Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease with an increasing incidence rate globally, including in Indonesia. The prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus in Indonesia increased from 8.5% in 2018 to 11.7% in 2023. The disease is characterized by high blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin production or action, thus requiring proper management to prevent complications. Diet, physical activity and lifestyle management. Eating a regular diet, as well as engaging in regular physical activity is essential to prevent complications. Functional food options such as probiotics are an alternative to secondary prevention. This study aims to develop a functional drink formula “Dadih Delight Yoghurt” from local ingredients such as curd, bengkuang and black glutinous rice tape to control blood glucose levels of patients with DM. This experimental study used a completely randomized design with one factor and five treatment levels (15-35% addition of bengkuang juice and black glutinous rice tape) with two repetitions. The results showed that the product “Dadih Delight Yoghurt” had good acceptability, with panelists assessing the color, aroma, taste, texture and overal of the product including the categories “somewhat like” and “like”. This indicates that this product has potential as an effective alternative treatment for diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Acute respiratory tract infections (ARIs) remain a global health issue, with the prevalence of ARIs in Indonesia reaching 1,017,290 million cases, and the highest prevalence occurring in children aged 5-14 years (182,338 cases). ARIs often lead to increased mucus production in children's lungs. One effective nursing intervention to help expel sputum is the application of the combine clapping and vibrating technique for patients with ineffective airway clearance. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of this technique at Puskesmas Punggur, Kota Metro, from July 18-20, 2024. This is a descriptive study using a case study approach. Data was collected through interviews and observations. The results of the study show that applying the combine clapping and vibrating technique for 3 days, with a duration of 10-15 minutes in the morning and evening, can improve effective coughing, reduce sputum, eliminate additional breathing sounds, alleviate shortness of breath, and normalize respiratory rate. In conclusion, this technique has been proven effective as a non-pharmacological nursing intervention, and its application is recommended for children with respiratory disorders.

Abstract

The tambora plant known as ground bile or bandotan in Central Kalimantan, has a variety of benefits due to the content of secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, and saponins. This study aims to determine the effect of tambora leaf extract (Ageratum Conyzoides) on abrasion wound healing in white rats (Rattus Norvegicus) Sprague Dawley. Extraction was carried out by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent, and tested at three different concentrations of 0.25%, 0.5%, and 1%, as well as positive control using Bioplacenton ointment. To analyze the data, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test was used, and the p-value of 0.10 was greater than 0.05. The results showed that tambora leaf extract has antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects that support the healing process of blisters. Tambora leaf extract with a concentration of 1% (P3) proved to be the most effective in accelerating wound healing. The administration of tambora leaf extract (Ageratum Conyzoides) is proven to accelerate the healing of abrasions in Sprague Dawley white rats without causing infection or allergic reactions. Further research is recommended to compare with other ingredients, use different extract concentrations, and involve more samples. In addition, microscopic examination and clinical trials in humans also need to be carried out.

Abstract

Vulnus laseratum is a condition where the continuity of tissue is disrupted and separated from normal tissue, usually due to tearing with significant force. Tambora leaves are known to contain secondary compounds such as terpenoids, alkaloids, essential oils, saponins, and phenols, which have various pharmacological activities. This study aims to evaluate the effect of Tambora leaf extract on the healing of torn wounds in white rats (Rattus norvegicus). The research method used was a true experimental method with a time series control group design. The research population consisted of four male white rats divided into four samples, including three treatment samples with Tambora leaf extract concentrations of 0.25%, 0.5%, and 1%, and one control sample using Bioplacenton ointment. The research results used a normality test (Shapiro Wilk) to analyze the data, with a p-value <0.05, which showed a result of 0.10, indicating that the data were normally distributed. It can be concluded that the concentration of P2 0.5% produces the optimal effect, better than the lower concentrations of Tambora leaf extract, and the 0.5% concentration results in the most effective hemostatic effect on wound healing. The suggestion from this study is to conduct clinical trials to evaluate the effectiveness of Tambora leaf extract (Ageratum Conyzoides) in the treatment of torn wounds (vulnus laseratum).

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is pain that occurs before and during menstruation caused by a decrease in progesterone hormone, stress, menarche before age 12, family history, menstrual cycle duration, lack of exercise, and consumption of fast food, which can interfere with adolescents' activities. In Indonesia, it is estimated that 64% of women of reproductive age experience dysmenorrhea, and in West Sumatra, about 57.3% of women experience it. Dysmenorrhea management can be pharmacological or non-pharmacological. Non-pharmacological pain management is safer as it does not cause side effects, such as using warm or cold compresses. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of warm and cold compresses in reducing menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) among female adolescents in Payakumbuh City in 2024. This research used an experimental design with a quasi-experimental approach and a two-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 62 respondents selected using convenience sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that among the 62 respondents, the average pain scale before applying a warm compress was 4.52, which decreased to 0.87 after applying the warm compress. The average pain scale before applying a cold compress was 4.68, which decreased to 0.90 after applying the cold compress. Statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney test yielded a significance value of 0.880 (>0.05), indicating no significant difference between warm and cold compresses in reducing menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) among female adolescents in Payakumbuh City in 2024. It is recommended that adolescent girls experiencing dysmenorrhea perform warm and cold compress therapy independently, as this can help reduce the consumption of pain-relieving medications.
