Abstract

Adolescent girls are more vulnerable to Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) compared to boys due to the monthly loss of iron during menstruation. IDA can be dangerous if not properly addressed, especially in preparation for pregnancy and childbirth (Hardinsyah & Supariasa, 2017). The WHO, through the 65th World Health Assembly (WHA), has set a global target to reduce anemia in women of reproductive age by 50% by 2025. According to WHO data from 2019, the prevalence of anemia among women of reproductive age is 29.9%, which equates to over 500 million women aged 15-49 years. Based on a hemoglobin test of female adolescents at SMPN 1 Kampar in March 2022, it was found that 7 girls had mild to moderate anemia, with an average hemoglobin level of 13.2 g/dL. This community service aims to increase knowledge and positive attitudes toward nutritious food, as well as skills in processing local food rich in iron and protein to prevent anemia. The activities will be carried out from February to September 2024 at SMPN 1 Kampar, targeting teachers, parents, and students. The methods used will include counseling and practical food processing. Based on the results of the pre-test and post-test evaluation, an improvement in the scores of balanced nutrition knowledge was observed. The students successfully prepared meal plans according to the balanced nutrition guidelines and are expected to adjust their consumption patterns in line with the principles of balanced nutrition.

Abstract

Undernutrition is an indicator of malnutrition that affects the growth and development of children. Karang Poh Village is one of the areas that alleviate under-five nutrition problems because of the nutritional problems and the largest number of under-fives in the village. This mentoring activity aims to overcome problems in toddlers who do not gain weight, undernutrition, malnutrition, growth faltering, infant and child feeding, very premature babies, LBW babies, congenital metabolic disorders, and provide health communication, information, and education. This mentoring was carried out from March 2024 to June 2024. This activity is located in Karang Poh Village. Evaluation of the toddler assistance program with nutritional problems is seen from the results of activities in the form of coverage in the form of tables, figures, and diagrams. There was an increase in weight and height of toddlers before and after mentoring. The average increase in toddler weight during the assistance period was 1.02 kg. Meanwhile, the average increase in toddler height is 2.87 cm. The final results of the assistance in June 2024 obtained 1 toddler graduated from pre-stunting, 1 toddler graduated from stunting, and 1 toddler graduated from malnutrition. Mentoring for toddlers with nutritional problems provides good results. However, this mentoring must continue and the mentoring be carried out with more incentives.

Abstract

Stunting remains a significant health problem in Indonesia. Based on the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey, the prevalence of stunting reached 21.5%, exceeding the target of the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) which targets 14% in 2024. The 2022 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey also showed that Pringsewu Regency had a stunting prevalence of 16.2%. Stunting can be handled by providing Supplementary Food (PMT) based on modified local food ingredients, such as catfish floss. Abon, which is generally made from beef, can now be processed using various types of meat, including fish, to provide a variety of flavors and increase nutritional value. This community service activity was carried out in May 2024 in Pekon Wates, Pringsewu, targeting Posyandu cadres. Activities included socialization and demonstration of making catfish floss. The response from Posyandu cadres was very positive. This training in making catfish floss is expected to be an alternative solution in handling stunting. Posyandu cadres gain practical skills in processing catfish into nutritious shredded fish, and can educate the community about the importance of consuming nutritious food to support children's growth and development. Empowerment of posyandu cadres is expected to increase community knowledge and awareness in preventing stunting by providing affordable and easily processed protein sources

Abstract

Bullying is one of the significant social problems among children and adolescents with serious impacts on mental health and emotional development. In Indonesia, bullying cases are still quite high and often occur in school and community environments. Lack of understanding about the impact of bullying and minimal prevention education programs are factors that exacerbate this situation. The purpose of this community service is to increase children and adolescents' knowledge about bullying and violence and provide prevention strategies that can be applied in daily life. The target of community service is children and adolescents in RT 25 Sawah Lebar Baru Village, totaling 34 people. This service begins with socialization about the definition, types, causes, and prevention strategies of bullying and measuring the increase in target knowledge from the counseling that has been given. The implementation method uses lecture and question-and-answer approaches with LCD media, power point, and leaflets. The results of community service showed an increase in knowledge of 98.1% from before and after counseling was given. Children and adolescents also showed high enthusiasm in participating in activities and were able to understand the importance of preventing bullying behavior in their environment.

