Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of ESG score and its pillars (environmental, social, and governance score), as a proxy of sustainable companies, on working capital requirements (WCR) and cash conversion cycle (CCC) of Indonesian listing companies for the period 2015-2020. The ESG and pillar scores are obtained from the Thomson Reuters Refinitiv Eikon terminal. The research covers 29 non-financial listed companies in Indonesia in the six years with a total of 174 observations through the purposive sampling technique. This study finds that on average non-financial companies in Indonesia use a conservative working capital strategy which makes the company's working capital too large. Based on balance panel data and the robust OLS method, the result shows that ESG and its pillars can be a determinant in working capital. ESG, environmental pillars, and social pillars scores can reduce working capital requirements and shorten cash conversion cycles. Meanwhile, the governance pillar score does not affect working capital. Hence, ESG, environmental pillars, and social pillars can encourage companies to have lower working capital requirements and shorter cash conversion cycles so that companies with high ESG performance tend to use aggressive working capital strategies and turn the business operates more efficiently. Thus, ESG can lead to resource advantage and be a signal of company efficiency.

Abstract

Researchers conducted research on banks in Indonesia to assess the effect of credit risk, liquidity risk, and operational risk on banking financial performance. Data is obtained from the IDX website and banks from 38 conventional commercial banks that met the criteria for the 2016-2020 period. Researchers used the fixed-effect model (FEM) to analyze the results of this study. The results of this study indicate that credit and operational risks have a significant effect on the company's financial performance. On the other hand, liquidity risk has an insignificant effect on the company's financial performance. The results can be used by the company's management team as a reference in making decisions related to risk management, especially credit risk, liquidity risk, and operational risk in banking. After studying this research, it is hoped that the management team will have an overview of the effects of these risks on banking financial performance. Abstract

The obligation of graduate students, including Master of Management (MM) students, to publish in academic journal need to be approached wisely. Thus far, research conducted by MM students for their theses has been perceived as lacking practical contribution. This issue is also felt in business and management research in general. However, MM students are expected, in fact, to become profesionals who can offer solution to real problems faced by their organizations. The design science method could be an alternative for MM students to conduct research that is both close to practical application and still offers theoretical contribution. This article aims to introduce the design science method in research. Started with a debate in academic research, the article then explains the position of design science in the existing polarization of research approaches. The article then details what and how to conduct design science research. Finally, the article presents a guideline in conducting design science research.
