Abstract

The research’s problem is the lack of using Arabic language learning media at MAN 1 Boyolali. Therefore, the objectives of this study are 1) to develop interactive Arabic language learning media based on Articulate Storyline, 2) to determine the feasibility of media, and 3) to determine the response of class X MIPA 4 students. This study used a R&D method with the Borg & Gall model which consists of 6 steps. Material and media experts validate the product. Then the researcher conducted a product trial on 32 class X MIPA 4 students. The results are: 1) Learning media developed by the Articulate Storyline application which can be accessed online via smartphone, laptop, and computer. 2) Learning media in the feasible category based on the assessment of material and media experts with an ideal percentage of 83.529% and  95.384%. 3) The response of students is very good. Students are engrossed and enjoy learning with the media.

Abstract

Arabic language learning in various educational institutions is still dominated by a general approach, making it less responsive to the specific needs of students who require Arabic for specific professional contexts. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of Arabic for Specific Purposes (ASP) learning, the challenges of its implementation, and its development practices in the context of education, comparing practices in Indonesia and Malaysia. This study uses a qualitative approach with literature study and document analysis methods on scientific articles, curricula, and research reports related to ASP, particularly in Indonesia and Malaysia. The analysis was conducted through theme grouping, synthesis of findings, and comparison of application contexts. The results of the study show that Arabic for Specific Purposes learning requires an adaptive curriculum based on needs analysis, the use of communicative and contextual approaches, and collaboration between educational institutions and the world of work. Differences in practice were found between Indonesia, which tends to be theoretical, and Malaysia, which is more applicative. These findings emphasize the importance of developing a responsive and applicative ASP curriculum to increase the relevance of Arabic learning to the needs of the world of work.

Abstract

Low motivation in Arabic writing remains a persistent challenge in Arabic language learning, highlighting the need to explore influential non-linguistic factors. This study aims to examine the influence of self-efficacy, learning environment, and social support on students’ motivation for Arabic writing (dāfi‘iyyah al-kitābah) in the Arabic Language Education Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. Employing a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 30 students through a Likert-scale questionnaire with established validity and high reliability (α = 0.87). The results reveal that all three variables significantly influence writing motivation (p < 0.05), with self-efficacy emerging as the strongest predictor. The regression model explains 63% of the variance (R² = 0.63), indicating the substantial role of psychological and contextual factors. These findings contribute to motivation theory by reinforcing the importance of internal beliefs and external support systems in language learning. Practically, the study suggests that enhancing students’ confidence, creating a supportive learning environment, and strengthening social support can effectively improve Arabic writing motivation.

Abstract

Arabic language learning still faces challenges in developing productive skills, particularly speaking (kalam) and writing (kitabah), which have not been optimized due to the dominance of conventional teaching approaches. Meanwhile, in-depth qualitative studies examining the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) especially those that integrate these two skills simultaneously remain relatively limited. This study aims to analyze the implementation of PjBL and examine the dynamics of the development of kalam and kitabah skills in Arabic language learning. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including interviews, documentation, and analysis of learning artifacts. The findings indicate that the implementation of PjBL fosters a shift in learning toward a student-centered approach through authentic project-based activities. This approach demonstrates enhanced productive skills, increased self-confidence, and greater student engagement in learning. On the other hand, the implementation of PjBL also faces a number of challenges, such as time constraints, heterogeneity in language proficiency, and complexity in the development of assessment instruments. This study contributes to the development of Arabic language pedagogy by affirming the relevance of PjBL as a contextual approach and the importance of strengthening teacher competencies and institutional support in its implementation

Abstract

This study examines the use of a communicative approach in Arabic language teaching to develop students’ listening (mahārah istimā’) and speaking (kalām) skills at the Ittihadul Bayan Islamic Boarding School. The study addresses the limited development of oral skills in traditional Arabic instruction that often emphasizes grammar and translation. A qualitative case study design was applied. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers, document analysis, and assessment of students’ performance in listening and speaking activities. The findings indicate that the communicative approach, implemented through dialogic interaction, role play, language games, and context-based tasks, supports the development of students’ comprehension of spoken Arabic and improves their speaking fluency. The approach also fosters greater confidence and consistency in using Arabic in daily communication. However, several constraints were identified, including differences in students’ initial abilities, limited audio learning media, and inconsistent language use in the environment. These challenges were addressed through differentiated instruction, the use of simple technology, and the implementation of structured daily muḥādatsah activities. The study implies that a communicative approach can function as a contextually relevant model for integrating receptive and productive skills in pesantren-based Arabic learning. Nevertheless, this study is limited to a single institutional setting and a qualitative scope, which restricts broader generalization. Future research is recommended to apply comparative designs across different pesantren contexts and to employ quantitative or mixed-method approaches to test the effectiveness of communicative models more widely

Abstract

The teaching of Arabic reading skills still faces challenges, particularly students’ difficulties in accurately reading Arabic texts in terms of pronunciation, intonation, and comprehension. Previous research has generally been dominated by conventional approaches, and few studies have integrated the reading aloud method with PowerPoint, particularly in the context of MTs. This study aims to describe the implementation of the PowerPoint-based reading aloud method in maharah qira’ah instruction at MTs Negeri 10 Sleman. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that the application of the PowerPoint-based reading aloud method effectively enhances students’ qira’ah skills, particularly in pronunciation and text comprehension, while also boosting their confidence in reading aloud. PowerPoint serves as a visual aid that facilitates vocabulary and context comprehension, although challenges include time constraints and low self-confidence among some students. The implications of this study suggest that integrating the reading aloud method with PowerPoint is an effective instructional innovation for improving students’ qira’ah skills and self-confidence.
