Abstract

Adolescent girls are more vulnerable to Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) compared to boys due to the monthly loss of iron during menstruation. IDA can be dangerous if not properly addressed, especially in preparation for pregnancy and childbirth (Hardinsyah & Supariasa, 2017). The WHO, through the 65th World Health Assembly (WHA), has set a global target to reduce anemia in women of reproductive age by 50% by 2025. According to WHO data from 2019, the prevalence of anemia among women of reproductive age is 29.9%, which equates to over 500 million women aged 15-49 years. Based on a hemoglobin test of female adolescents at SMPN 1 Kampar in March 2022, it was found that 7 girls had mild to moderate anemia, with an average hemoglobin level of 13.2 g/dL. This community service aims to increase knowledge and positive attitudes toward nutritious food, as well as skills in processing local food rich in iron and protein to prevent anemia. The activities will be carried out from February to September 2024 at SMPN 1 Kampar, targeting teachers, parents, and students. The methods used will include counseling and practical food processing. Based on the results of the pre-test and post-test evaluation, an improvement in the scores of balanced nutrition knowledge was observed. The students successfully prepared meal plans according to the balanced nutrition guidelines and are expected to adjust their consumption patterns in line with the principles of balanced nutrition.

Abstract

Undernutrition is an indicator of malnutrition that affects the growth and development of children. Karang Poh Village is one of the areas that alleviate under-five nutrition problems because of the nutritional problems and the largest number of under-fives in the village. This mentoring activity aims to overcome problems in toddlers who do not gain weight, undernutrition, malnutrition, growth faltering, infant and child feeding, very premature babies, LBW babies, congenital metabolic disorders, and provide health communication, information, and education. This mentoring was carried out from March 2024 to June 2024. This activity is located in Karang Poh Village. Evaluation of the toddler assistance program with nutritional problems is seen from the results of activities in the form of coverage in the form of tables, figures, and diagrams. There was an increase in weight and height of toddlers before and after mentoring. The average increase in toddler weight during the assistance period was 1.02 kg. Meanwhile, the average increase in toddler height is 2.87 cm. The final results of the assistance in June 2024 obtained 1 toddler graduated from pre-stunting, 1 toddler graduated from stunting, and 1 toddler graduated from malnutrition. Mentoring for toddlers with nutritional problems provides good results. However, this mentoring must continue and the mentoring be carried out with more incentives.

Abstract

Stunting remains a significant health problem in Indonesia. Based on the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey, the prevalence of stunting reached 21.5%, exceeding the target of the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) which targets 14% in 2024. The 2022 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey also showed that Pringsewu Regency had a stunting prevalence of 16.2%. Stunting can be handled by providing Supplementary Food (PMT) based on modified local food ingredients, such as catfish floss. Abon, which is generally made from beef, can now be processed using various types of meat, including fish, to provide a variety of flavors and increase nutritional value. This community service activity was carried out in May 2024 in Pekon Wates, Pringsewu, targeting Posyandu cadres. Activities included socialization and demonstration of making catfish floss. The response from Posyandu cadres was very positive. This training in making catfish floss is expected to be an alternative solution in handling stunting. Posyandu cadres gain practical skills in processing catfish into nutritious shredded fish, and can educate the community about the importance of consuming nutritious food to support children's growth and development. Empowerment of posyandu cadres is expected to increase community knowledge and awareness in preventing stunting by providing affordable and easily processed protein sources
