Abstract

Background: Anxiety is a mental health problem that many adolescents experience and has an impact on academic, social, and long-term psychological well-being. Art-based nonpharmacological interventions, particularly choirs with breathing exercises, are reported to have the potential to reduce anxiety. However, systematic integration of scientific evidence remains limited. Objective: This systematic review aims to synthesize scientific evidence on the effect of breathing training during choir activities on anxiety levels in adolescents. Methods: The review was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines. Literature searches were conducted on Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect for articles published in the last 10 years. Inclusion criteria include quantitative or mixed-methods studies of adolescents (ages 17–25) that examine breathing training in the context of choir or singing activities and measure anxiety as an outcome. Data is extracted and synthesized narratively. Results: A total of 8 articles met the inclusion criteria. The majority of studies reported a significant reduction in anxiety levels after a breathing training intervention in a choir. The mechanisms identified include activation of physiological relaxation responses, emotion regulation, increased focus, and social support through group activities. Conclusions: Breathing training in choir activities has the potential to be an effective and applicable nonpharmacological intervention to reduce anxiety in adolescents. However, the heterogeneity of the design and measurement instruments is a major limitation. Further research with a more robust experimental design is still needed.

Abstract

Background. The prohibition of leaving the house at sunset is believed to be a myth passed down from generation to generation. A myth is a story set in the past, contains an interpretation of the universe, and is considered to have happened by the person who tells the story or its adherents. Then, in a broader sense, a myth can refer to a traditional story. The film poster Maghrib Time is related to the myth of the prohibition on leaving the house during Maghrib etiquette. Then there are visual signs, such as child visuals, cultural elements, and characteristic design elements, including colour, layout, images, logos, and typography. Aims. This research aims to examine the meanings of Javanese cultural traditions on Maghrib film posters and the meanings of the signs. Methods. Then, the data sources were obtained from two sources: primary (observations on film posters at Maghrib time) and secondary (documentation such as interviews, the internet, journals, and books), using qualitative methods and Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis approach, based on object, representation, and interpretant. Data were obtained from observations, interviews, and a literature review. Result. The results of this research are that, in Maghrib Time, many supernatural creatures roam around, so it is recommended that children not go out at that time. It is also believed in the myth that at dusk, there is a new gimbal figure who likes children in the dark. There are also icons, indexes, and symbols through the selection of typographic elements, images, and colours.

Abstract

Background. Extraverted individuals are generally characterized by sociability, assertiveness, and active participation in social contexts, which may enhance their involvement in environmental initiatives. However, the extent to which these personality traits translate into sustained environmental engagement is likely influenced by students’ intrinsic motivation toward environmental responsibility. Aims. This study investigates the influence of extraversion personality on students’ engagement in school-based environmental actions, with pro-environmental motivation examined as a mediating mechanism. Methods. A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed using survey data collected from 200 senior high school students enrolled in eco-friendly schools. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to assess both direct and indirect relationships among constructs. Result. The findings indicate that extraversion personality significantly influences pro-environmental motivation and directly affects students’ engagement in environmental actions. Furthermore, pro-environmental motivation significantly mediates the relationship between extraversion and student engagement, highlighting the importance of internal motivational processes in translating personality traits into pro-environmental behavior. Conclusion. These results contribute to the literature on environmental psychology and educational behavior by demonstrating the dual pathway through which personality and motivation interact to promote student participation in sustainability initiatives. Implementation. Practically, the study underscores the importance of fostering intrinsic motivation alongside personality-sensitive strategies to strengthen youth engagement in environmental conservation programs.
