Abstract

The ability of problem solvingof mathematics is one of the learning objectives that are expected to be achieved by students. However, the problem solvingof mathematics of SMPN 2 Pantistudents is not as expected. An alternative solution is to implement the DiscoveryLearning model. The purpose of this research was to describe the differences in problem solvingof mathematics between the students who studied using the Discovery Learning model and those who studied using the conventional learning model of SMPN 2 Pantitowards mathematics. The type of research is quasi-experimental and descriptive, with a Randomized Control-Group Only design. Sampling was conducted by using simple random sampling technique, and VIII 3 as the experimental class and VIII 4 as the control class. The research instrument used a test to measure the ability to understand the mathematical problem solving in the form of essay. Based on the results of data analysis, problem solvingof mathematics of the students who took part in learning using the discovery learningmodel is better than the students who studied with conventional learning model. Abstract

This study is one of the innovations in the field of mathematics learning by utilizing the latest technology.  Coinciding with the COVID 19 pandemic, students and teachers need a mathematics tools that make it easier for them to access it with an android smartphone. This is the reason of Android-based mobile learning is designed. This research begins with analysing students and teacher needs, then analysing curriculum and concept. Then, designing mobile learning and doing self-evaluation. The next stage is an expert review to measure the validity of mobile learning. The next process is one-to-one evaluation and small group evaluation, that was carried out to measure the practicality of mobile learning. Abstract

Student math proficiency demands problem-solving skills. The 2023/2024 grade VIII problem-solving skills of SMP Negeri 10 Padang pupils are still below average. Insufficient learning model prevents skill acquisition. We recommend using Problem-Based Learning (PBL) to solve challenges. A Nonequivalent Posttest-Only Control Group Design pseudo-experiment was used. Using basic random sampling, class VIII.1 was the experimental group and VIII.3 was the control group. T-test results for hypothesis testing showed a P-value of 0.000, which is less than 0.05. H0 is rejected. So, class VIII.1 students who utilized the PBL approach solved mathematical problems better than class VIII.3 students who used the conventional way.Keywords – PBL, Mathematical Problem Solving Ability, Conventional Learning

Abstract

Mathematical concept understanding is one of the goals of mathematic learning must be owned by student. But learning activities is not optimal in facilitating student to improve mathematical concept understanding, so result of test show that mathematical concept understanding of student at SMPN 23 Padang are still low. One of effort to overcome this problem is to apply guided discovery model. The purpose of research is to describe development of mathematical concept understanding of student who learn by using guided discovery model and compare whether mathematical concept understanding of student who learn by using guided discovery model is more better than student who learn by using conventional learning. This type of research is quasy experiment with static group design. The result of research show that mathematical concept understanding of student who learn by using guided discovery model has improve. Then, based on the result of hypothesis test is got that mathematical concept understanding of student who learn by using guided discovery model is more better than student who learn by using conventional learning. So it can be concluded that guided discovery model give influence for mathematical concept understanding.Keywords – Guided Discovery Model, Mathematical Concept Understanding.

Abstract

One of the outcomes of learning mathematics that students must have is the capacity to comprehend mathematical concepts. However, class X MIPA students at SMA Negeri 1 Payakumbuh still have a poor understanding of mathematical principles. The goal of this study was to ascertain and evaluate whether students in class X MIPA SMA Negeri 1 Payakumbuh who were taught using the Knisley mathematics learning model had a greater understanding of mathematical topics than students who were taught using traditional methods. A quasi-experimental research design with a non-equivalent posttest only control group design was used in this study. Based on data analysis, it was found that students in class X MIPA at SMA Negeri 1 Payakumbuh who learned using the Knisley mathematics learning model were better able to understand mathematical ideas than students who studied conventionally. Keywords– Knisley, Mathematical Concepts Understanding

