Abstract

Background. Higher education transformation drives governance change from an administrative approach to a participatory and collaborative approach. Universities are no longer solely oriented to education and research but are also required to make a real impact on society through innovation, research, and strengthened partnerships. Aims. This research aims to analyze the development of the concept of collaborative governance and its role in supporting the realization of impactful universities. Methods. This study uses a qualitative approach with the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. The articles analyzed totaled 200, comprising SINTA and Scopus articles, and were then reduced to 100 based on topic relevance and document completeness. The advanced selection process resulted in 27 articles considered most representative for analysis using thematic analysis techniques. Result. The results show that collaborative governance strengthens multi-stakeholder engagement, improves the quality of decision-making, expands partnership networks, encourages a research culture, and strengthens innovation in higher education. Conclusion. Thus, collaborative governance is an important strategy in realizing impactful and sustainable higher education.

Abstract

Aims. This study aims to determine the relationship between smoking behavior and mental health in Generation Z students. Methods. This research involved 104 Generation Z students who are active smokers in Indonesia using a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were the Glover-Nilsson Smoking Behavior Questionnaire to assess smoking behavior and the Self-Reporting Questionnaire to assess mental health. Data analysis used the Pearson Product-Moment correlation technique. Result. The results showed a significant positive correlation between smoking behavior and mental health, with a correlation coefficient of 0.232 and a significance value of 0.018. This finding indicates that the higher the smoking behavior of Generation Z students, the higher the mental distress experienced. Conclusion. The contribution of smoking behavior to mental distress was 5.4 percent, while the remaining 94.6 percent was influenced by other factors not examined in this study. Implementation. This research is expected to provide empirical evidence for developing comprehensive prevention and intervention programs related to smoking behavior and mental health in universities.

Abstract

Background. Early adulthood is marked by increasing academic and interpersonal demands that heighten vulnerability to stress. Interpersonal communication is considered a key psychosocial resource, yet its role in stress regulation among university students remains underexplored. Methods. This mixed-methods study examined the relationship between interpersonal communication skills and perceived stress among 114 university students. Quantitative analyses included Pearson correlation, simple linear regression, and group comparisons, while qualitative data from open-ended responses were analyzed thematically using Lazarus and Folkman’s transactional model of stress and coping. Result. The results showed a significant negative correlation between overall interpersonal communication skills and perceived stress (r = −.185, p = .025). Regression analysis confirmed interpersonal communication skills as a significant negative predictor of perceived stress (β = −.185, p = .049), explaining 3.4% of the variance. No significant relationships were found between perceived stress and individual communication dimensions. Female students reported higher perceived stress than male students, whereas no differences were observed in interpersonal communication skills. Perceived stress and communication skills also did not differ by religion, education level, or ethnic background. Conclusion. Qualitative findings revealed that stress was experienced as a multidimensional and cumulative process, shaped by academic pressure, interpersonal conflict, family issues, environmental conditions, physical health, and intrapersonal struggles. Participants reported using a combination of adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies. Implementation. These findings suggest that interpersonal communication operates as a holistic protective resource rather than through isolated skill components. By integrating quantitative and qualitative evidence, this study extends existing research by highlighting the contextual and multifaceted nature of stress and coping in early adulthood.
