Abstract

The use of back calculation method in pavement system analysis is very common nowadays. There are many computer programs available to perform back calculation process on FWD deflection data. The results from back calculation process are the elastic moduli of pavement layers. These pavement layer moduli, particularly asphalt layer moduli, are affected by such factors as temperature and survey load. This study was carried out on jln. Sukarno-Hatta in Bandung where FWD deflection data were measured at various temperatures and survey loads. This paper outlines back calculation process performed comparatively using program BackCalc and program BackFAA. It was found that temperature and survey load influenced the resulting pavement moduli significantly, and as expected, the two computer programs resulted in quite consistent pavement moduli. Key words: FWD deflection bowl, back calculation process, program BackCalc, program BAKFAA

Abstract

General condition network of national roads in 2005 indicated 11% (3.809 Km), their condition were heavily damage, 8% (2.770 Km) light damage, about 81% (20.050 Km) in good condition. The increased damage of roads is caused by some factors: specification of construction is not appropriate and supervisor or implementer is not professional and nature disaster etc. But environmental factor often is forgotten. Studying of environment for building and increasing of roads based on Kepmen Lingkungan Hidup No. 17/2001 and Kepmen Kimpraswil No.17/2003 it’s clear, it must be equipped with AMDAL or UKL/UPL but the documents in realization are not benefit so that it is ignored and never to make survey too. Result of studying for some documents AMDAL or UKL/UPL inroads sector, damaged roads will not increase if the document are arranged professionally and responsibility, user has to do the suggestion in document. Technical studying of environment needs to the attention for increasing the roads plan age are tophographie data, soil data, social-economic survey, hydrology data (drainage system) and vegetation condition around the project area, including in environment control plan. That control on decrase road damage about 5-20%. Keywords : Environmental Control, Roads Contraction

Abstract

The use of integral bridge abutments eliminates the need for deck joints and bearings. The absence of joints and bearings significantly reduces construction and maintenance costs, compared to conventional bridge types with joints. A standard design method for integral bridges does not exist. The girders are designed on the safe side, as simple supported girders, that is not taking the restraint from the embankments into account. A short span 22m concrete integral bridge design is being studied for application in future road betterment programs. Integral bridge technology needs still more research for innovation improvement. Satisfactory performance of a full scale execution will increase the integral bridge type selection in future bridge projects.

Abstract

Asbuton is Indonesian natural resource with a large amount of deposit, but has not been effectively utilized. On the other hand Indonesia imports asphalt about 650,000 tonnes per annum. Technology improvement to produce Asbuton with can be effectively used both in mixture and in asphalt content is immediately required. This article describes the properties of Asbut on resulted from extraction technology with has little mineral content ( < 1% ) and also describes properties of bituminous mixtures using bitumen Asbuton and asphalt cement pen grade 60 by Marshall method. The stiffness modulus properties of bituminous mixtures, resistance against deformation or accumulative strain due to repeated loading were examined in various temperatures. The test results show that bitumen of Asbuton extraction and asphalt mixes using bitumen Asbuton, generally has good performance compared to conventional asphalt cement especially for tropical area such as Indonesia.

Abstract

Since three last decades, number of traffic accidents in Indonesia have not yet been showing a significant reduction, although Police reported a decrease trend in number. In year 1971, 23294 occurences have been reported and decreased to 13399 in year 2003. However, Index Fatality is still high, it was 11.9% in year 1971 and increased up to 39.9% in year 1996 and tends to increase if there is no real action to stop the growth. It warned travellers by high probability of their involvement in an accident, five out of 10,000 vehicle ownership, are regressed involved in an accident and four out of ten of victims are of fatals. In order to overcome the problem, an accident reduction program has been setup and to be implemented, started from North Sumatra Corridor (North Sumatra, Riau, West Sumatra, and Aceh provinces) and Bali and to be continue to other provinces. This paper aims to present a conceptual back ground of this traffic accident reduction program, covering organization under related institution to be developed in the region, a coordination model, traffic accident investigation unit, and practical technology needed and applied.

Abstract

Two variations of preconditioning are given for repeat loading test unbound material are1000 cycles and 100 cycles. The change of the confining pressure and total axial stress after each preconditioning, creates drop on the value of the strains increment. The proportion of dropping value for resilient strain is lower for 100 cycles than 1000 cycles preconditioning, from the equally lines. Whereas, the different between permanent strains increment for both preconditioning are not too significant. It shows that the resilient increment strains drop for 100 cycles smaller than 1000 cycles. Increasing the total number of pulses or cycles will influence on the increasing the increment of strains, the proportion of increment tend to become higher by increasing the cycles.

Abstract

Pavement design using mechanistics approach has developed rapidly since a few decades ago. This sort of methods has been a choice because it is very efficient and effective as well as figure out the real condition of pavement system. Using this program, ones can vary type of materials that is possibly used for the pavement system. Currently, many computer programs are available for mechanistic approach which one of them is mePads. This paper tries to detail the effectivity and efficiency of using mePads for pavement design. It is found that this program is very useful for researchers who deal with the stresses and strains in pavement system. Another finding is that the design using mePads is a bit conservative compared to that of AASHTO’93

Abstract

At the time most of overlay design methods use the deflection data which are collected through Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD). Some methods that using this type of data are namely Austroad, AASHTO’93, and many others. The AASHTO’93 method applies some iterative procedure. In order to make the calculation much faster a program of Visual Basic has been performed. Using this program, some advantages can be reached i.e. variation of cumulative standard axles and thickness of overlays required, prediction of remaining life, and also avoiding the human error during calculation process.

Abstract

Bridge is transportation infrastructure and connection of some areas, either in land, sea, river, or mountain have to fulfill planning criteria. Among bridge planning criteria a i.e. standard of strength, inertia, stability, security, and ride ability. Assessment of bridge residual value or capacities are very important in a scheme of repair and bridge rehabilitation, or whether a bridge is properly used or not. The girder of bridge in general one with slab of bridge. Therefore, the approach used to calculate capacities of cross section is T girder. Capacity of T girder is evaluated with ultimate strength concept. This theory has proven through experiment by many experts, and close to actual condition.

Abstract

In a multi layers pavement structure, each layer should be integrated. In overlay work tack coat is used to bond between existing and new layers.New asphalt mixture is placed after the application of tack coat in order to allow the oil in tack coat to evaporate. The purpose of the research is to find out the influence of curing time and water in coated layers on the shear strength of asphalt layer in terface. A specimen was made using MC- 250 as tack coat, curing time duration and water influence were variously set up.The shear strength on specimen interface was tested by direct shear using normal loading of 20 kg. Research result indicates that curing time duration of tack coat significantly influences the shear strength. If the application is done in the range of setting time of tack coat, the shear strength generated by tack coat in asphalt layer interface nearly reached the maximum value and the shear occurred among layers is small. For liquid asphalt MC-250,setting time occurred at the range of 45 – 120 minutes. Therefore,to reach optimum result the application should be performed at that range. The research result also shown that water gives negative influence on shear strength generated by tack coat. For 2; 1 and 0,5 hour tack coat cure, they were allowed dump by water for 2; 1,5 and 0,5 hours respectively.
