Abstract

Background: One of the therapies for CKD patients is hemodialysis (HD), but the HD procedure requires a long and periodic time which can cause physiological and psychological problems experienced by patients such as fatigue, anxiety and sleep disorders. One of the non-pharmacological treatments to overcome anxiety is foot massage therapy. The purpose: of this study was to determine the effect of providing Foot Massage therapy on anxiety levels in chronic kidney failure patients in the hemodialysis room of Pertamina Hospital Palembang. Method: The research method used in this study was pre-experimental with a one group pre-test and post-test design approach. The population in this study were all hemodialysis patients at Pertamina Hospital Palembang as many as 20 people. The sampling technique used total sampling with a sample of 20 respondents. Data collection used a questionnaire sheet. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis using the Paired Sample T Test. Results: The study showed that before Foot Massage therapy, 10 respondents (50%) experienced mild anxiety and after Foot Massage therapy, 8 respondents (40%) did not experience anxiety. The results of the Paired Sample t Test obtained a p value = 0.000, which means that there is an effect of providing Foot Massage therapy on the level of anxiety in chronic kidney failure patients in the hemodialysis room of Pertamina Hospital Palembang in 2024. It is hoped that it can help hemodialysis patients to reduce anxiety levels by providing foot massage therapy as one of the ongoing therapies to be carried out or interpreted in reducing anxiety in the hemodialysis room of Pertamina Hospital Palembang.

Abstract

Background: The first six months of life are a critical period in human development. Maternal sensitivity—defined as a mother’s ability to respond promptly and appropriately to her infant’s needs with warmth and attention—plays a key role in establishing a secure mother–child bond, which is essential for the child’s future social and emotional development. Objective: This study aimed to identify factors influencing maternal sensitivity in mothers with infants aged 0–6 months. Methods: A descriptive quantitative design was employed with 113 respondents selected through non-probability sampling. Inclusion criteria were mothers with infants aged 0–6 months. Maternal sensitivity was measured using the Nursing Child Assessment Teaching Scale (NCAST) questionnaire. Statistical analysis was conducted to determine the association between demographic factors and maternal sensitivity. Results: The number of children and family income were found to have a significant association with maternal sensitivity (p < 0.05). Other factors examined did not show significant relationships. Conclusion: The study concludes that the number of children and family income are the most influential factors affecting maternal sensitivity among mothers of infants aged 0–6 months. Interventions to enhance maternal sensitivity should consider these determinants.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia ranks fifth in the number of people with diabetes. Diabetes cases in Indonesia reach hundreds of thousands, with the majority of sufferers aged over fifteen years. Cases of diabetes mellitus have risk factors that will increase the incidence of diabetes mellitus in 3-4 years later, especially in adolescence related to bad habits towards lifestyle, one of which is lack of physical activity. Some physical activities that are suitable for adolescents such as aerobic exercise that can reduce blood sugar levels. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effect of aerobic exercise on blood sugar levels in adolescents at risk of diabetes mellitus. Methods: This study was Quasi experiment design with a pre-test and post-test two group design. The sample was 60 adolescents who were divided into intervention and control groups. Inclusion criteria were class VIII students, mild and moderate DM risk, and exclusion criteria were severe DM risk. Measurement of blood sugar levels was carried out before and after the intervention using a glucometer. For data analysis using Paired Sample T-Tests and ANCOVA. Results: The results showed a significant decrease in blood sugar levels in the intervention group p-value 0.00, while the control group p-value 0.77. Aerobic exercise has an effect on blood sugar levels with a p-value of 0.00. Conclusion: Aerobic exercise can reduce blood sugar levels while in adolescents at risk of diabetes mellitus. Health promotion programs in schools should integrate regular aerobic exercise sessions into the physical education curriculum, particularly targeting adolescents at risk of diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a major global health issue influenced by various factors, including stress. Online motorcycle taxi drivers are part of the productive-age workforce vulnerable to stress due to job uncertainty, long working hours, and exposure to traffic. Purpose: This study aims to analyse the relationship between stress levels and blood pressure among productive-age online motorcycle taxi drivers in Bandung City. Methods: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design involving 147 respondents selected through random sampling. Data were collected using demographic questionnaires, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and blood pressure measurements via digital sphygmomanometer. Data were analysed using univariate and bivariate methods, including Spearman’s rank and Chi-square tests. Results: The study showed that the majority of respondents were male (91.8%) with an average age of 28 years, and 76.9% were smokers. Most respondents (92.5%) experienced moderate stress. Regarding blood pressure, 53.1% were in the prehypertension category, and 40.1% were in stage 1 hypertension. A significant positive correlation was found between stress level and systolic blood pressure (p < 0.001; r = 0.462), and diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.002; r = 0.258). Smoking behaviour and hypertension history also showed significant relationships with blood pressure. Conclusion: Stress levels are significantly associated with increased systolic and diastolic blood pressure in online motorcycle taxi drivers. These findings highlight the need for stress management and lifestyle interventions to prevent hypertension in informal sector workers. Abstract

Background: Procedural pain is a frequent and clinically important issue in pediatric healthcare, commonly resulting from invasive or semi-invasive medical procedures. Inadequately managed pain can lead to immediate physiological stress as well as long-term psychological and behavioral consequences. Therefore, safe and effective non-pharmacological interventions are needed. Reflexology has been proposed as a complementary approach to reduce procedural pain in children. Objective: This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of reflexology in reducing procedural pain among pediatric patients. Methods: A systematic review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature searches were performed in PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar for studies published within the last five years. Studies were selected using the PICOS framework and included experimental designs involving children undergoing medical procedures and receiving reflexology interventions. Pain outcomes were assessed using validated instruments, including the FLACC Scale and Wong–Baker FACES Pain Rating Scale. Due to clinical and methodological heterogeneity, a narrative synthesis was conducted without meta-analysis. Results: Five studies met the inclusion criteria, including randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies conducted in Egypt, India, and Turkey. The findings consistently showed that foot reflexology significantly reduced procedural or postoperative pain and anxiety compared with standard care or alternative interventions. Additional benefits included improved physiological stability, reduced fear, and enhanced postoperative comfort. Conclusion: Reflexology appears to be an effective, safe, and low-cost non-pharmacological intervention for reducing procedural pain in children.

Abstract

Background: Endotracheal tube (ETT) insertion is a common therapy for critically ill children in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). Medical adhesives used to secure the ETT may compromise skin integrity, leading to medical adhesive-related skin injury (MARSI). Preventive strategies are needed to reduce the risk of MARSI in pediatric patients. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of hydrocolloid prophylaxis in preventing MARSI in children with ETT in the intensive care unit. Methods: A one-shot case study design was used involving 15 pediatric patients with ETT in the intensive care unit. Hydrocolloid prophylaxis was applied to prevent skin injury caused by medical adhesives. Data were analyzed to determine the occurrence of MARSI after the intervention. Results: The findings showed that only two out of 15 respondents experienced MARSI, with a statistically significant result (p = 0.001; p < 0.05). Conclusion: Hydrocolloid prophylaxis was effective in preventing MARSI in children with ETT. The use of this prophylactic intervention is recommended for implementation by nurses in the pediatric intensive care unit.
