Abstract

The industry is the current engine of the Indonesian economy over the past three decades; the economic structure in Indonesia has the transformation from the agriculture sector to the industry sector. The objective of this study is to examine the causality between agricultural, industry, and economic growth in Indonesia. By using the vector error correction model (VECM), this research finds that in the long-term, there is directional causality from the industry added value, economic growth on the agricultural added value. Meanwhile, in the short-term, the variable of industry added value and economic growth has the two-way causality. Besides, the agricultural added value can only affect the industrial added value and economic growth in the short-term. These findings support the idea that the agricultural sector plays a vital role in the economy, such as increasing economic growth and growth in other sectors, especially the industrial sector in this case.JEL Classification: F40, L60, O13, O47

Abstract

Many business owners attempt to apply for bank credit, but not all of them are approved. This study aims to reveal the factors determining credit approval to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME). The variables used in this study are the owner's capital, company establishment, collateral value, credit amount, owner's age, and good relationship with the bank. In this study, the logit model used as a technique of analysis, in which there is only one dependent variable in the form of dummy along with the other six independent variables. The statistical test reveals that simultaneously all independent variables have significant effects on credit approval. Partially, only the owner's capital and good relationships with the bank do affect the approval. Therefore, business owners should pay more attention to their amount of capital and interrelation with the bank when applying for bank credit.JEL Classification: C30, G21

Abstract

Along with an attempt to promote the export performance of manufacturing goods, the number of investigation about the potential benefit or harm of free trade agreements is still weak in Indonesia. This paper highlights the effect of ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Agreement (AKFTA) on Indonesian export of manufacturing products since AKFTA as one of the significant initiatives in Southeast Asia is expected to boost Indonesian export. By using augmented gravity models with panel data, this paper investigates the presence of trade creation and trade diversion effects on Indonesian export with 20 trading partners, covering a 26-year period from 1990-2015. Fixed effects with least square dummy variable (LSDV) models are applied to tackle the endogeneity problems of FTA by controlling the unobserved heterogeneity. The results showed that trade diversion outweighs trade creation effects in almost all categories, confirming a decrease in export from member to non-member countries.DOI: 10.15408/etk.v17i2.7342
