ANDIL Mulawarman Journal of Community Engagement (ANDIL Mulawarman J Comm Engag) merupakan jurnal Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) yang diterbitkan oleh Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (LP2M) Universitas Mulawarman. Jurnal ini berisi tentang penerapan dan hilirisasi hasil-hasil penelitian melalui kegiatan PkM dalam berbagai bidang multidisiplin seperti pendidikan, teknosains dan komputer, agrokompleks, kesehatan, dan sosbudkum (sosial, budaya, dan hukum), serta Kewirausahaan dan ekonomi. Selain itu, ANDIL Mulawarman J Comm Engag memuat berbagai kegiatan yang dilakukan dalam menangani dan mengatasi berbagai permasalahan yang terjadi di Masyarakat dengan menerapkan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi yang kemudian dapat bermanfaat bagi peningkatan kesejahteraan Masyarakat. Artikel-artikel dalam jurnal ini diterbitkan empat kali dalam setahun yaitu periode terbit Januari-Maret, April-Juni, Juli-September, dan Oktober-Desember.

Abstract

Anemia remains a significant health problem among adolescent girls, including in East Kalimantan, with a prevalence of 43.2%. Low adherence to iron supplementation (iron tablets) and limited understanding of dietary iron sources pose challenges to prevention efforts. This study employed a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 25 eleventh-grade students of SMK Negeri 3 Samarinda. The intervention consisted of interactive education on anemia prevention and herbal utilization through the distribution of leaflets, posters, discussion sessions, and iron tablet supplementation, followed by effectiveness evaluation using pre-test, post-test, and questionnaires. The results showed an improvement in knowledge, indicated by an increase in the number of students with correct answers from 20 in the pre-test to 23 in the post-test, with the greatest improvement observed in understanding anemia symptoms and the benefits of iron supplementation. Adherence to iron tablet consumption was also high, with 96% of students reporting consumption at home. Interactive education was effective in improving students’ knowledge and awareness in preventing anemia. The use of commonly available herbal resources can serve as a complementary strategy for anemia prevention due to their iron, vitamin, and mineral content. Continuous education is required to maintain adherence to iron supplementation and promote a balanced diet.

Abstract

Seni pertunjukan merupakan representasi nilai-nilai budaya dan tradisi dimana secara kovensional ditampilkan melalui bentuk pergelaran dan disaksikan secara langsung oleh penonton. Tantangan di era globalisasi berkaitan dengan kebutuhan pemanfaatan media teknologi yang mampu menunjang  pengemasan dan penyajian teks sastra dalam pertunjukan. Artikel pengabdian masyarakat ini memaparkan pelaksanaan kegiatan pelatihan perekaman audio dan penampilan dramatic reading, beserta kendala dan rencana tindak lanjut ke depan. Metode yang digunakan berupa ceramah, diskusi, demonstrasi, dan praktik. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan perekaman audio dan praktik dramatic reading meningkatkan pemahaman peserta dalam menyajikan penampilan karya seni sastra dengan lebih menarik serta membuka peluang alternatif penyebarluasan seni pertunjukan berbasis teknologi.

Abstract

Dense residential areas face a high risk of household fires due to limited access to firefighting services and the lack of early-stage fire suppression facilities at the household level. Meanwhile, waste cooking oil generated from households remains underutilized and poses potential environmental pollution. This study aims to develop an innovation framework for a portable fire extinguisher (APAR) based on bio-foam formulated from soap-based surfactants derived from waste cooking oil as an effort for early-stage fire mitigation. The method includes community-based fire mitigation education, formulation of Bio-Foam Kaliandra through a saponification process, small-scale fire extinguishing simulations, and evaluation based on community feedback. The results indicate that the produced bio-foam has the potential to serve as an alternative extinguishing medium by forming a stable foam layer that suppresses oxygen supply, reduces temperature, and decreases fire intensity. In addition, the evaluation results show an improvement in community understanding and a positive level of acceptance toward this innovation. The novelty of this study lies in integrating household waste management with community-based fire mitigation through a simple, applicable, and locally resource-based technology. This innovation not only provides an alternative early fire suppression tool but also adds value to waste cooking oil as a sustainable waste-to-product solution. Overall, Bio-Foam Kaliandra demonstrates strong potential to enhance community preparedness in responding to household fires and to support the development of sustainable and replicable community-based disaster mitigation programs.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of social capital–based communication in supporting environmental sustainability and climate action in RT 51 Kampung Warga Siaga Sehat (WASIAT) Sejahtera, Baru Ilir Subdistrict, Balikpapan City. Despite the physical limitations of their area, residents of RT 51 in Baru Ilir Village have demonstrated an ability to adapt in managing their environment through various community-based activities. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. The findings indicate that social capital, reflected in interpersonal trust, shared norms, and social networks, plays a significant role in encouraging collective community participation. Community communication developed through Community Health Post activities and everyday interactions serves as a key mechanism for disseminating information, coordinating environmental actions, and fostering environmental awareness. This study confirms that social capital–based communication plays a strategic role in enhancing environmental sustainability and community resilience at the local level. Simple initiatives driven by active community participation can serve as effective approaches to supporting climate action and improving the welfare of urban communities.

Abstract

The availability of clean water is still a challenge in various regions, especially in areas with limited water supply infrastructure. Indonesia has the potential for abundant rainfall as an alternative water source, but its use requires simple processing to meet water quality standards. This community service activity aims to design and implement a rainwaterbased gravity filtration system as a solution for providing sustainable clean water on a household scale. The method used is a design and build approach, including designing the structure of the device, determining the composition of the natural filtration media, as well as testing the performance of the system without the use of electrical energy and chemicals. The novelty of this activity lies in the development of appropriate technology that is simple, economical, environmentally friendly and easy to replicate by the community. The filtration system is designed using filter cotton media, fine sand, zeolite, activated carbon and gravel arranged in layers to remove suspended particles and improve the physical characteristics of rainwater. The design results show that the system has a simple design, is easy to assemble, and has the potential to improve water quality and community access to clean water. It is hoped that the implementation of this technology can support optimal use of rainwater, increase community independence, and contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 6 concerning safe and sustainable access to clean water.

Abstract

The slope stability of the Kaliandra Program infrastructure is vulnerable to hydrological risks and energy inefficiencies caused by manual irrigation mechanisms that rely on human intervention. This community service activity designed a distributed automatic control system to overcome these issues. The core novelty of this intervention lies in the synergistic integration of a circular economy, localized edge computing, and preventive disaster mitigation. By repurposing discarded electronic set-top boxes into autonomous local cloud servers, the system effectively severs dependence on vulnerable public internet infrastructure. A distributed control architecture was developed utilizing the system development life cycle methodology. Empirical evaluations confirm that the wireless mesh topology guarantees robust data transmission across severe non-line-of-sight topographies, sustaining a perfect packet delivery ratio of 100 percent and a 210-millisecond latency despite a degraded signal strength of -81.33 decibel-milliwatts. Furthermore, the implementation of automated short-duration pulse drip irrigation mitigates critical soil saturation while yielding a verified net energy saving of 6.31 kilowatt-hours monthly. At a highly efficient capital expenditure of 4,919,650 Rupiah, the integration of software-defined protection and touchless interfaces eradicates electrical shock hazards for local facility operators.
