Abstract

Abstract:This study aims to find out whether there is an interactive effect between learning interest and self-discipline on English learning achievement of student in State Junior High School in Bekasi city. To determine whether there is an effect of learning interest on English learning achievement of student in State Junior High School in Bekasi city. To determine whether there is an effect of self-discipline on English learning achievement of student in State Junior High School in Bekasi city. The research hypothesis tested includes: 1) There is a significant interactive effect between learning interest and self-discipline on the achievement of learning English. 2) There is a significant effect of learning interest on learning achievement in English. 3) There is a significant effect of self-discipline on the achievement of learning English. The study was conducted by survey method. In this study the population was secondary school students of State Junior High School in Bekasi city and 77 students was selected out of the entire population. The data were analyzed statistically using linier regression analyses. The result showed that: 1) There is a significant interactive effect between learning interest and self- discipline on English learning achievement of student in State Junior High School in Bekasi city 2) There is a significant effect of learning interest on English learning achievement of student in State Junior High School in Bekasi city. 3) There is a significant effect of self- discipline on English learning achievement of student in State Junior High School in Bekasi cityKeyword: learning interest, self-discipline, English learning achievement Abstrak:Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh minat belajar dan disiplin diri secara bersama-sama terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris siswa SMP Negeri di Bekasi. Untuk mengetahui pengaruh minat belajar terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris siswa SMP Negeri di Bekasi. Untuk mengetahui pengaruh disiplin diri terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris siswa SMP Negeri di Bekasi. Hipotesis penelitian yang di uji meliputi: 1) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan minat belajar dan disiplin diri secara bersama-sama terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris. 2) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan minat belajar terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris. 3) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan disiplin diri terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode survei. Populasi adalah siswa-siswa kelas VIII SMP negeri di kota Bekasi dengan besar sampel 77 siswa. Dengan pengujian menggunakan teknik regresi ganda. Hasil pengujian hipotesis diperoleh kesimpulan sebagai berikut: 1) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan minat belajar dan disiplin diri secara bersama-sama terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris siswa SMPN kota Bekasi. 2) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan minat belajar terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris siswa SMPN kota Bekasi. 3) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan disiplin diri terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris siswa SMPN kota Bekasi.Kata kunci: minat belajar, disiplin diri, prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris

Abstract

Abstract: The title of this thesis is “Gender Inequality and Moral Value in “Wonder Woman” by Patty Jenkins”. The study was conducted in August 2019. The objective of  this research paper was to found out the gender inequality and moral value of this movie. The research method was the qualitative. The instrument of this research were covered the list of the question designed based on the elements of the movie. The data was collected by watching the movie and reading the script movie,  identifying, classifying, and analyzing based on gender inequality and moral value. 1). The result of this research showed the Gender Inequality has highest percentage of the Gender Equality. The draw of Gender conclusion that the Gender Inequality is 33,45% and Gender Equality is 21,00%. 2). The moral value are justice 17,41%, honesty 33,45%, bravery 17,10%, responsibility 30,89%, and beneficence 31,11%. The beneficial input of analyzing the movie is that movie can be used as the advice for teacher of English can make students have positive character. Keywords: Gender Inequality; Moral Value; Movie

Abstract

The study aims to determine: 1) The effect of instructional media and vocabulary mastery towards English speaking ability. 2) The effect of Vocabulary mastery towards English speaking ability. 3) The effect of instructional media on English speaking ability. The affordable population is class X of Uswatun Hasanah Private Vocational School, Mardi Bhakti Private Vocational School, East Jakarta. The sample of this research is 70 respondents in this study. The method used is an experiment. Inference analyses used are ANOVA two-way factorial 2x2. The results of this study show:1) There is no significant effect on instructional media and vocabulary mastery towards English speaking ability. This result is evidenced by the acquisition of sig.0,258 > 0,05 and F observe 1,305. 2) There is a significant effect on vocabulary mastery towards English speaking ability. This result is evidenced by the acquisition of sig.0,0,012< 0,05 and F observe 6,741. 3) There is a significant effect on instructional media towards English speaking ability. This result is evidenced by the acquisition of sig.0,000 < 0,05 and F observe 85,435.Key Words: instructional media; game; vocabulary mastery; speaking skill

