidence to support the Rally Coach strategy's effectiveness in improving students' reading comprehension skills. This study addresses a critical educational concern by identifying a successful intervention to address low reading comprehension achievement and emphasizes the importance of cooperative learning strategies, such as the Rally Coach Strategy, in improving students' overall reading comprehension abilities.

Abstract

As globalized EFL learners often elude themselves from participating in the designated reading learning activities prepared by their teachers due to the inevitable complexities, satiation, and frustration climates, the sustainable integration of a multimodal strategy is deemed as one of the essential digital learning approaches rewarding to be actualized by nowadays second language reading instructors. Previous researchers vehemently contended that with the support of a multimodal strategy, worldwide EFL learners no longer experience unpleasant reading learning climates since they interact with their digital texts enjoyably and meaningfully. This current small-scale library study is an actualization of the researcher's motivation to specifically reveal whether internalization of a multimodal strategy can reinforce globalized EFL learners' reading proficiency levels. To this end, the researcher employed a thematic analysis method in analyzing the specifically generated research results derived from 20 prior multimodal strategy scientific articles. To ascertain the credibility and relevancy of each analyzed research result, the researcher selected 20 already-published multimodal strategy articles ranging from 2018 until 2023. The thematically categorized research results highly advocated globalized second language reading instructors to arm language learners with the proper usage of a multimodal strategy to consistently promote more transformative reading learning enterprises in which EFL learners' targeted reading proficiency development can thrive to a greater level.

Abstract

Oral literature is a cultural expression that verbally transmits values from one generation to the next among the community supporters. This oral literature research aims at (1) presenting the stories' plots through the research's primary goal, 2) introducing the characters that appear in the story, (3) outlining the characters in the stories, (4) recognizing and explaining the settings of the stories, and 5) recognizing and defining symbols in the stories based on Yektingtyas's points of view (2016). The approach in this research incorporates literary criticism into secondary and primary qualitative data combined throughout the data collection process. The primary data were analyzed thoroughly, while the secondary data were utilized as references to analyze the primary data. The results show that Ilik was born to a mother under the shade without a father. Initially, the narrative focused solely on the character's day-to-day activities. The folks washing the pig gut rope cast away and flung the dog with the stone when he tried to devour the remaining portion. The pregnant woman and her children arrived in the village the following day to cook the raw pork they had managed to rescue. The portrait of this literary work depicts the characters’ lives and social harmony, allowing them to nurture indigenous values while learning to explore more life lessons from society.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the significant differences and effectiveness of podcasts on the listening skills of 9th grade students of SMP N 5 Jepara in the academic year 2022/2023. The researcher used a quasi-experimental design involving 30 students of 9H as the experimental class and 30 students of 9G as the control class. Data was collected using a listening test instrument consisting of pre-test and post-test. Then, the sampling technique used by the researcher was purposive sampling in which the sample was not taken at random. Furthermore, data analysis used SPSS statistical calculations. The results showed that the average post-test score for the experimental class was higher than the control class (86.9 > 78.9). This indicated that there was a significant difference in the post-test results. Then, the results of the hypothesis analysis showed that t observe was higher than table, namely (4,176 > 2,000). In addition, the 2 tailed sig was lower than alpha (0.00 < 0.05). This means that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. These results showed significant differences in the use of podcasts for students' listening skills. Besides that, podcast was also effectively used for listening learning.

Abstract

Register refers to a form of language variation specific to a particular community or group. Different language varieties within a community can convey distinct meanings. This paper aims to identify the forms of registers used by pro players from the Onic e-sports team in the online game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and to explain their functions. The data found were 18 registers used by pro players to communicate in the team. The form of the register is classified into two: lingual units of word as many as 15 registers and lingual units of phrase consisting of 3 registers. From these registers there are three functions, namely; a) enhancing communication efficiency, b) boosting hype and atmosphere, and c) facilitating communication among players. Studying these registers is significant as it sheds light on the unique linguistic dynamics of gaming communities, contributing to a deeper understanding of language use in digital and collaborative environments.
