Abstract

The objective of this study was to find the use of affixes in the novel ―Dubliners‖ and to describe the dominantly type of affixes used in the novel ―Dubliners‖. This research took place in the library of Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatera, which is located at Jalan KaptenMuchtarBasri No. 3 Medan. The reason of choosing this place was in terms of fund and time. And there had many books related with the study that can be used as the reference. This study analyzed the affixes in the novel ―Dubliners‖, so the descriptive qualitative method was applied in this research. From the analysis it was found that there were two types of affixes found in the novel of James Joyce. They were prefixes and suffixes, there were 32 Prefixes (16%) and 168 Suffixes (84%) that in the three editions, the Affixes that appeared appeared most frequently in the three editions were suffixes (168 words/84%).

Abstract

This study deals with the structural argument and pragmatic analysis on Dua Sisi Talk Show. The objectives of the study were to analyze the argument structures of the speakers on Dua Sisi Talk Show, to investigate the speakers’ ways in delivering arguments and to  find out the dominant types of speech act used by the speakers on Dua Sisi Talk Show. This study applied a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. The data were the utterances presented by the speakers on Dua Sisi Talk Show. The technique of data analyzing was from the data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The research finding showed that there were 32 arguments found in this research which consist of 13 standard arguments and 19 non-standard arguments. Furthermore, there were 22 arguments categorized as locutionary acts, 4 arguments categorized as illocutionary acts, and 6 arguments categorized as perlocutionary acts based on Austin’s theory. Locutionary act was the dominant type of speech acts found on Dua Sisi Talk Show.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to increase students’ speaking ability in SMPN 2 Dewantara. This research classified as an action research. The subject of this research were 75 students of class VIII of SMPN 2 Dewantara. It was conducted in two classes in experiment. The data were experiment and control group. The data were obtained through observations and playing simulation games. The research applies pre-test and post-test design. The pre-test is given before the students received the treatment. The form of pre-test and post-test for experimental and control class is the same. It is intended to get the effective method in students’ achievement. The actions implemented in this research were simulation games in the teaching and learning process of speaking, implementing simulation games based activities, giving feedbacks to students’ performances, accustoming students to opening dictionaries, giving handouts as daily materials, and giving rewards the active students. The results of the research showed that the simulation games in the teaching and learning process of speaking was believed to be effective to increase the students speaking ability. The students’ motivation increased. They were more enthusiastic in learning speaking. Moreover, the students were interested in various materials presented by the teacher. They could get involved actively in the speaking learning process. Furthermore, the result of the research also showed that the improvement on the teaching and learning process affected the improvement on the students’ speaking ability.

Abstract

The adjective of the research were to find out the types of code mixing and code switching.This research focuses in analysis DyahRoroEsti’s utterances in Podcast where the channel is “Millennial Power” which contained code mixing and code switching in the audio as the data of research. This research used Qualitative Content AnalysisDesign. The technique of data analysis used theory of Miles and Huberman that contains data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. The result of this research found that there are three types of code mixing and code switching. Code mixing contained insertion which occured 31 data, alternation 8 data and congruent lexicalization 1 data. Code switching contained tag switching which occured 5 data, intra-sentential switching 43 data and inter-sentential switching 22 data. It was expected that this research helps everyone who wants to know about bilingualism and code mixing and code switching.

Abstract

This research discuss about the types of directive speech acts in 99,99Komik Strip Kids Jaman Now comic book. This comic book tells about the children daily life with nine ethnics and local wisdom in three languages. The languages are Bahasa, English and local language. The objectives of the study were to find out the types of directive speech acts and to show the most dominant type used in the comic book. This research used Searle and Yule theory to conduct the types of speech acts. There are 4 types of speech act as the focus of this research. They are command, order, request and suggestion. The method of this research is qualitative research. The data was taken from characters utterances on Melayu Deli ethnic and Batak Toba ethnic story. The result of research found 28 directive speech acts. It consists of 6 commands, 1 order, 10 requests and 11 suggestions. The typemost commonly used in thestory is suggestion.

Abstract

This study deals with the Language Variation found in The Interaction between buyer-seller at Traditional Market. The objective of this study was to describe (1) The types of language variation between buyer-seller in dialogue interaction at Traditional Market and to identify (2)The factors that influence language variation between buyer- seller in dialogue interaction at Traditional Market. The method in this research is descriptive qualitative method, where data is collected through recording techniques and note-taking techniques in the form of accurate conversation sin accordance with the natural characteristics of the informant sand then transcribed by the researcher in the form of text.The findings of research his the variations found in the interaction of buyers and sellers in traditional markets are variations in terms of speakers such as dialect;variations interms of usage,namely registers;variations in terms of formality such as casual style; as well as variations in terms of facilities, namely the oral style. This is dueto several factors found in the data namely,age, social status and gender.