Abstract

The ability in mathematics that must be possessed includes skills in solving problems. Students in class VIII SMP Negeri 34 Padang still cannot achieve optimal mathematical problem solving skills. In order for this problem to be resolved, one effort that can be attempted is to apply the Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, and Extending (CORE) learning model. This study intends to compare the effectiveness of the CORE model and the direct learning model in maximizing mathematical problem solving abilities. This study used a quasi-experimental type and nonequivalent posttest only control group design. The research that will be examined has a population of class VIII SMP Negeri 34 Padang in the 2022/2023 academic year. The research sample was obtained through simple random sampling by drawing lots. The instrument used in the research is the final test of mathematical problem solving ability, which intends to test the research hypothesis. Based on the results of the hypothesis test with a significant level / α = 0.05, a P-value = 0.000 is obtained which is <0.05 so that H0 is rejected. This indicates that the mathematical problem solving abilities of students who learn by applying the CORE model are superior compared to those who learn by direct learning model. This finding shows that students who use the CORE learning model have superior abilities in solving mathematical problems compared to students who use the direct learning model. Keywords – Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, and Extending (CORE) Learning Models, Mathematical Problem Solving Ability, Direct Learning Models.

Abstract

Understanding of  mathematical concepts  is  one  of  the  learning  objectives and  basic  skills  that  must  be  develoved optimally. One of factors that cause  this  learning  is  not  centered on students. Efforts to improve students’s understanding of mathematical concepts is using cooperative learning model the power of two. Type of research  is  quasi experimental  with   static   group   design.   Purpose  of  research   is   to   know   whether   students’s understanding of mathematical concepts who use cooperative learning model the power of two is better than conventional learning  is class VIII of SMPN 4  Padang.  Result  of research show that  indicate that  students’s understanding mathematical concepts who use cooperative learning model the power of two is better than conventional learning is class VIII of SMPN 4 Padang. Keyword – cooperative learning model the power of two, conventional learning, understanding of mathematical concepts, conventional learning.

Abstract

Problem solving ability is an ability that must be possessed by students in mathematics lessons. However in reality, students' mathematical problem solving abilities are still relatively low. To overcome this problem, the learning process can use Discovery Learning. This study aims to examine theoretically how the Discovery Learning model can improve students' mathematical problem solving abilities. The research was literature study methods and the sourced from secondary sources. This research was conducted by collecting and analyzing sources to obtain ideas about Discovery Learning and students' mathematical problem solving abilities. Based on the study conducted, it was found that theoretically the Discovery Learning learning model can improve students' mathematical problem solving abilities. The application of the learning stages of Discovery Learning can support student learning activities so that it can help improve students' mathematical problem solving abilities which can be seen from the achievement of mathematical problem solving indicators. Keywords –Discovery Learning, Mathematical problem solving ability

Abstract

Mathematical communication ability is one of the purpose in mathematics learning. Every students must have a good mathematical communication ability. But infact, mathematical communication ability of students at second grade SMPN 3 Pariaman  is not optimal. It is caused by learning model that used has not facilitated students to develop their mathematical communication ability. One effort to overcome this problem is by applying Think Talk Write of Cooperative Learning in mathematics learning. This learning model helps students to develop their mathematical communication ability. The type of research is a quasi-experimental design with Static Group Design. The research hypothesis is carried out by using the t-test. Based on the results of data analysis, it was concluded that mathematical communication ability of students who learn with the cooperative learning model of Think Talk Write type are better than the mathematical communication ability of students who learn by direct learning.   Keywords – Mathematical Communication Ability, ThinkxTalk Write, Direct Learning

Abstract

Abstract –  This research aims to produce teaching materials in the form of a modules bassed on a contextual approach that is valid and practical. This research refers to in this study is the plomp model which consists of three stage. They are the preliminary research, prototype-ing stage and assessment phase. The preliminary research was data collection for designing modules. The stage of prototyping aims to develop modules in order to produce the modules valid and practical through the stages formative evaluation. The formative evaluations are self evaluation, expert review, on to one evaluaotion, and small grup. The instruments used in this development are student questionnaire, interview guide, observation sheet, checklist, validation sheet, and practicality sheet. The instrument, before use must be validated by the validator. This result of analysis of the data form the modules based on contextual approach developed are valid in terms of aspects of content eligibility, aspect of the language, aspects of the presentation, and aspects of the graphic with validation value is 89,79%.  The modules based on contextual approach that is developed have also been practical in terms of aspect of ease of use, aspect of attractiveness, and aspect of the benefit with practical value is 90,897% from students and 95,56% from teacher. The dependent on these outcomes it very well may be presumed that modules can be utilized in the mathemaetic learning at the class. Keywords – Modules, Contextual approach, linear programming
