Abstract

The aims of the research are to find out the type, function and reason of code switching and code mixing mostly used by Indofood and Unilever Food Advertisements on Television. The research design of this research is descriptive qualitative because the result of the data analyzed is in descriptive phenomenon such as words, sentence and utterance while the research method used in this research is library research. The result findings are: 1). The type of code switching mostly used here is intra sentential switching which occurs 36 times. While the type of code mixing mostly used here is intra sentential mixing which occurs 38 times. 2). The function of code switching and code mixing mostly used here is metalinguistic function which occurs 60 times. 3). The reason of code switching and code mixing mostly used here is talking about particular topic which occurs 48 times.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to find out the character and the moral values in the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. This research is designed as qualitative research. The approach that the writer uses is qualitative. The data are collected by analyzing the data found in the novel. The analysis of the novel is undertaken on the dialogues. The result of the research is the form of character and moral values. 1) The character that emerges in the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” is the protagonist, antagonist, and foil characters. The protagonist is 70 %, the antagonist is 18 %, and the foil character is 12 %. It means that the character who dominates in the novel is the protagonist. This novel's point is to lead the readers to appreciate others 2) There are seven moral values in the novel: respect, kindness, conscience, self-control, empathy, tolerance, and fairness. The moral value in the novel, respect gets 28 %, kindness is 10 %, conscience is 15%, self-control is 5 %, empathy is 15%, tolerance is 13%, and fairness is 15%. It means that moral values that dominate in the novel convey particularly to the readers is respect.

Abstract

This research aims to understand: 1) The effect of self-concept and learning motivation in English narrative listening skills, 2) self-concept towards English reading, 3) The effect of learning motivation towards English narrative listening skills. The method used in this research is a survey using correlational and regression analysis techniques. The population in this research was 1015 students. The sample in this research was 100 students. The study results conclude that: 1) There was a significant effect of self-concept and learning motivation towards English narrative listening skills. Sig can prove that 0,000 <0.05 and Fcount = 20.325. 2) There was a significant effect of self-concept towards English narrative listening skills. The Sig proves that 0.002 <0.05 and tcount = 3.246. 3) There was a significant effect of learning motivation towards English narrative listening skills. Abstract

Abstract:The Effect of Student Perception on Learning Styles and Intellectual Intelligence towards English Learning Achievement. This study aims to determine the effect of student perception on learning styles and intellectual intelligence towards English learning achievement. This research used survey method with correlation and multiple regression technique, the population of senior high school in Serang, the writer has taken 3 schools there are SMAN 1 Serang, SMAN 2 Serang, SMAN 3 Serang, and used proportional random sampling technique. The sample of 92 respondent. Multiple correlation and regression technique used for data analysis using SPSS application program. The results of research that there are effects between students perception on learning styles and intellectual intelligence towards English learning achievement. Keywords: perceptions, learning style, intellectual intelligence, English learning achievement Abstrak:Pengaruh persepsi peserta didik atas gaya belajar dan kecerdasan intelektual terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh persepsi peserta didik atas gaya belajar dan kecerdasan intelektual terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survey dengan teknik korelasi dan regresi ganda, dengan populasi SMA Negeri di Kota Serang, yang di ambil 3 sekolah yaitu SMAN 1 Kota Serang, SMAN 2 Kota Serang, SMAN 3 Kota Serang, dan melalui teknik sampling acak proposional diperoleh sampel sebesar 92 orang. Teknik korelasi dan regresi ganda digunakan untuk analisis data dengan menggunakan program aplikasi SPSS. Hasil Penelitian membuktikan bahwa persepsi peserta didik atas gaya belajar dan kecerdasan intelektual berpengaruh terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris. Kata kunci: persepsi, gaya belajar, kecerdasan intelektual, prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to know the Effects of vocabulary and Learning Motivation on students’ writing skills in Narrative text. The population is 150 students. The sample is 84 students. The method is the survey method. Data collecting is taken through a test that consists of a multiplechoice test, questioner, and writing test. The research shows that: 1) there are significant effects of vocabulary mastery and Learning Motivation on students’ writing skills in narrative text. That is proved by Sig value 0,000 < 0,05 and Fo = 10,640; 2) there is a significant effect of vocabulary mastery towards students’ writing skills in narrative text. That is proved by Sig value 0,004 < 0,05 and to = 2,930. 3). There is a significant effect of Learning Motivation on students’ writing skills innarrative text. That is proved by Sig value 0,009< 0,05 and to = 2,678.Keywords: vocabulary mastery; learning motivation; writing skill; narrative text.