Abstract

Archiving is an activity of placing and storing important documents in an organization, both companies and agencies, which aims to ensure the safety of an organization as written evidence, both in the form of pictures and so on. The purpose of this study was to determine the function of archives in the effectiveness of data collection for recipients of the livable housing program at the sub-district level. The type of research used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. This study took as many as seven speakers. The data collection technique used in this research is interviews. The results of this study indicate that the supervision of the archives of livable houses is a task in the general section of the Public Housing and Settlement Areas Office and is assisted by technical implementing officials or PPTK, the sub-district only coordinates in data collection, not under supervision, the planning of the livable housing program has not been able to it is said to be precise and directed because there were obstacles in 2019 this program could not be continued due to the lack of government budget to continue the program and in 2020 this program has also planned to build 23 units but there are still obstacles due to the covid 19 virus which causes partial budgets disbursed for covid assistance. The livable house program has a clear goal of alleviating poverty but maximum efforts are needed so that this program assistance is more evenly distributed, the facilities and infrastructure provided in this program are only sanitation in every house, the physical building of the house is not strong enough so that this building cannot be used for a long period of time. Thus, archive managers should be more careful in choosing the criteria for recipients of the livable housing program so that the assistance provided is right on target to people who really need it. Abstract

This study aims to determine the relocation strategy of the Cureh main market in Bireuen Regency. The method used is descriptive research method with qualitative data analysis, which is a type of research through problem solving procedures that are investigated by describing the circumstances surrounding the research object based on facts and the data collection technique used is interview technique. Based on the results of this study, it is known that the relocation strategy of the Cureh Main Market, Bireuen Regency has been running effectively, such as the responsibilities of the Office of Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and SMEs which have been implemented properly. Supervision carried out by the Office of Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and SMEs of Bireuen Regency is carried out by monitoring the relocated traders in the Cureh Main Market and confirming the traders who are still selling in the old market. Then the facilities provided by the Office of Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and SMEs have a level of equality and can meet the needs of traders, but there is no coordination between the service and local companies. It is hoped that the Office of Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and SMEs will be more responsible for the traders who were relocated to the Cureh Main Market so that there are no more complaints from traders. The Office of Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and SMEs will maximize supervision of traders who have been relocated to the Cureh Main Market, especially for traders who are still in the old market. has been provided, the Bireuen Regency Government to be able to form a regional company that can coordinate with the existing market in Bireuen Regency so that it can run effectively. Abstract

Poverty is an undeniable social problem that appears in people's lives. The problem of accountability for the recruitment of social welfare workers in the West Medan sub-district, Medan City is still experiencing several obstacles. The purpose of this study was to determine the Accountability of Recruitment of District Social Welfare Personnel in the Context of Effective Implementation of the E-Warong Program in Medan Barat District. The type of research used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. This study took as many as five speakers. The data collection technique used in this study is interviews. The results of this study indicate that the accountability of the recruitment of sub-district social welfare personnel in the context of the effectiveness of the implementation of the e-Warong program in the District of West Medan has been carried out well, but the recruitment process is not transparent because it does not refer to the ease of use. access to information regarding matters relating to TKSK recruitment. In accountability, TKSK recruitment is accounted for by several agencies starting from the Ministry of Social Affairs, Provincial Social Service, District/City Social Service and District Government. That way in the TKSK recruitment process, identification and planning stages are also carried out, namely by identifying TKSK candidates to be recruited such as the abilities and skills of TKSK candidates. determination of TKSK candidates. In the implementation of TKSK recruitment, it has not fully gone well because the recruitment process is not carried out transparently. Thus, the government is expected to use publication media to be more open about the process of implementing TKSK recruitment and provide guidance and training to the selected TKSK so that they can carry out their duties in helping to achieve the effectiveness of the implementation of the e-Warong program. Abstract

One phenomenon that is currently rife is the practice of buying and selling food with extreme names. Food with these extreme names is already rife in the midst of society. The problem in this thesis is how are the legal provisions in the culinary business using extreme names in the perspective of Islamic law and National Law, what are the consequences of culinary business law using extreme names in the perspective of Islamic law and National Law, how is the culinary business in accordance with the rules of Islamic law and National Law. The research is a normative juridical research with a normative juridical approach using secondary data processing primary legal materials, secondary legal materials and tertiary legal materials. Analysis of the data used is qualitative data. Based on the results of the research that the legal provisions in the culinary business using extreme names in the perspective of Islamic law are not in accordance with the MUI Fatwa Number 4 of 2003 concerning the Standardization of Halal Fatwa in the fourth section regarding the problem of using names and or symbols that lead to kufr and falsehood. The legal basis for regulating the distribution of food products is Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection, Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 36 of 2009 concerning Health and Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 18 of 2012 concerning Food and other laws and regulations. The legal consequences of the culinary business using extreme names such as using the words hell, devil, devil for the names of food products, beverages, medicines, cosmetics, and clothing because things are prohibited in Islam and the law is haram while according to Law Number 18 of 2012 concerning Food, that food and beverages that do not meet standard provisions, health requirements or endanger health are prohibited from being circulated, withdrawn from circulation, distribution permits are revoked and confiscated to be destroyed in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations. Culinary business that is in accordance with the rules of Islamic law must be in accordance with syara' law, meaning that in the concept of Islamic law there are things that can be done and there are things that cannot be done and Islam teaches that in business you must apply the principles of business ethics while according to the consumer protection law. business actors are obliged to provide information regarding the composition of food and beverage products. Business actors who trade food and beverage products provide clear, honest information regarding the composition and halalness of traded food and beverage products to protect the rights of Muslim consumers against non-halal products.
