Abstract

The problem delivered in this study is that some fighters are easily caught when performing side kicks, need help attacking rivals with a higher posture, and need to reach the optimal point when performing splits. This study aims to determine the correlation between leg length and flexibility with the speed of side kicks in martial arts. This quantitative research defines the correlation between the independent and dependent variables. This research uses sampling of 30 fighters by utilizing purposive sampling. The research instrument for limb length uses a rolling meter and flexibility using a side split test, while a statistical test uses multiple correlations. The results showed that (1) there was no significant correlation between leg length and sidekick speed with a sig. of 0.621; (2) There is a significant correlation between flexibility with sidekick speed and the sig value of 0.002;(3) There is a significant correlation between leg length and flexibility with sidekick speed, with an r-value of 0.007. This study concludes that anthropometric components are needed to do side kicks quickly and well in martial arts, especially leg length and physical condition aspects of flexibility.

Abstract

The global COVID-19 pandemic has brought modifications to the world’s education system and not only in the Philippines and requires us to adapt to the change in the teaching-learning process which both teachers and students has to face for the quality education of the country. The radical shift to digital pedagogy followed by online assessments and examinations brought new experiences to both educators and learners like using different technological softwares. This study utilized a qualitative-phenomenological research approach that seeks to understand and describe the universal essence of a phenomenon. The approach investigates the everyday experiences of human beings while suspending the researchers’ preconceived assumptions about the phenomenon (Alchemer, 2021). This study was participated by the Physical Education Teachers from the Department of Education who experienced the new modalities of delivering the subject. The objectives of this study is to identify the problems that physical education teachers face while assessing students' performance, coping methods do physical education teachers use to deal with the challenges, and to look for intervention strategy can be suggested based on the study's findings? Two (2) themes were developed and 8 subthemes were revealed as a result of the data analysis. The themes revealed the most of experiences of the teachers on the assessment of students’ performance and how they respond to the challenges. As a result of these findings, the researchers created an Intervention Program to assist them in developing and improving their knowledge, skills, talents, conduct and teaching competencies to address the issues.

Abstract

Explicit instruction is a purposeful way of overtly teaching students. Explicit in this case, means a clear-cut and finite method of teaching that includes both teaching and delivery procedures. Using this learning, the students perform the skills of the different fitness exercises through practical demonstration with clear and specific instruction. The teachers would tell the students using direct instructions to demonstrate the skills, respectively. Thus, this research determined the efficacy of explicit instruction in fitness exercises for pathfit II at Biliran Province State University – Main, Naval, Biliran during the academic year 2021 – 2022, as basis for enhancement activities. The study used a quasi-experimental research design and had one hundred (100) respondents involved in the survey. Findings revealed the skills performance of the students was excellent after using explicit instruction in fitness exercises as to; muscular strength – push up, muscular endurance - planking, flexibility – sit and reach, and cardiovascular endurance – 3-step test. In other words, there was a significant difference between how well students performed their skills before and after using explicit instruction in fitness exercises. In essence, this paper recommends adopting explicit instruction in teaching fitness exercise to enhance students’ skill performance in terms of muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance to ensure that the students can adhere to the proper method of exercise to successfully complete the tasks.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to discuss and analyze the extent of the influence of using the bosu ball for squat activities on the lower limb. This research will use a quantitative and descriptive research approach. Surface electromyography will be used to measure different squat positions between 900 and 1400. The measurement compares the squat position without a bosu ball with the squat position using a bosu ball. The results of the surface electromyography recording on muscle activity at 900 on the four muscles indicate that the Rectus Femoris (RF) muscle experienced an increase in the percentage of 18.33%, the Vastus Medialis Oblique (VMO) was 77.92%, the Biceps Femoris (BF) was 24.88%, and the Semitendinosus was 79.63%. Meanwhile, on the 1400 muscle activity, the Rectus Femoris (RF) muscle increased by 31.58%, the Vastus Medialis Oblique (VMO) by 20.19%, the Biceps Femoris (BF) by 28.07%, and the Semitendinosus by 42.93%. This study concludes is that differences in muscles will certainly provide different results as well. In the squat activity at an angle of 900, it shows that the most dominant muscle is the Semitendinosus and the Vastus Medialis Oblique (VMO), while in the squat activity at an angle of 1400, it shows that the most dominant muscle is the Semitendinosus and the Rectus Femoris (RF). So, from the squat angle position, some muscles have their own roles and functions, with the Vastus Medialis Oblique (VMO) muscle having the most dominant result.
