Frontiers in Community Service and Empowerment (FiCSE) publishes peer-reviewed, community services activities articles in an open-access format. Accepted articles span the full extent of the Engineering, Social, Science, Health and Education. FiCSE seeks to be the world’s premier open-access outlet for community services papers. As such, unlike traditional journals, FiCSEdoes not limit content due to page budgets or thematic significance. Rather, FiCSE evaluates the scientific and implementation methods of each article for validity and accepts articles solely on the basis of the research. Likewise, by not restricting papers to a narrow discipline, FiCSE facilitates the discovery of the connections between papers, whether within or between disciplines.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease that leads to an increase in blood glucose levels, which in turn can lead to chronic diseases. The potential group to be socialized is the Prolanis group at Sreseh Health Centre, Sampang Madura. Moringa is a tree that grows very commonly in the Madura region, including in Sreseh sub-district. Moringa contains active ingredients that can lower blood glucose levels. People do not avail of the benefits of Moringa leaves  (Moringa aleivera), which are widely available in the region. The purpose of this community service activity is so that the community can be more optimal in controlling blood sugar levels, especially the use of Moringa leaf extract in lowering blood sugar levels. The method of conducting the activities is a group-based method that is carried out comprehensively, namely conducting regular and continuous counselling and consultations for Prolanis members. The activities of the community service teams are carried out in a measurable way and a monitoring and evaluation process is carried out to measure the achievement of the objectives and results. The results of the PKM activities have been identified: Community service activities (PKM) that have been well implemented, starting with survey and coordination activities, initial assessment activities, PKM implementation activities, and evaluation of the results achieved. The community, in this case, the Prolanis members with DM type 2, participated with great enthusiasm in each meeting/phase of the activities. The evaluation of the results of the activities showed good results: The number of subjects with type 2 diabetes whose blood glucose levels were uncontrolled decreased by 61.54%.

Abstract

The increasing number of companies and the number of batik productions in the Ngawi region is directly proportional to the amount of wastewater produced and thus poses a burden on the environment as the overflow of wastewater is absorbed from the production process. The results of the laboratory analyses showed that the values for TSS, color, COD, BOD, total ammonia, oil, and grease exceeded the quality standards. Prevention of pollution from wastewater is done through community empowerment. Community empowerment aims to realize the development of Appropriate Technology for Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP) and the prevention of Wastewater Pollution to the Environment Around Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM) Griya Batik Widi Nugraha, Ngawi Regency. The benefit of community empowerment is to provide experience for other Batik Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) development programs. Community empowerment at UKM Griya Batik Widi Nugraha Ngawi uses methods of document collection, site surveys, preparation of processing systems, training, and demonstrations. The target group of community empowerment activities at Griya Batik Widi Nugraha Ngawi are the owner of Griya Batik Widi Nugraha Ngawi, batik workers at Griya Batik Widi Nugraha Ngaw, workers in the dyeing and washing process, administrators of Ngawi Batik Association and construction workers. Results of Community Empowerment of UKM Griya Batik Widi Nugraha Workers and Surroundings Together with the academic community of Poltekkes Kemenkes Surabaya, appropriate technology was built for a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) with a capacity of 1,464.5 liters per day, which is still safe for UKM Griya Batik Widi Nugraha Ngawi Regency. The stages of wastewater treatment are pre-treatment, secondary treatment, tertiary treatment, and storage of the final product. The results of the functional tests based on effluent samples from the final treatment showed that the treatment plant was able to reduce the levels of TSS, color, COD, BOD, total ammonia, oil, and grease that exceeded the quality standard to meet the quality requirements as per the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. P.16/MENLAHK /SETJEN/KUM.1/2019. These results provide benefits for UKM Griya Batik Widi Nugraha to prevent pollution and can use treated water as a source of fish pond water and watering the garden. It is recommended that community empowerment can be continued by other SMEs that have the potential to dispose of wastewater from production activities and pollute the environment through the use of appropriate technology (TTG) research results by lecturers or students so that they do not stop as intakes.

