Abstract

This study investigates the effects of instructional supervision on teacher performance in public primary schools in Pulaupanggung District, Tanggamus Regency. Instructional supervision is conceptualized as a multidimensional process comprising planning, implementation, and follow-up activities aimed at improving instructional quality. Using a quantitative, non-experimental ex post facto design, data were collected from 75 teachers selected through cluster random sampling across 32 schools. A structured questionnaire with a four-point Likert scale was employed to measure instructional supervision and teacher performance in lesson planning, instructional implementation, and learning evaluation. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression techniques. The results indicate that instructional supervision planning does not have a significant effect on teacher performance across all instructional dimensions. In contrast, the implementation of instructional supervision shows a significant influence on teacher performance in lesson planning and learning evaluation, while follow-up supervision demonstrates a significant effect specifically on learning evaluation. However, neither implementation nor follow-up supervision significantly affects instructional implementation. These findings suggest that the effectiveness of instructional supervision depends more on direct supervisory engagement and continuous feedback than on formal planning procedures. The study contributes to the literature by integrating perspectives from educational administration and performance management, emphasizing the importance of supervision as a managerial–pedagogical mechanism. Practically, the results highlight the need for school leaders to prioritize meaningful supervision implementation and systematic follow-up to enhance teacher performance. Despite its contributions, the study is limited by its correlational design and reliance on self-reported data, indicating opportunities for future research using mixed-methods approaches.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate teachers’ readiness to formulate differentiated learning and social-emotional learning (SEL) at SMKN 1 West Kotaagung in 2024. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through structured interviews with 20 teachers selected using purposive sampling based on teaching experience, educational background, and involvement in professional development activities. The findings indicate that teachers’ readiness remains limited across several critical dimensions. Teachers continue to face difficulties in systematically identifying student differences, developing adaptive learning models and instructional media, and enhancing student learning motivation. In addition, the implementation of social-emotional learning has not been consistently integrated into classroom practices. Teachers encounter challenges in fostering positive student interactions, supporting emotional regulation, and strengthening students’ awareness of the importance of social-emotional competencies. From an interdisciplinary perspective, these findings suggest that teachers’ readiness is influenced by the interaction of pedagogical competence, psychological understanding, and instructional management capacity. The study highlights the need for systematic professional development that integrates differentiated instructional design with social-emotional pedagogy, supported by institutional policies and adequate learning resources. In the context of vocational education, strengthening teachers’ readiness is essential to ensure that learning processes not only address academic diversity but also equip students with social-emotional competencies required for successful participation in the workplace and society.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of criminal law in handling juvenile knife-carrying offenses within the Indonesian juvenile justice system, using North Lampung Regency as an empirical case. Adopting a qualitative socio-legal research design, the study analyzes how statutory criminal norms are applied in practice and how their implementation is shaped by institutional, social, and cultural contexts. Primary data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with law enforcement officials, probation officers, and juveniles in conflict with the law, while secondary data consisted of statutory regulations, judicial decisions, and relevant scholarly literature. The findings indicate that juvenile knife-carrying cases are formally processed in accordance with Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951 and juvenile justice regulations, with procedural safeguards for children generally observed. However, the effectiveness of law enforcement is influenced by limited community participation, low legal awareness, and persistent cultural perceptions that normalize the carrying of sharp weapons. These factors contribute to a predominantly reactive enforcement model that emphasizes post-offense handling rather than preventive intervention. The study further reveals a structural tension between the deterrent function of criminal law and the rehabilitative objectives of juvenile justice. This research concludes that juvenile knife-carrying offenses represent an interdisciplinary legal issue that cannot be effectively addressed through doctrinal criminal law alone. A more integrated approach, combining criminal law enforcement, juvenile justice principles, and socio-cultural considerations, is required to achieve sustainable crime prevention and child-centered justice.

Abstract

Leadership effectiveness remains a critical determinant of teacher performance and organizational quality in secondary education. Grounded in leadership and educational management theory, this study investigates the extent to which transformational and democratic leadership styles contribute to teacher performance. A quantitative correlational design was employed, involving data collected from 56 junior high school teachers through validated questionnaires and documentation. Multiple linear regression analysis was applied to examine both the individual and combined effects of the two leadership styles. The findings reveal that transformational and democratic leadership exert significant and positive influences on teacher performance (p < 0.05), with transformational leadership demonstrating a comparatively stronger effect. Transformational leadership enhances performance by fostering vision, motivation, and intellectual stimulation, whereas democratic leadership strengthens performance through participatory decision-making, shared responsibility, and collaborative school governance. The results support the theoretical proposition that effective educational leadership is multidimensional and integrative rather than singularly directive. This study contributes to the educational leadership literature by providing empirical evidence on the complementary roles of transformational and democratic leadership in shaping teacher performance and organizational climate. Despite its contributions, the study is limited by a restricted sample scope and the exclusion of mediating variables such as job satisfaction, professional development, and organizational support. Future research is encouraged to adopt broader samples, longitudinal designs, and expanded models to further explain the mechanisms linking leadership styles and teacher performance. Overall, the findings emphasize the strategic importance of balanced leadership practices in improving educational effectiveness and sustaining school performance.
