Abstract

Introduction: The rate of work accidents in the construction sector is still high. Such a situation has led to the need for risk management in the area of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH). This study is aimed at finding the OSH risk management of the tank sinking procedure using Bow Tie Analysis method in the construction of a Shell Gasoline Station in Surabaya. Methods: This is a qualitative descriptive study with case study design. The subjects of the study were the employees of PT Usaha Jaya Engineering who worked on the Tank Sinking procedure in the construction of a Shell Gasoline Station in Surabaya with the minimum service period of 2 years and with a total number of 7 people.  Data collection was executed using primary data derived from interviews and field observation as well as secondary data in the forms of supporting documents from the company. Results: As many as 9 hazards were found in the tank sinking procedure in the construction of a Shell Gasoline Station in Surabaya. These hazards were caused by 5 factors, i.e., human, machine/equipment, method, material, and environment. The possible consequence of such hazards is that the employees may experience light to serious injuries and even fatality. Prevention and mitigation measures might be implemented in 4 hierarchical steps of risk management, i.e., substitution, technical management, administrative management, and personal protective equipment (PPE). This study found 6 escalation factors and the barrier of escalation factor in the tank sinking process. Conclusion: The tank sinking procedure in the construction of a Shell Gas Station in Surabaya was a job with risks of work accident. Prevention and mitigation measures derived from the Bow Tie analysis might be implemented to prevent work accidents from occurring.

Abstract

Backgrounds: Generally speaking, unsafe acts and unsafe conditions are the causes of work accidents. Based on the HSE reports, the cases of occupational accidents in the Hospital Y project in the last 7 months until October 2021 had amounted to 20. The correlation between the unsafe acts as well as unsafe conditions and the occurrence of work accidents constitutes the basis and objectives of this study. Methods: This study is quantitative in nature, with analytical observation implementing cross sectional approach. It involved 63 out of 130 workers (consisting of staff, supervisors, and subcontractor workers) who were selected using purposive sampling technique. Instruments in the forms of questionnaires, observations, and documentary studies were implemented. The data were further analyzed using chi-square test, fisher test, and cell pooling. Results: It was shown from the statistics that the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Knowledge gained the score of (p=0,066; PR=1,368; 95%CI=0,995-1,879), Load of Work (p=0,010; PR=0,647; 95%CI=0,457-0,916), OSH Training (p=0,029; PR=1,833; 95%CI=0,873-3,848), Equipment Safety Gear (p=0,005; PR=1,682; 95%CI=1,102-2,567), and Operational Procedures (p=<0,0001; PR=1,934; 95% CI=1,251-2,991). Conclusions: It is found that no correlation was existent between OHS Knowledge occurrence of work accidents. However, there was a correlation between work load, OSH training, and equipment safety gear and the occurrence of work accidents.

Abstract

Background: Covid-19 pandemic has affected various aspects. One of them is the shopping center/retail sector since a shopping center is a place which is susceptible to the dissemination of SARS-CoV-2 viruses so that health protocols should be implemented and employees should comply with the health protocols in the workplace. Objective:  The study is aimed at finding the correlation between the implementation of Covid-19 health protocols and compliance among employees of Mutiara Cahaya Department Store Slawi.  Method: This is a quantitative correlative study with cross-sectional design. The research subjects were all employees of Mutiara Cahaya Department Store Slawi with the sample consisting of 48 respondents.  Data Analysis: Data were analyzed using a univariate test in the form of frequency distribution and a bivariate test using Chi-Square. The results of the analysis showed that the implementation of Covid-19 health protocols in Mutiara Cahaya Department Store Ciawi ran quite well (39.59%) with employees’ compliance which was good as well (64.58%). The results of the research showed that there was a significant correlation between the implementation of health protocols and employees’ compliance with (pValue = 0,000) meaning that if the health protocol is good then the employees’ compliance is also good. Conclusion: Compliance with the implementation of health protocol which has been performed by the employees and management of Mutiara Cahaya Department Store Ciawi included mask wearing, hand washing, temperature check for employees and visitors, limitation of operational hours, provision of >1 meter distancing marks, installation of separators on cashier desks, and workplace cleaning with disinfectants.

Abstract

Background: One of the efforts to reduce accidents is to use the Do It method. Work accidents caused by incorrect work behavior. One of the theories used for the ABC theory uses the Do It method to perform maintenance. The purpose of this study is to determine the behavior of workers in the Daily Check section at the Locomotive Depo PT. Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operation Area VI Yogyakarta using the Do It method. Method: This type of research is qualitative research. Subjects in the study were 5 people consisting of 4 officers of the Daily Check section and 1 leader of the Quality Control Section. Data collection is done by observation, reviewing documents, and interviews. Results: The results of the study revealed that the status of workers' behavior in the Daily Check section officer in the category behaved safely. Judging from the predetermined and observed behavioral targets, the safety briefing activities have a percentage of 90% behavioral status, 62,5% percentage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use behavior, and 94,2% percentage of compliance procedures. Conclusion: The behavior status of workers in the Daily Check section officer behaves safely. Behavioral targets and observations were carried out namely safety briefing activities, PPE use behavior, and compliance with work procedures.

Abstract

Occupational Cervicobrachial Disorder (OCD) is a functional and/or organic disorder at the upper extremity due to neuromuscular fatigue caused by working activities at a fixed position or with repeated movements. The rate of musculoskeletal system disorder among mechanics in a number of countries has amounted to 76-92%. A preliminary survey using Nordic Body Map Questionnaire showed that the mechanics at a Honda workshop in Umbulharjo felt the work-related pain at the upper extremity. Therefore, intervention was deemed required to reduce such pain. Muscle stretching was selected as the intervention to be provided. This study is aimed at determining if muscle stretching has an effect on the reduction of OCD related pain among the mechanics at a Honda workshop in Umburharjo Yogyakarta. The study was quantitative in nature with quasi-experimental design. Based on cluster sampling technique with tracer survey methods, 30 samples were selected and divided into 2 groups, i.e., intervention group with 20 respondents and control group with 10 respondents. The measurement of pain scale was performed using Visual Analog Scale. The research results showed that there was significant reduction of pain scale upon the intervention of muscle stretching with the frequency of 6 times per week. Hence, the study comes up with a conclusion that muscle stretching has the effect on the reduction of pain caused by OCD among the mechanics at a Honda motorcycle workshop in Umbulharjo Yogyakarta.
