Abstract

The increasing business competition in the Coffeeshop industry requires every Coffeeshop to have a unique characteristic and always improve both operational and financial performance. This makes every business actor have a structured performance management system to increase competitiveness and business sustainability. Coffeeshop Bestari as one of the businesses in the culinary field faces challenges in improving individual employee performance and overall organizational performance in order to be able to achieve predetermined business targets. The research method used is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through literature studies to strengthen the theoretical basis and semi-structured interviews with Coffeeshop Bestari management to obtain a real picture regarding the implementation of performance management and the PDCA Cycle (Plan, Do, Check, Act). The results show that Coffeeshop Bestari has a performance plan oriented towards increasing turnover and customer attraction. These efforts are carried out through increasing the number of employees and implementing a service strategy based on the 5S concept (smile, greet, greet, be polite, and courteous) as a standard of service to customers. The implementation of the PDCA Cycle helps management in conducting more systematic planning, directed implementation, periodic performance evaluation, and continuous improvement actions. This implementation provides a positive contribution to improving the quality of service, employee performance, and the effectiveness of achieving the objectives of Coffeeshop Bestari.

Abstract

PT XYZ is a coal-fired Steam Power Plant (PLTU) with a capacity of 2×15 MW located in the Kariangau Industrial Zone, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The coal handling system at this facility faces several operational issues, including coal spillage along conveyor belts and transfer chute points, crushed coal particle sizes that do not meet specifications, and blockages in the coal feeder that collectively reduce overall production effectiveness. This study aims to measure the effectiveness of the coal handling system using the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) method, identify the dominant sources of operational losses through Six Big Losses analysis, and formulate targeted improvement recommendations. Data were collected qualitatively through interviews and Likert-scale questionnaires administered to 8 coal handling operators and technicians, then processed using the Min-Max Optimization method to convert questionnaire scores into OEE component percentages. The analysis results show an Availability Rate of 91%, a Performance Rate of 88%, and a Quality Rate of 64%, yielding an overall OEE value of 51%, which remains below the JIPM world-class standard of 85%. Based on the Six Big Losses analysis, Process Defect losses emerged as the most dominant loss factor at 72%, attributed to coal spillage and non-conforming crush sizes. The proposed improvement recommendations include the installation of a double sealing skirt rubber system, implementation of a Zero Spillage Initiative program, adoption of Defect Mapping Area, and control of the coal feed rate to the Crusher through adjustment of Vibratory Feeder speed.

Abstract

Mental workload is a critical factor influencing worker performance and safety in the oil and gas industry. The high demands placed on Industrial Hygiene personnel have the potential to cause mental fatigue, which can negatively affect work effectiveness. This study aims to analyze the level of mental workload among Industrial Hygiene personnel at PT X using the NASA‑TLX method. This method was chosen because it measures workload multidimensionally through six key indicators, making it more comprehensive compared to traditional measurement approaches. Data were collected using NASA‑TLX questionnaires, processed into workload scores, and analyzed based on workload dimensions. The results indicate that mental demand and temporal demand dimensions scored the highest, highlighting significant pressure on cognitive and time-related aspects of work. These findings suggest the need for strategies to control mental workload in order to maintain worker health and productivity.

Abstract

TThe process of oil palm plantation maintenance at PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Regional V that is not running optimally can cause various activities that do not add value (waste), such as waiting time, unnecessary movements, excess processes, and inefficient use of resources. The process of oil palm plantation maintenance includes various activities such as disk and market pickers, wire rope pickers, pest control, castration, preliminary shoots, stock inventory, construction of garden facilities, fertilization, and insertion. The complexity of these activities has the potential to waste time, so exploration was carried out through field observations, interviews, documentation, and literature studies to classify activities into Value Added (VA) and Non Value Added (NVA). The current state results show a Value Added Time (VAT) of 8,636 hours and a Non Value Added Time (NVAT) of 2,344 hours, which is dominated by wasteful waiting, transportation, and unnecessary movements. Based on this analysis, a future state was compiled with recommendations for improvements in the form of adding a tool warehouse and water tank in the garden area, adding workers, and improving coordination and process flow. This proposal is estimated to reduce NVAT to 1,640 hours and increase the efficiency of the oil palm maintenance process. With a Process Cycle Efficiency (PCE) value of 78.65%, dominated by wasteful waiting, transportation, and unnecessary movements, a future state was developed with recommendations for improvements such as the addition of a tool warehouse and water tank in the plantation area, additional manpower, and improved coordination and process flow. This proposal is estimated to reduce NVAT to 1,640 hours and increase the PCE value to 81.23%, thereby increasing the efficiency of the oil palm maintenance process by 2.58%