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know about Language Register that being used in the Victorian Era. 1) How Industrial Revolution effects on the language choices in a Victorian Era, 2) What the expressions of Register Language are used in the Victorian Era, and 3) How Language Register cannot be separated from the use of language styles. The design of this research is a qualitative descriptive study with content analysis to find out about the context, purposes, and content messages of utterances in the communication. Analyzing and making inferences about the utterances producers as the addressors and the audience as the addressee of the text. It has found problems in society during Victorian era, especially to harsh conditions of orphans and children during the Industrial revolution which is the main focus. 1) Realism projected in realistic characters and setting, comprehensive detail about everyday occurrences, plausible plot, dialects of community, character development, and the importance in depicting social class. These elements are the background for choosing words, choosing language in all utterances between speakers, each character. Representing the use of language in the Victorian Era. 2). Many register languages are used, there are types of Register variation expressions used, the choice of lexical in a conversation sentence that refers to the context of the situation, the context of addressee and addressors, also the typical language variation used in the Victorian era. In the context of the situation, the register also influenced of choosing the right sequence of sentences intended by the interlocutor, in a particular situation. 3). There are variety of language in utterances where style is widely used. Utterances in daily context of living in the Victorian Era occurring in every conversation between speakers. This research is expected to be useful in obtaining information about Register Language and the advantages for English second Language learner and Learning English for special purposes. Broaden vocabulary and sentences of a Register Language can affect the ability of communication skill especially speaking skill.

Abstract

This research aims to get information and test the hypothesis of the effects of learning media and vocabulary mastery towards the descriptive writing skill at state junior high school in Serang. The research hypothesis is 1) there is no effect of learning media on the descriptive writing skill at state junior high school in Serang. 2) there is any effect of vocabulary mastery towards the descriptive writing skill at state junior high school in Serang. 3) There are any interactive effects of learning media and vocabulary mastery towards the students’ descriptive writing skills. This research method uses an experiment with a 2 x 2 factorial design. Using a random sampling technique, the interpretation sample established 60 students of two classes in grade 8 at state junior high school in Serang by giving 40 items for vocabulary items and one item for writing text. The results conclude that first, there are learning media effects towards descriptive writing skills at state junior high school in Serang. It is proved the analysis of data obtained Fo = 5,975, and Sig = 0,018<0,05. Second, Vocabulary Mastery has effects on the descriptive writing skill at state junior high school in Serang. It is proved the analysis of data obtained Fo = 7,955. and Sig = 0,007<0.05. Third, there are interactive effects of learning media and vocabulary mastery towards the students’ descriptive writing skills. It is based on the analysis of interaction data Fo = 12,763, and Sig = 0,001< 0,05. This research concluded that writing descriptive text skills could be achieved by increasing vocabulary mastery and using learning media.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of perceptions of school environment and discipline jointly towards English learning achievement, the effect of perceptions of school environment towards English learning achievement, the effect of discipline towards English learning achievement at Private Vocational High Schools in Kabupaten Tangerang. The research method used in this study is the survey method. Sample of 47 students was selected randomly from all private vocational students in Kabupaten Tangerang. Based on data analysis, it can be concluded that: 1) The results of the first hypothesis testing concluded that there was a significant effect of perception of school environment and discipline jointly towards English learning achievement at private vocational high schools in Kabupaten Tangerang. This is proved by the value of sig. 0,000 <0.05 and Fh = 35,702. 2) The results of the second hypothesis testing concluded that there was a significant effect of perceptions of  school environment towards English learning achievement at private vocational high school in Kabupaten Tangerang. This is proved by the value of Sig. 0,000 <0.05 and th = 5,750. 3) The results of the third hypothesis testing concluded there was a significant effect of discipline towards English learning achievement at private vocational high schools in Kabupaten Tangerang. This is proved by the value of Sig. 0,000 <0.05 and th = 4,901.

