Abstract

Abstract : CIFOR is a scientific research organization that focus on tropical forests in developing countries and the area were surrounded  with secondary forest and residential areas. Increasing number of residential area have caused changes of the butterfly habitat and may decrease butterfly population in the area. Aim of the research was to study the diversity of the butterflies in CIFOR area based on different habitats and the relation diversity of butterflies with environmental factor. The observations were done by scan sampling method in the morning and afternoon at two locations i.e., secondary forest and residential area. Results showed that 59 spesies and 441 individual of butterflies were found at the areas within 8 weeks of observation. At secondary forest and residential area were found 42 spesies (256 individu), and 40 spesies (174 individu) of butterflies. The diversity of butterflies was higher in the areas (H’ > 3), where residential area has higher value (H’ = 3,34) than secondary forest (H’ = 3,16). Sorensen similarity index (CN) showed that two locations were different community structures because there were several different dominant species at each location. Statistically, wind speed gave more significant influence on the number butterfly individuals than other climate parameters. It is recommended for CIFOR to pay more attention to the butterfly habitat conditions, especially the diminishing larval feed plants. Keywords: Butterfly, CIFOR, Papilionoidea, Secondary Forest, Residential Area.

Abstract

The structure of wing scales in four species of papilionid butterflies were investigated. The aim of this study was to determine the differences of wing scales structure from four species butterflies in Superfamily Papilionoidea. Small fragments of wings vein M1 and M2 were cut and observed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The wing scales had two types, i.e. rectangular and triangular. Microstructure of wings scales also had many forms consist with window, crossribs, and ridges. All scales of the wing of butterflies observed had different forms (scales, microstructures, and serrations), eventhough the point of viewd were the same. Only Catopsilia scylla had two types scales and Arhopala araxes had different forms of microstructures.

Abstract

Dragonflies (Ordo Odonata) are attractive and colorful insects in aquatic and wetland ecosystems. Dragonflies have large, transparent and long wings which make them one of the most agile flying insects. Dragonflies are also one of the insects that are often used as water quality indicators. This study was to determine the diversity of dragonflies in three types of habitats and their correlation with environmental factors. The research was conducted in a residential area in Palembang City in November 2022 using the scan sampling method. The total number of dragonflies found was 18 species and 538 individuals divided into 2 suborders and 4 families. Orthetrum sabina dragonfly is the dominant dragonfly species found (136 sp). Meanwhile, Ischnura verticalis, Pseudagrion microcephalum, Agriocnemis rubescens and Nosoticta sp. is the rarest species of dragonfly to be found. The diversity value of the Shannon-Wiener index indicates that dragonflies prefer open habitats. Habitat shape and plant vegetation affect the number of dragonflies found, but does not affect the abundance of these dragonflies. The results of the analysis show that wind speed and temperature affect the presence of dragonflies during the observation.

Abstract

The teacher is a facilitator in determining learning objectives to improve the learning process, and students can actively conduct discussions andseek their own experiences. However, teachers must still implement learning models and science process skills in biology lessons so that learning becomes monotonous. Before carrying out science process skills in learning at school, the teacher must first know the profile of students' science process skills (SPS) so that they can support science process skills following the conditions of students. This study aimed to improve students' science process skills by applying inquiry learning models to biotechnology material in class XII IPA 1 MA Aisyiyah Palembang. The research method used was classroom action research by applying an inquiry learning model consisting of 2 cycles with six meetings, with three in each cycle. The subjects of this study were students of class XII IPA 1 MA Aisyiyah Palembang, with a total of 18 students. The results of the study found an increase in students' SPS scores. Cycle 1 basic skills (89.96%) increased in cycle 2 (96.29%), cycle one process skills (90.43%) increased in cycle 2 (94.13%), and investigative skills in cycle 1 (46.29%) also increased in cycle 2 (86.10%). The findings prove that applying the inquiry learning model can increase students' science process skills.
