Abstract

Wood waste management is an important issue in the Mojowarno Jombang area, due to the high production of waste from the wood processing industry while its utilisation is only for firewood. This service aims to increase community awareness about the utilisation of wood waste into economically valuable products, while reducing negative impacts on the environment. The service partners include small and medium enterprise (SME) groups and local communities active in the handicraft industry. The method used is socialisation and technical training on processing wood waste into creative products such as handicrafts and economic goods. The training covers basic processing techniques, product design, and marketing. The results showed an increase in community skills and understanding in managing wood waste, as well as an increase in income through the sale of processed products. In conclusion, this service successfully created a circular economy model in Mojowarno by utilising wood waste into value-added products. This result is important because it shows that a community-based approach to waste management can be an effective solution to environmental and local economic problems. This service is expected to be an example for other areas with similar problems.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the preparedness of educational units in facing potential disasters through Disaster Safe Education Unit (SPAB) training. The training was conducted in three schools in Malang City, namely SDN Jatimulyo 3, MA Daruttauhid, and SDN Gadang 1, which were selected based on their low levels of vulnerability and preparedness. The method used was a participatory-educational approach through the stages of delivering disaster material, SPAB document preparation workshops, evacuation simulations, and psychosocial support training. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in the understanding and skills of school residents related to disasters, with an average increase in post-test scores of 40–45% compared to the pre-test. Observations and interviews also showed that the training encouraged changes in attitudes and behavior, including readiness to prepare and carry out emergency evacuation procedures. This activity strengthens the theory of contextual learning and community-based disaster education, and provides a practical contribution in the form of an applicable and easily replicable SPAB training model. The involvement of BPBD, IGI, and Dirgantara Rescue also strengthened the quality of the training. This SPAB training is expected to be a strategic model in building a disaster-resilient culture in educational environments.

Abstract

This study examines the role of traditional snack production within the nyongkolan wedding tradition of the Sasak community in Lombok, focusing on its function in cultural preservation and social cohesion. The research aims to: (1) analyze the socio-cultural significance of snack-making, (2) document women’s contributions to this practice, and (3) evaluate how the banjar system supports cultural resilience. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with community leaders, participatory observation, and documentary analysis. Findings reveal that snack-making is a core cultural practice reinforcing social solidarity, gendered roles, and collective identity. The banjar system facilitates resource sharing and adaptive resilience amid modernization pressures by organizing collective work groups and preserving culinary knowledge. The study concludes that these rituals are essential for sustaining intangible cultural heritage. It recommends supportive documentation initiatives and culturally aware tourism policies that empower local women and recognize the banjar as a key institution for safeguarding this living tradition for future generations.

Abstract

This community service program in the operational area of PT Sentosa Kalimantan Jaya, Tanjung Batu Village, Pulau Derawan Subdistrict, Berau Regency, was driven by the persistent risk of nutritional and health problems among children in daycare centers due to limited knowledge, attitudes, and practices of caregivers and parents regarding balanced nutrition. The program aimed to enhance community capacity through nutrition and health education based on Participatory Action Research (PAR), engaging caregivers, parents, and local health volunteers in all stages. The implementation method included needs assessment, collaborative planning, interactive material delivery, hands-on practice, and evaluation using pre-post tests and reflective discussions. The results indicated a significant improvement in nutrition knowledge scores, awareness of healthy food choices, and better child feeding practices. These changes were reinforced by active participation and social support developed throughout the program, fostering a sense of ownership over the intervention. This success suggests that participatory approaches adapted to local contexts can produce relevant and sustainable outcomes, with potential for replication in other plantation-based communities with similar characteristics.

Abstract

The rapid digital transformation in education has redefined teaching and assessment practices, demanding teachers to strengthen their competence in managing technology-based learning environments. This community service project aimed to enhance the digital capacity of teachers at MA Nurul Qadim by implementing Microsoft Teams as a central platform for instruction, collaboration, and assessment. The program employed a combination of applied training, participatory practice, and continuous mentoring to build teachers’ digital literacy and pedagogical adaptability. Through hands-on workshops, teachers learned to create virtual classrooms, organize learning materials, conduct interactive sessions, and manage student assessment within the platform. Evaluation results, drawn from pre- and post-training assessments, classroom observations, and reflective interviews, revealed a significant increase in teachers’ digital competence and confidence in using Microsoft Teams for instructional purposes. Moreover, the initiative produced Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent and sustainable digital practices across the institution. Overall, the project underscores that contextually grounded and structured professional development can effectively foster teachers’ technological proficiency, encourage innovation in pedagogical approaches, and build a resilient school culture that is responsive to ongoing educational transformation.

Abstract

The integration of technology-based instructional media has become essential to enhance the quality of early childhood education. However, many kindergarten teachers still face limitations in developing digital animated learning media. This community service program aimed to strengthen the pedagogical and digital competencies of kindergarten teachers at the UM Laboratory Kindergarten through training on creating simple animated learning media using Canva. The program employed a participatory training approach consisting of three stages: conceptual socialization of digital learning media, hands-on practice in animation development, and evaluation through knowledge tests and product-based assessment. The participants comprised 20 kindergarten teachers who completed the entire training program. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in teachers’ knowledge, technical skills, and self-confidence in utilizing Canva to design animated learning media aligned with early childhood developmental characteristics. All participants successfully produced simple animated instructional media suitable for classroom implementation. These findings indicate that practice-oriented technology training using user-friendly digital platforms is an effective strategy for enhancing teachers’ pedagogical competence and digital literacy in early childhood education, particularly in responding to the demands of 21st-century learning.
