Abstract

Corticosteroids are widely used drugs in a variety of clinical conditions and are known to affect glucose metabolism through increased gluconeogenesis and insulin resistance. In patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DMT2), corticosteroid use has the potential to worsen glycemic control and increase the risk of hyperglycemia. However, the scientific evidence regarding the effect of corticosteroids on glycemic control in DMT2 patients is still scattered and varied, so a systematic review is needed. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effect of corticosteroid use on glycemic control in DMT2 patients based on a narrative synthesis of available research results. Literature searches were conducted systematically on electronic databases PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. The included studies included observational and experimental studies involving DMT2 patients receiving corticosteroid therapy, with outputs in the form of glycemic control parameters such as fasting blood glucose, postprandial blood glucose, and HbA1c. The selection of studies is carried out based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria that have been set. The methodological quality assessment of the study was carried out using relevant instruments, and the research results were synthesized narratively following the PRISMA guidelines. Most of the studies reviewed showed an increase in blood glucose levels and/or HbA1c in patients taking corticosteroids, particularly in the use of systemic corticosteroids with specific doses and durations. The variation in effects on glycemic control was influenced by the type of corticosteroid, route of administration, duration of therapy, and clinical characteristics of the patient. Some studies have also reported an increased need for antidiabetic therapy during corticosteroid use. Based on narrative synthesis, corticosteroid use tends to negatively impact glycemic control in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients.

Abstract

Diarrhea in toddlers remains a public health problem in Kediri City. Data from the Kediri City Health Office in 2024 showed 3,755 cases of diarrhea, with the Campurejo Community Health Center (Puskesmas) as the highest contributor, with 257 cases among toddlers in Bandar Kidul Village. This study aims to determine maternal behavioral strategies for preventing diarrhea in toddlers in Bandar Kidul Village, Kediri City. This study used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Nine informants participated: 7 mothers of toddlers as primary informants and 2 key informants: health cadres and the person in charge of the Campurejo Community Health Center diarrhea program. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed thematically. The results indicate that mothers of toddlers have adequate knowledge and attitudes, but diarrhea prevention practices are not consistently implemented. The study's conclusions highlight the need for continuous strengthening of health promotion to improve diarrhea prevention behaviors in toddlers.

Abstract

The nursing profession is dominated by women who have become a social phenomenon. Culturally and behaviorally in society, nursing is feminine and inappropriate for men. There are 532,935 health students with 165,209 (30.57%) nursing students in Indonesia. The phenomenon that occurs is that there is a prevalence of 45-52% of male students in nursing study programs in Indonesia. Using a quantitative non-experimental cross-sectional study design. Sampling using a simple random sampling technique of 96 respondents. Data collection of gender stereotypes using the SGQ questionnaire and major satisfaction data using AMSS. Data were analyzed using the Spearman's rho test. The results showed that the level of gender stereotypes in the low category was 66.67% and major satisfaction in the low category was 62.5%. The results of the Spearman's rho test showed a significance value of the level of gender stereotypes and major satis faction of 0.000 <0.05, with a fairly strong positive correlation direction. So H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected, meaning there is a relationship between gender stereotypes and major satisfaction of nursing students in Kediri City. Based on the results of the study, it is suggested that institutions can develop programs that help students understand the reality of the nursing profession so that they have more realistic expectations of the chosen major. For educational institutions, it is suggested to hold seminars or training related to gender equality in nursing to improve students' understanding of their professional roles. For the nursing profession, it is suggested to be more active in campaigning that this field is open to all genders. For further researchers, it is suggested that further researchers conduct a more in-depth study of other factors that can moderate the relationship between gender stereotypes and major satisfaction.