Abstract

This research aims to know, analyze and examine the truth of the hypothesis on the effects of vocabulary and grammar mastery towards the skill of students of state senior high schools in Tangerang Regency, Banten Province, in writing English descriptive texts. The research employed a survey method. The results of the research are: (1) There are significant effects of vocabulary and grammar mastery collectively towards the skill of students of state senior high schools in Tangerang Regency, Banten Province in writing English descriptive texts. It is proved by Sig. 0.000 < 0.05 and Fobserved160.498. (2) There is a significant effect of vocabulary mastery partially towards the skill of students of state senior high schools in Tangerang Regency, Banten Province, in writing English descriptive texts. It is proved by Sig. 0.000 < 0.05 and t observed 5.396. 3) There is a significant effect of grammar mastery partially towards the skill of students of state senior high schools in Tangerang Regency, Banten Province, in writing English descriptive texts. It is proved by Sig. 0.000 < 0.05 and t observed 9.241. This current research results show that the students’ skills in writing English descriptive texts are strongly influenced by their vocabulary and grammar mastery. Therefore, teachers of the state senior high schools should be active in improving the students’ vocabulary and grammar mastery through creating guided learning and up-to-date learning methods. The teachers also need to give the students motivation, assistance dan periodical review to continuously practice enriching their vocabulary, improving their grammar and skill in writing English descriptive texts. Key Words: descriptive text; foreign language writing; vocabulary mastery; grammar mastery.

Abstract

The social, political, and economy atmosphere of a country often evokes the desire of literary activists to express their imagination, feelings, ideology in the form of social, political and cultural criticism through art, including poetry. Likewise, Jacob Isaac, a Bachelor and Master of Arts, as well as Doctor of English Literature, who was born in Kerala, South India, expresses imagination, feelings, ideology by creating the English poetry. In this research, the research writer chose three poetry written by Jacob Isaac as data sources entitled Indifference, Neural Mapping, Aging Liberty. The objective of this research is to describe the meaning of (1) survival in the above poetry; and (2) its implementation in English semantics learning. The research writer uses a qualitative research method and triadic semiotic model of Charles Sanders Peirce, consists of (1) representamen consists of rhyme form and sound, syntactic, semantic, pragmatic relates to deixis, figurative and isotopy aspects); (2) interpretant consists of the biography of Jacob Isaac, history of India, social, political and cultural background aspects). The goal using interpretant is in order to get the research results more objective. This research was conducted from March to May 2021.

Abstract

Abstract: This research is a kind of survey and aims to determine the effects of simple past tense and vocabulary mastery towards students' writing skills in recount text at SMPN Lebak Regency. The 67 samples were gained through the cluster, proportional, and random sampling. The gained data were then analyzed by using the multiple regressions method. These research results are: 1) There are any significant effects of simple past tense and vocabulary mastery jointly towards students' writing skills in recount text. It is proved by Sig.= 0.000 < 0.05 and Fobserved = 24.561; 2) There is a significant effect of simple past tense mastery towards students' writing skills in recount text. It is proved by Sig.= 0.000 < 0.05 and tobserved = 3.764; 3) There is a significant effect of vocabulary mastery towards students' writing skills in recount text. Abstract

The objective of this research is to find, to describe and to interpret the use of past verbs and conjunctions in recount texts, written by students of senior high school in Jakarta. The population in this research was the students of grade X at those two schools, meanwhile, the number of the population consists of 1400 students. Thus, the sample of the research was 10% from the population from which 140 students was taken. The method used in this recount texts. The result of this research is: first, Students’ mastery in using past verbs in writing recount texts is quite good; even though, there were some mistakes such as generalization; for instance, adding -ed ending for irregular verbs and using past verbs after prepositions; second, students’ mastery in using conjunctions was good and students could apply them in their writing correctly.Keywords: simple past tense; conjunction; recount text; foreign language writing

Abstract

Abstract: This experimental study aims to determine the effects of teaching media and learning interest on students' writing skills in recount text. The sample of the research is 80 respondents. The technique of collecting data of each variable was acquired from the test. The data were analyzed using a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA 2x2). The research shows that: 1) there is a significant effect of teaching media towards students writing skills in recount text at State Senior High School in Pandeglang Regency. It is proved by the value Sig 0,000 < 0,05 and Fo = 87,444; 2) there is a significant effect of learning interest towards students writing skill in recount text at State Senior High School in Pandeglang Regency. It is proved by the value Sig 0, 000 < 0,05 and Fo = 46,751; 3) there are no significant interactive effects of teaching media and learning interest towards students' writing skills in recount text at state senior high school in Pandeglang Regency. It is proved by the value Sig 0,05 or 0,380 > 0,05 and Fo = 0,778.Keywords: teaching media, learning interest, writing skills, recount text.