Abstract

In 2019, the government has taken policies as an effort to optimally handle the Covid-19 storm so that it does not spread widely. The pattern of transmission of the Covid-19 virus can be through the air and can be transmitted if health protocols are not carried out properly. The level of incidence of Covid-19 has become a major problem for all communities in various regions in Indonesia, including in the Parigi area of Parigi Moutong Regency. In the last week, it was discovered that a new variant of Covid-19, the "Omicron" type, has been endemic in various regions. The preliminary observations show that 75% of the public do not understand the ways and benefits of consistently implementing the Covid-19 health protocol, and 62% do not understand the risks faced if they are not disciplined with the Covid-19 health protocol. To anticipate the rate of spread of the Covid-19 virus, it is important to educate the public regarding health protocols. This activity has been carried out from June 12 to 18, 2021, using the Focus Group Discussion Method (FGD). The target is 5 health cadres and 75 people. This activity was carried out in Salabia Village, Tinombo District, Parigi Moutong Regency. This education regarding the implementation of the Covid-19 health protocol was enthusiastically welcomed by the public and health cadres. This activity is carried out to ensure that the public and health cadres are broad-minded so that they can independently implement the COVID-19 health protocol correctly with discipline and consistency.

Abstract

Activities related to increasing the caregiver's ability to care for the elderly who experience daily problems related to psychological approaches and the like have never been carried out. Caregiver communication does not support effective communication and is still social communication. Supported by the results of research conducted at the Nursing Home for the Elderly, it showed that there was a difference between pre and post-test in the group that received guidance or counseling treatment on the happiness of the elderly with a significant value. The purpose of this training is to empower elderly caregivers at Nursing Home at St. Yosef, Surabaya, and identify the effectiveness of the guidance model (Guidance) by caregivers. The number of participants is 50 people. The method used is cadre training through discussions, demonstrations, competence training and competence assessment. The result of training for caregivers is an increase in knowledge based on pre-test and post-test scores. There was an increase in skills seen in four skills, namely communication in the elderly, active movement, passive movement, mobilization, and daily activity training. The advantage of this cadre training is that it can effectively improve communication with the elderly people who are cared for in the orphanage. The implication of this activity is to increase the knowledge and skills of caregivers in providing care for the elderly through effective communication with the elderly in nursing homes as an effort to improve the health of the elderly.

Abstract

The Malang regency district has the fourth-highest smoking prevalence rate among those over 10 years old, at 30%. 23.91% of the population aged 10 to 18 are active smokers who smoke daily. The number of passive smokers or people exposed to cigarette smoke is estimated to be higher than the number of smokers because when active smokers smoke, they also interact with non-smokers. Residents of Rukun Warga 03 Dampit village who suffer from hypertension and smoke are believed to have an impact on the incidence of heart disease and stroke, characterized by changes in the configuration of the ECG signal and signs of stroke. The purpose of this community service is to get an overview of the residents of RW.03 Dampit Village who have the potential to get heart diseases and strokes. The methodology used in conducting the community service under the community partnership program (PKM) is a pre-experimental single case study, i.e. the results of studying cardiac records of partners with a target of 50 residents in the RT environment. 007 RW. 03. The results of the community service activities showed that most (59%) reported ST elevation (ischemia) and 30% reported ST depression, the remaining 16% reported T elevation, and another 16% reported T depression. The results of his ECG recording showed evidence of M-shape, ST elevation, and ST depression (arrhythmia and ischemia). Meanwhile, all VES (ventricular extrasystoles) indicated are female. The conclusion from this community service is that there are more people who have the potential to get heart disease and stroke than active smokers. The benefits to the community are to know the condition of the residents of RW.03 Dampit Village who are potentially affected by heart disease and strokes and to improve residents' knowledge of the dangers of smoking for both active and passive smokers, the importance of eating healthy foods, and routine of exercise.
