Abstract

Many theories are developing in understanding the educational goals. However, not all theories can examine how human develop optimally along with all their potentials. So, there is a need for discussion of the concept of development of Islamic education through the comparative analysis of the theory of Fitrah in Islam and the theories of Nativism, Empiricism and Convergence as the theoretical basis which aims to understand better Islamic education and contribute to its further conceptual development. To this end, this study offers a comparative analysis of the theory of Fitrah in Islam and theories of Nativism, Empiricism and Convergence to search for the construction of Islamic education development. The study uses a library research method which is descriptive-analysis in nature while its analysis uses content-analysis. The primary book source of this study is Yasien Muhammad’s book, Fitrah: The Islamic Concept of Human Nature and Murtadha Muthahari’s Al-Fitrah, translated into Indonesian by Afif Muhammad as “Bedah Tuntas Fitrah”. In term of the role of God in developing human beings’ potentials (fitrah), this research found that: First, God is the driving force (Causa Prima). Second, God develops human nature genetically. The research also found that the construction of development of Islamic education based on the theory of Fitrah has two functions: first, Islamic education is an antidote of secularism in the world of Islamic education. Second, it seeks to shape a quality or civilized human being according to the Qur'anic values.

The need for education in this age in which we live was occupy a position of the status of necessity, so education is one of the purposes of the Maqashid Sharia, which can not be denied in our social life. Islam as a religion of mercy is known to include all matters of humanitarian issues, including education, while it requires the planning of educational systems to regulate human life in order to achieve the general humanitarian interest. But so far, many educational thinkers have not talked about the concept of the constants and variables in the philosophy of Islamic education. As the researcher at this opportunity, we will talk about that concept by showing its intellectual map through three areas: the fundamentalist field, the relational field and the methodological field. Based on this, it is mentioned that the study in these fields is the focus of research in this research to discover the march of the philosophy of Islamic education from the religious principles to the schools of human thought.

Abstract

The paper discusses the role of Islamic education in eradicating radicalism and anarchy. It argues that there are many radicalism and anarchy acts that appear in Indonesia and that military/security approach may not be effective in eradicating radicalism and anarchy in Islam. Another approach is required to solve the problem, namely pluralist-multicultural Islamic education. The main purpose of this approach is on understanding and appreciation among students to their own and others’ culture—including religion—and based on Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) as well as Pancasila (the Five Pillars). By applying pluralist-multicultural Islamic education, it is expected that it will be an effective instrument to develop tolerance and peace among students since their early ages; therefore, they will become a pluralist-multicultural generation. In the long run, various radicalism and anarchy acts in Indonesia can be reduced.

Abstract

Culture is one of media in spreading Islamic teachings in the Archipelago. In this modern era, however, many people are not familiar with their culture – particularly the values embedded in it including the noble values as contained in Javanese proverbs.  This study aims to explore the noble values inherited by the Javanese ancestors which essentially contain Islamic education values. This is a library research in which the primary sources are 10 Javanese proverbs whose meanings are studied by means of semiotic analysis technique. The results of the research show that Javanese proverbs contain the values of Islamic education in the form of Aqidah (faith), Syariat (rules or regulation), and Akhlak (moral) values. The contextualization of the Javanese culture values in Islamic education can be reflected in three centers of education: in the family, schools and society at large.