Abstract

This research aims to know the effect of the CIRC technique and learning motivation on reading comprehension skills at State Senior High School in Pandeglang Regency. The research method which is conducted is an experimental study with two-way ANOVA. The samples were 30 students of SMAN 6 and 30 students of SMAN 8 taken by cluster. The technique of collecting data on each variable was acquired from the test. The data was analyzed by using a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA 2x2). The research results show no interactive effects of teaching technique and learning motivation toward reading comprehension skill State Senior High School in Pandeglang Regency with the value of sig 0.01<0.05 and F0 =5.872.Keywords: teaching technique, learning motivation, and reading comprehension skill

Abstract

The research objective is to analyze the use of Simple Present Tense and Adjectives on students' Descriptive Writing at Private Vocational School in Bogor. The method used in this study is Descriptive text analysis using qualitative data. The procedures are conducted by choosing the text from students' Descriptive writing, analyzing data, interpreting data, and concluding the result of the study. The result shows that 1) there are common errors produced using simple present tense in descriptive writing. The total error is 239 errors which the highest frequency is misformation error which consists of 128 errors or 54%. 2) the total error of using Adjectives in Descriptive writing is 25 errors, and the highest frequency of error is misformation which consists of 17 errors or 68%. The findings in this research are for students' analysis of using Simple Present Tense and Adjectives on Descriptive writing. It occurs because of some reasons they are affected by both Interlingual and Intralingual Error.Keywords: simple present tense; adjectives; descriptive writing

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui Pengaruh Metode Pembelajaran terhadap kemampuan menulis paragraf Recount Bahasa Inggris pada siswa SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Karawang. Metode Penelitian yang digunakan metode eksperimen dengan menerapkan metode pembelajaran  kooperatif tipe Jigsaw dan TPS, Penelitian ini menggunakan tes essai dan quisioner untuk mencari nilai, minat belajar tinggi dan rendah. Subjek penelitian dibagi atas dua kelompok yakni kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol dengan populasi seluruh siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Telagasari dan SMA Negeri 1 Majalaya, sampel kelas XI IPA 1 SMA Negeri 1 Telagasari sebagai kelas eksperimen dan XI IPA 1 SMA Negeri 1 Majalaya sebagai Kelas Kontrol. Penelitian ini menggunakan model penelitian ANOVA. Dari hasil pengolahan data test didapatkan kesimpulan: 1). Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan metode pembelajaran terhadap kemampuan menulis paragraf recount bahasa Inggris siswa SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Karawang, hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan nilai Sig: 0,002 < 0,05 dan  Fhitung: 10,795, 2). Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan Minat Belajar terhadap kemampuan menulis paragraf recount bahasa Inggris siswa SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Karawang, hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan nilai Sig: 0,000 < 0,05 dan Fhitung: 60,626, 3). Terdapat pengaruh interaktif yang signifikan metode pembelajaran dan Minat Belajar terhadap kemampuan menulis paragraf recount bahasa Inggris siswa SMA Negeri di Kabupaten Karawang, hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan nilai Sig: 0,013 < 0,05 dan Fhitung : 6,581. Sebagai dampak dari adanya pengaruh interaktif antara Metode pembelajaran dan Minat belajar terhadap kemampuan menulis paragraf recount bahasa Inggris  maka dilakukan uji lanjut dengan menggunakan uji Tukey.

Abstract

The aim of the research to find and classify types of Idiomatic Expressions and Phrase Expressions in “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul” Film by David Bowers. In this research the researcher used qualitative approach, like analyze descriptive narration, a dialog or conversation. Meanwhile, for technique data research by content analysis research. The researcher used Lim’s theory to classify idiomatic expressions. In Lim’s theory there are 6 types of idioms, such as: idioms with phrasal verb, idioms with prepositional phrase, idioms with verbs as keyword, idioms with nouns as keyword, idioms with adjective as keyword, and idiomatic pairs. The result of this research showed that the film used 60 idiom expressions to express their feeling and thought. The researcher found 21 Phrasal Verbs, 19 Verb as Keywords, 8 Adjective as Keywords, 6 Noun as Keywords, 3 Prepositional Phrases and 3 Idiomatic pairs. The researcher used Ba’dulu’s theory to examine phrase expressions. In Ba’dulu’s theory there are 5 types of phrase, such as: noun phrase, verb phrase, prepositional phrase, adjective phrase, and adverb phrase. The result of this research showed that the film used 157 phrases. The researcher found 56 Noun Phrases, 48 Verb Phrases, 23 Prepositional Phrases, 18 Verb Phrases and 12 Adverb Phrases.
