Abstract

Background: The heart as an important organ cannot be protected from diseases that can attack it. One of the deadliest diseases in the world is heart attack. Objective: This research aims to determine the behavioral response of heart disease patients which gives rise to individual adaptive responses to maintain individual adaptation in heart disease patients. Method: This research uses a qualitative method with a qualitative descriptive approach. The sampling technique is purposive sampling. Data collection methods were in-depth interviews and observation sheets from Calista Roy. Data analysis using the content analysis method. The informants in this study with heart disease in the Siloam Hospital Palembang Inpatient Room were 4 people (2 men, 2 women) and 1 Key Informant. Results: The results of this study emerged 7 themes, namely lack of knowledge about heart disease, signs and symptoms felt by patients, heart patients' efforts to treat their disease, compliance with treatment regimens, healthy diet and lifestyle, obstacles in maintaining their health, and hospital facilities and actions for heart disease patients. The research results show that there is an adaptive response from heart disease patients which can improve patient integrity and be able to carry out activities that are favorable to survival. However, it was still found that participants lacked knowledge regarding their disease, so there was still non-compliance with the treatment regimen. Conclusions: The use of Roy's adaptive nursing theory in providing nursing care to patients with heart disease makes it easier for nurses to detect the patient's situation in adapting to heart disease.

Abstract

Background: Motivation to recover for drug abusers in prison have psychological and social challenges in their recovery process. motivation to recover from drug addiction is the key to designing an effective and comprehensive rehabilitation program. Objective: This study aims to analyze the motivation to recover in prisoners involved in drug abuse cases at Class II B Polewali Penitentiary. Motivation to recover is a crucial aspect in the rehabilitation process for individuals facing drug addiction, especially in a prison environment that is often full of psychological and social challenges. Method: This study uses a descriptive analytical approach with an observational study design, involving 40 prisoners as samples. The sampling method was carried out using total sampling, which includes the entire population of drug abuse prisoners in the prison. The results of the analysis show that the majority of respondents are between 20 and 44 years old, with most having a prison term of 1-5 years. Result: In terms of motivation to recover, it was found that 57.5% of respondents were at the precontemplation stage, indicating that they had not fully realized or considered the need for positive behavioral changes. Meanwhile, 42.5% of respondents were at the contemplation stage, where they began to realize the problem and consider changes. Conclusions: This study identified that motivation to recover is greatly influenced by several factors, including the length of detention, psychological conditions, and the prison environment. Prisoners with longer prison terms tend to experience a decrease in the frequency of drug use, but many still have not reached the preparation or action stage in the process of changing behavior. In addition, psychological conditions such as anxiety and depression, as well as the prison environment that may exacerbate stress, also contribute to low motivation to recover. These findings emphasize the importance of a more comprehensive approach to supporting the rehabilitation process of drug abuse prisoners. More effective interventions are needed to increase prisoners' awareness and readiness for recovery.

Abstract

Background: Anxiety is a common psychological impact experienced by disaster survivors, including flood survivors. They often develop excessive fear of rain, thunder sounds, and the potential for recurring floods, which may lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). One of the evidence-based psychological therapies effective in addressing anxiety is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which works by altering negative thought patterns and maladaptive behaviors. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effect of CBT on anxiety levels among flood disaster survivors in two disaster-prone areas. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group design. The sample consisted of 60 flood survivors divided into two groups: the intervention group (n=30) and the control group (n=30). Anxiety levels were measured using the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test to assess the effectiveness of CBT in reducing anxiety. Results: The analysis showed a significant difference in anxiety levels before and after the intervention in the experimental group (t(14) = 5.21, p < 0.001), while no significant change was found in the control group (t(14) = 1.32, p = 0.201). The average anxiety score in the intervention group decreased from 36.7 to 15.6, indicating that CBT was effective in reducing anxiety among flood disaster survivors. Conclusion: CBT has been proven effective in reducing anxiety levels among flood survivors by helping them change negative thought patterns and improve coping mechanisms. Implementing CBT can serve as a psychological intervention strategy in post-disaster recovery programs to enhance the mental well-being of survivors. Keywords: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, anxiety, disaster.

Abstract

Background: Diarrhea in children remains a significant global health concern, often accompanied by nausea and vomiting, leading to dehydration and hindered recovery. While oral rehydration solutions and pharmacological therapies are common treatments, the limitations and side effects of the latter have prompted interest in non-pharmacological interventions, such as reflexology. Objective: This literature review aims to explore current evidence regarding reflexology as a complementary therapy for reducing nausea and vomiting symptoms specifically in pediatric patients with diarrhea. Method: A literature review was conducted, analyzing selected articles from databases including Scopus, ProQuest, Clinical Key Nursing, and Sage, covering the years 2020-2025. Keywords used included "reflexology in children," "diarrhea," and "complementary therapy." The selection process involved excluding articles based on publication year, language, duplication, and absence of a comparison group, resulting in a final set of four articles. Results: Four articles were included in the review. Reflexology demonstrates potential for reducing nausea and vomiting, alongside improving comfort and well-being in pediatric patients experiencing diarrhea. This highlights reflexology as a viable option for providing a safe, non-pharmacological approach to managing gastrointestinal symptoms. Conclusion: Reflexology shows promise as a valuable complementary therapy for alleviating nausea and vomiting in children with diarrhea. Integrating reflexology into pediatric care offers a holistic approach that prioritizes patient comfort and enhances treatment outcomes. Future research should focus on rigorous methodologies and larger-scale studies to validate its effectiveness and support its integration into clinical practice.