Abstract

    This study was conducted during an internship at the HSSE Department of PT Kilang Pertamina Patra Niaga’s Balikpapan Refinery, which focused on electrical work due to the high risks involved such as electric shock, short circuits, and fires that can threaten worker safety and disrupt production processes. To address this, the organization uses frontline worker and supervisor checklists to implement Element 5 of the Corporate Life Saving Rules (CLSR) regarding Powered Systems. The objective of this study is to evaluate compliance with the implementation of the CLSR Element 5 checklist for electrical work at PT Kilang Pertamina Patra Niaga RU Balikpapan, as well as to identify standard operating procedures, assessment aspects, and factors that influence workers’ compliance with the checklist. The objective of this study is to evaluate compliance with the CLSR Element 5 checklist for electrical work. The research methods used were field observations, interviews, and the completion of checklists. The results showed that neither company had any unsafe categories. They also demonstrated 100 percent compliance with all relevant and assessable items. The two contractors showed differences in the scores on the frontline worker checklist and the supervisor checklist, indicating that the current stage of work affects the relevance of the assessment items. PT ABB Sakti Industri had an “N/A” percentage of 21.43% on the frontline worker checklist and 11.11% on the supervisor checklist, while PT Wifgasindo Ciel 01 had an “N/A” percentage of 57.14% on the frontline worker checklist and 27.78% on the supervisor checklist. Due to these differences, the challenges identified include incomplete documentation resulting from security officer turnover without a proper handover, as well as procedural discrepancies that cause contract officers to experience confusion when filling out the checklists due to an inadequate transfer of information.

Abstract

Tanker Truck Operator (AMT) is a high-risk job because it involves direct contact with flammable materials, unpredictable road conditions, and complex operational pressures. Hazards such as fires, explosions, and loss of vehicle control can have fatal consequences for both workers and the environment. This is underscored by a 2025 workplace accident involving a tanker truck due to a vehicle system failure at PT XYZ, demonstrating that sources of danger stem not only from work behavior but also from technical aspects of the equipment. This study aims to identify potential hazards, analyze risk levels before and after control measures are implemented, and determine appropriate control measures for AMT work activities at PT XYZ. The methods used were Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Determining Control (HIRADC) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA), through direct observation of each stage of the activities and interviews with the HSSE Supervisor at PT XYZ. The results of the study indicate the presence of potential hazards in the gate-in, filling shed, and distribution processes, with varying risk levels. Before control measures were implemented, several risks were categorized as “very high,” including undetected vehicle damage, incomplete use of PPE, and loss of vehicle control. Control measures were implemented through the application of Pre-Trip Inspections as the primary mitigation step to significantly reduce risk levels and comprehensively protect the occupational safety of AMT personnel.

Abstract

Palm oil mill operations entail the use of various equipment and machinery, including hot wagons, capstans, hoisting cranes, slings, steam, slippery floors, noise, and work at height. The study's key findings are as follows: hazards have been identified, initial risks have been assessed, and priority controls have been proposed at the Chain Station. These findings are based on a Job Safety Analysis of the Sei Intan Palm Oil Factory. The methods used in this study combine direct observation, interviews, documentation, and risk assessment. Ten hazards were identified, categorised as three medium, four high and three extreme risks. The innovation lies in the translation of a general IBPR document into task-based JSA and shift safety patrol checklists.

Abstract

Weaving activities at the Dekranasda Building in the Riau Islands represent a traditional occupation that continues to hold cultural significance. This activity is performed manually using non-mechanized looms, requiring precision, hand-foot coordination, and prolonged sitting. Such conditions may lead to musculoskeletal complaints in the neck, back, shoulders, arms, and legs, affecting workers’ comfort, health, and productivity. This study aims to identify musculoskeletal complaints among weaving artisans and assess the postural risk during yarn setup and weaving activities. A descriptive quantitative approach with observational methods was employed. Data were collected through the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire to measure body discomfort, photographic documentation of working postures, and postural analysis using the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method. NBM results indicated that the most frequently reported discomfort occurred in the wrists, ankles, back, and shoulders. REBA analysis showed a score of 9 for yarn setup and 8 for weaving activities, both classified as high risk, indicating a need for ergonomic interventions. Discussion highlighted that prolonged sitting, repetitive arm movements, and forward-leaning postures increase the risk of musculoskeletal complaints. Ergonomic improvements, such as adjusting table height, seat position, hand reach, and providing work breaks, are recommended to reduce these risks. Future research is suggested to perform detailed anthropometric measurements of the artisans to design more suitable workstations and evaluate the effectiveness of ergonomic improvements in reducing musculoskeletal complaints and REBA scores.

Abstract

Market Basket Analysis (MBA) is a data mining approach used to identify association patterns between products in transaction data. This approach is useful for retail companies in understanding consumer purchasing behavior and designing targeted marketing strategies. This study aims to analyze consumer purchasing patterns at PT XYZ, a household and snack retail company, using the FP-Growth algorithm. The data consists of 1,200 customer transactions from January to March 2025. The FP-Growth algorithm was applied with a minimum support of 5% and a confidence level of 60%. The analysis results show product combinations with strong associations, such as "Instant Noodles" → "Sachet Sauce" (support: 0.15; confidence: 0.82; lift: 1.35), and "Bottled Drinks" → "Light Snacks" (support: 0.13; confidence: 0.79; lift: 1.31). These patterns indicate two purchasing scenarios: routine and impulsive, which can be utilized for cross-selling, bundling, product placement, and promotional strategies. These findings provide a basis for optimizing stock management and data-driven decision making.
