Frontiers in Community Service and Empowerment (FiCSE) publishes peer-reviewed, community services activities articles in an open-access format. Accepted articles span the full extent of the Engineering, Social, Science, Health and Education. FiCSE seeks to be the world’s premier open-access outlet for community services papers. As such, unlike traditional journals, FiCSEdoes not limit content due to page budgets or thematic significance. Rather, FiCSE evaluates the scientific and implementation methods of each article for validity and accepts articles solely on the basis of the research. Likewise, by not restricting papers to a narrow discipline, FiCSE facilitates the discovery of the connections between papers, whether within or between disciplines.

Abstract

Introduction: Nutrition during pregnancy plays an important role in maternal health and fetal development. Lack of protein energy (KEP) in pregnant women can lead to a variety of health complications, including low birth weight (BBLR) and premature birth. This community service aims to provide health counseling on the effectiveness of education about breastfeeding in pregnant women. Methods: Data were collected using a descriptive approach with data obtained from two main sources: frequency distribution of demographic characteristics of extension participants (age and education level) and the results of breastfeeding education evaluation. A total of 50 mothers consisting of health cadres and pregnant women participated in counseling and evaluation activities. Results: The results showed that the majority of participants were aged 20 to 40 years (60%) with a high school level of education (48%). All participants (100%) felt that breastfeeding education activities were useful and needed to be provided continuously. Discussion: Breastfeeding counseling and education activities were considered positive by the participants and to increase the effectiveness of teaching methods so that the understanding of breastfeeding material can be more optimal, a further education program with a more interactive and personalized approach is needed for a better understanding among pregnant women, especially related to the importance of breastfeeding and correct breastfeeding techniques.

Abstract

Stunting is a serious health problem in Indonesia, especially in rural areas with limited access to health services. Wonoayu Village, Sidoarjo, is one of the areas that still faces challenges in early detection of stunting in children under five. To overcome this problem, the Partner Village Development Program (PPDM) was implemented with the aim of utilizing telemedicine technology through the Pelita application. This application is designed to help Posyandu cadres detect the risk of stunting quickly and accurately, as well as provide more effective health monitoring services. The main contributions of this program include developing the Pelita application, outreach to the community and health workers, providing tablet assistance to support application operations, as well as implementing the application in Posyandu activities. The results of this program show an increase in the capacity of Posyandu cadres in monitoring children's health, easy access to accurate health data, and faster and more efficient early detection of stunting. In conclusion, the implementation of the telemedicine system through the Pelita application has had a positive impact in overcoming the stunting problem in Wonoayu Village. This application facilitates structured monitoring of children's health, enabling early intervention for children at risk of stunting. The implication of this program is the need for continuous maintenance and development so that the application can continue to be used optimally and become a model for other regions in efforts to reduce stunting rates in Indonesia.

Abstract

The community service program conducted by Poltekkes Kemenkes Surabaya aimed to address the problems associated with equipment maintenance at the Randegansari Husada Hospital, focusing on its centrifuge equipment in the laboratory. The program included counseling and provided practical assistance to the hospital staff, preparing them with the knowledge and skills for the proper maintenance of equipment. Activities covered recording the specification data of the centrifuge units, damage detection, performance improvement using a preventive maintenance program, and performance testing using a digital tachometer. The calibration process also proved a centrifuge relative error of 1.37% at 3000 RPM within the acceptable error limit of 10%. Verification in time, at 300 seconds, resulted in a relative error of 4.89%, also within acceptable limits. Such efforts go a step further to ensure that the centrifuge works well in contributing toward better diagnostic accuracies. The program took a portion of this staffing challenge when it embarked on the training of a medical laboratory technician, insisting that improved and sustained equipment reliability meant improved health service delivery. These would then increase at the hospital to limit malfunctioning of equipment for overall quality care
