Abstract

The purpose of this article is to conduct critical reviews of vocabulary teaching strategies that have been effectively used in English classroom. The data obtained is contained in the site Google Scholar with the topic Method for Teaching Vocabulary in English. The result of the analysis article shows some effective strategies for teaching English vocabularies, such as teaching English vocabulary using drama, flashcards, movies, animation videos, and crosswords.

Abstract

This study entitled Type of Slang Found in American Gangster Move Directed by Ridley Scott. The aim of study is to identify the types of Slang word used in the movie. The Qualitative method is used on this study. There were several steps taken in collecting the data such as: watching the movie, reading the movie script and understanding the words, phrases and dialogues by taking a noted of the data found, identifying and classifying the data based on the type of slang words found on the movie.  The writer uses the theory from Eric Partridge (1945) on the book of “Slang To-Day and Yesterday”. The study concludes that 15 slang words are found in the movie such as: shit, asshole, fuck, nuts, my man, cool, junkie, baby, bullshit, motherfucker, what the hell, bro, fellas, guys and dough. Based on the research results, the most widely used type of slang is society slang.

Abstract

The goals of this study are to define the procedure and outcomes of creating the vocabulary material using game quiz vocabulary in speaking instruction, to characterize the viability of creating vocabulary materials using game quiz vocabulary in speaking instruction based on the opinions of experts and practitioners, and to analyze the responses of teachers and students to the learning modules. There were three groups of the subject for this study: the students, the researcher as an observer and the English teacher in the class. The first validator provided the score of 84%. Likewise, the product received additional 80% of the total score from the second validator. The both validators concluded that the developmental product was adequate for teaching students how to speak. The vocabulary suitability procedure for the game quiz is broken down into two sections: an initial restricted field test and a main field test. According to the initial validation data, the developmental product obtained an 89% accumulation score. However, the second validation result received an 84% score increase. In addition, during the most recent meeting, the researcher asked the observer to assess the developmental product.

Abstract

Problem-based learning (PBL) is an instructional method in which students learn through facilitated problem solving. In PBL, students work in collaborative groups to identify what they need to learn to solve a problem. They engage in self-directed learning and then apply their new knowledge to the problem and reflect on what they learned and the effectiveness of the strategies used. The teacher acts to facilitate the learning process rather than impart knowledge. The goal of PBL is to help students develop 1) flexible knowledge, 2) effective problem-solving skills, 3) effective collaboration skills. This article aims to find out whether PBL can help students to think critically and how teachers implement Problem Based Learning in English class. In addition, this research was conducted in class VIII D with 30 students, there are 15 females and 15 males of SMPN 21 Kota Serang using qualitative case study method. The data was collected used observation and interview. The result of this study shows that Problem Based Learning helps students to think critically.

Abstract

This study was aimed to investigate students’ English vocabulary mastery improvement using the Look-Say method. The quasi-experimental was used as the research method and the sample was the seventh-grade students of the Islamic School in Dahu Banten. The instruments in this research were the pre-test and post-test. The content validity was used to test the item tests validity and the IBM SPSS Statistics 23 application with the Cronbach Alpa formula was used to test the reliability. The findings showed that there was an increase in mean scores from pre-test to post-test: the experimental class’s average score increased from 38.97 to 91.03, while the control class’s average score increased from 40.09 to 59.11. The Independent T-test from students’ score of the post-test was 0.00, which indicates a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Look-Say method can enhance the seventh-grade students at Islamic School in Dahu Banten

Abstract

The aim of this research is to examine whether interactive PowerPoint is effective or not in teaching speaking narrative text. This research used a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design. This research was conducted in senior high school, with a sample of two classes determined by cluster random sampling technique consisting of 50 students. There were 25 students in class X-B and 25 students in class X-K. The research instrument is speaking assessment task using extensive (monologue) with the topic “The Legend of Malin Kundang” and “Princess Mandalika”. The students’ performance was measured using analytic rubrics. The result of data analysis using SPSS version 29th. The hypothesis testing results proved that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected because the value t–test (2.039) was higher than t-table (2.011). This research shows that interactive PowerPoint is effective in teaching speaking narrative text.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the perception of the use of WhatsApp applications as a medium for online learning. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative survey. Questionnaires and interviews were used as data collection techniques The objectives of the research are to know the Students’ Perceptions of the Use of WhatsApp applications as a Medium for Online Learning., and to know the benefits and difficulties of using WhatsApp applications as a media for online learning. Based on the findings and discussion, it can be concluded that the implementation of WhatsApp has advantages and disadvantages. Most of the students agreed that learning through WhatsApp is more flexible but on the other hand, they hard to understand the material.