Abstract

Background: Anemia is still a serious health problem in pregnant women in Indonesia, with a prevalence reaching 48.9%. This condition not only increases the risk of maternal and child mortality, but also has an impact on the quality of human resources as a whole. Therefore, handling anemia in pregnancy requires quality health interventions. Objective: This community service aims to improve the knowledge of pregnant women about preventing anemia. Method: This activity is carried out by providing education through leaflets, lectures, discussions, and question and answer sessions. The increase in knowledge is measured by comparing the results of the pretest and post-test descriptively. Results: Before education (pre test), only 33% of pregnant women had good knowledge. After education (post test), the percentage of pregnant women with good knowledge increased sharply to 73%. This figure shows a significant increase in knowledge. Conclusion: Health education about preventing anemia is effective in improving the knowledge of pregnant women.

Abstract

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are often sensitive to gluten and casein, which can worsen digestive and behavioral issues. A gluten-free casein-free (GFCF) diet is commonly used as a nutritional approach, but suitable food options remain limited. This community engagement activity aimed to improve the understanding of parents and teachers of children with ASD regarding the GFCF diet and to introduce an alternative snack made from local ingredients—soft chewy cookies based on MOCAF (Modified Cassava Flour) and purple sweet potato flour. The activity was carried out through a socialization event on May 2, 2025, at Sinar Hafizah Special Needs School (SLB) in Gedong Tataan-Pesawaran, using a participatory approach. The materials presented included basic knowledge about ASD, the importance of the GFCF diet, and the nutritional benefits and potential of local ingredients as safe and healthy food alternatives for children with ASD. The session received enthusiastic responses, as evidenced by active discussions and positive feedback. This activity demonstrates that local food-based education can be an effective strategy in supporting GFCF dietary practices and promoting sustainable food independence for families with special needs children.

Abstract

Stunting remains a chronic nutritional problem in Indonesia with a prevalence of 21.6% according to the 2022 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI), still far from the national target of 14% in 2024. In Bengkulu City, particularly in the Padang Serai Community Health Center (Puskesmas Padang Serai), stunting rates are quite high, especially among fishing families who have limited access to nutritious food. This community service activity aims to increase the understanding of mothers of toddlers regarding the importance of seafood consumption in preventing stunting, improve skills in preparing balanced nutritious menus based on seafood, and support the national convergence program to reduce stunting. Implementation methods include stunting identification and mapping, nutrition socialization and education, training in preparing seafood menu cycles, menu implementation in households, and monitoring and evaluation through pre-post tests and toddler anthropometric measurements. The results of the activity showed success in increasing the knowledge and skills of mothers of toddlers regarding the implementation of seafood-based menu cycles. Based on the results of the pre-test and post-test, there was an average increase in knowledge of 32.5%, covering aspects of balanced nutrition, the benefits of consuming sea fish, menu preparation skills, and stunting prevention. This shows that the participatory educational approach and direct practice are effective in increasing participants' understanding.

Abstract

Adolescence is a nutritionally vulnerable period due to various factors. Adolescent girls are one of the groups at high risk of developing anemia. Data from Riskesdas 2018 show that the prevalence of anemia among adolescents increased from 18.40% in 2013 to 32% in 2018. The purpose of this activity was to provide education on anemia prevention and to strengthen the role of School Health Unit (UKS) teachers in assisting adolescent girls in consuming Iron Supplement Tablets (TTD) at SMPN 1 Kampar. The method used was community education through learning sessions utilizing video media, posters, booklets, and flipcharts, as well as assistance in TTD consumption using monitoring cards. The target of this activity was 60 eighth-grade female students of SMPN 1 Kampar. Initial screening through hemoglobin level examination showed that most students had normal hemoglobin levels (88.3%), although some were still found to have mild and moderate anemia (11.6%). The results showed an increase in students’ knowledge about anemia from 50.3% to 78.8% after the educational intervention. In addition, UKS teachers actively assisted the students in consuming TTD every Friday using monitoring cards. This activity successfully improved adolescent girls’ knowledge about anemia prevention, increased their adherence to consuming TTD, and strengthened the active role of UKS teachers in providing assistance.
