Abstract

While the importance of biological control for crop production is widely recognized, research on how farmers view predatory insects in eradicating pests on agricultural land is still rare. Although there is much ecological research on predatory beetles as part of biological control, little social research has been conducted on the critical level of understanding of biological control and the organisms involved. This research examines farmers' understanding of using predatory beetles as a biological control concept on agricultural land in Gunung Batu Village, East OKU Regency. Therefore, this research aims to see how farmers' skills are in managing integrated pest control using predatory Coleoptera beetles in managing rice cultivation. The research results show that farmers still use predatory beetles as part of controlling pest populations on agricultural land. Farmers consider predatory beetles to prevent pest outbreaks that can harm quality rice production. So, farmers can build a network of farmers so they can learn from each other and share local knowledge. Apart from that, the results obtained from integrated pest control, farmers can experience positive results and can positively influence farmers' perceptions of natural enemies of agricultural pests. Keywords: Agricultural pests, Coleoptera beetles, biological control, predators

Abstract

Income distribution is an analysis used to see the level of income distribution in a certain class. Income distribution is obtained by identifying various sources of income of sample farmers, namely income from rubber farming, non-rubber farming income and non-agricultural income. In the study entitled Distribution Analysis of Household Income of Rubber Farmers in Kuapan Village, Tambang District, Kampar Regency, the number of rubber farmers sampled was 50 farmers which were divided into 2 groups, namely non-owner tapping farmers (15 sample farmers) and tapping farmers as well as owners (35 farmers). sample farmers) with proportionate stratified random sampling and snowball sampling. Based on the results of the study, there was no income inequality either in the group of non-owner tapping farmers and the group of tapping farmers as well as owners. Where the combined Gini ratio index is 0.19. Based on the research, equity in both groups of farmers can occur because (1) tapping farmers have other income besides rubber farming (2) non-owner tapping farmers benefit from a profit-sharing system with a ratio of 1: 2 (3) tapping farmers as well as owners have to pay maintenance costs. and land clearing (4) non-owner tapping farmers only incur costs for tools and operational materials.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the marketing of rice in Bunga Raya Village and Kemuning Muda Village in Bunga Raya District using a structural, behavioral and market performance approach. The research location was determined by purposive sampling, namely two villages which were the centers of rice production. Respondents from this study were rice farmers and all marketing institutions involved in marketing rice from farmers as producers to wholesalers as consumers. The results show that there are three channels of rice marketing, namely marketing channels I, farmers sell to collectors, then collectors sell to wholesalers, marketing channels II, farmers sell to collectors who have mobile rice milling and marketing channels III, farmers sell to wholesalers. The market structure of rice that occurs is the oligopsonic market, judging by the relatively small number of buyers, then viewed from the market share value, concentration ratio and the Herfindhal Index of each trader shows a value that is not too different. Farmers as producers are price takers which results in the rate of price changes at farmers as producers are smaller than the rate of price changes at the level of wholesalers as consumers. The marketing margin seen from each marketing channel that occurs shows that the largest margin and profit are obtained by traders who perform more marketing functions.
