Abstract

The high condition of income inequality in Yogyakarta (DIY) among other provinces in Indonesia indicates that based on the Kuznets hypothesis, the increase in per capita income has not been able to overcome inequality. We found a previous study that government expenditure could reduce income inequality. At the same time, Keynesian states that forming national income is government expenditure. Exciting phenomena have directed this study to determine the effect of government expenditure on GRDP per capita and the impact of these variables on income inequality, using district/city level data in the DIY province for 2012-2021 with panel data analysis. The study also analyzes the indirect effect of government expenditure on income inequality through per capita GRDP using the Sobel test. The finding shows that government expenditure and GRDP per capita affect inequality. At the same time, Indirect effect analysis finds that government expenditure affects inequality through per capita income.

Abstract

The Province of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) is a province that ranks second on the Human Development Index (IPM) nationally and in all provinces on the island of Java. But there are still districts that have an average HDI below the provincial average HDI. The purpose of this research is to identify and analyze the factors that influence the Human Development Index (HDI) in the Province of DIY. The data used in this research is secondary data. This study used panel data regression analysis using the E-Views 9 application. This study used a combination of time series data and cross-sectional data from 5 districts/cities in the Province of DIY. The variables used in this study are HDI, the number of unemployed, UMR, PAD and population density. The estimation model used in this study uses the Fixed Effect Model (FEM). The results show that variables which have a significant effect on HDI are the number of unemployed, regional minimum wage (UMR), and population density. Meanwhile, Original Local Government Revenue (PAD) doesn't have a significant effect on HDI.

Abstract

Indonesia is an agricultural country with great potential in producing food commodities. Rice is the most widely consumed food commodity by the Indonesian population, so one of the main tasks of the government is to ensure that the availability of rice can meet the needs of the community. This study aims to analyze the effect of rice production, price of imported rice, urban population growth, and foreign exchange reserves on rice imports in Indonesia in 1985-2021. This research is a type of quantitative research using secondary data obtained from UN Comtrade, FAO, and the World Bank. The research method used is the Error Correction Model (ECM). The results of the study stated that (1) rice production has a significant effect on rice imports in the short and long term, (2) the price of imported rice has a significant effect on rice imports in the short and long term, (3) urban population growth has no significant effect on imports rice in the short term, but has a significant effect on rice imports in the long term, and (4) foreign exchange reserves have a significant effect on rice imports in the short and long term.

Abstract

Tourist attractions for international visitors are created by foreign tourists. However, East Java Province has failed to attract international tourists to its tourism attractions, resulting in the lowest number of foreign tourist visits to Java Island. East Java Province has the second-fewest foreign tourist visitation in Java after Banten Province. K-Means clustering, and competitiveness monitor analysis are utilized for quantitative research. The K-Means algorithm was used to classify the number of international tourists to East Java Province based on regions and cities that are divided into two clusters: the high cluster (C1), which includes Banyuwangi Regency, Malang Regency, and Surabaya City, and the remaining 35 regions and cities in the low cluster (C2). According to the Competitiveness Monitor (CM), the tourism competitiveness index on the seven indicators is good. It is only that the 0.35-point OI Indicator has not shown good competitiveness. Tourism in East Java Province can compete with international trade with the local government's focus on controlling tourism to earn revenue.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of Regional Expenditure, population density, HDI, and ICT-DI on the Environmental Performance Index of 34 provinces in Indonesia 2017-2021. The method of this study used panel data regression with Fixed Effects Model approach using Generalized Least Square. Cross sections of this study are 34 provinces in Indonesia with time series from 2017 to 2021 (5 years). Variables in this study consist of independent variables, such as Regional Expenditure, population density, HDI, and Information and Communication Technology Development Index (ICT-DI), and Environmental Performance Index as dependent variable. The results of this study indicate that all variables affect the Environmental Performance Index simultaneously. In partial effect, variables of Regional Expenditure and population density have negative and significant effect on the Environmental Performance Index. While HDI and ICT-DI partially have positive and significant effect on the Environmental Performance Index using significance level of 5%.

Abstract

In international trade, oilseed products are one of the most highly traded agricultural products (others include grains and meat), making this trade one of crucial importance for many countries, either through production or utilization (Krugman,2009). Based on that, since 2008 the government has issued a policy of imposing taxes on palm oil and its derivatives with the aim of ensuring domestic availability and to encourage the growth of the national industry. This study examines the impact of the imposition of export tax policies on the export performance of palm oil and its derivatives. We use panel data on exports of palm oil products and their derivatives to 10 main export destination countries during 2008 – 2021 period using Poisson Pseudo Maximum Likelihood (PPML) estimation method. The estimation results show that export taxes imposed on palm oil derivative products had a significant negative impact, while high export tax policy on the upstream sector (input) for palm oil effectively encouraged an increase in palm oil derivative exports through the availability of cheap palm oil as input for the palm oil industry.

Abstract

Growth in household consumption in Indonesia has tended to decline over the past few years, which can disrupt Indonesia's economic growth. This study aims to analyze the effect of layoffs, income, population and home ownership on household consumption in Indonesia. The research method used is the 2018-2020 panel data regression model with the FEM technique. The results of this study indicate that the variables of layoffs and income have an effect on household consumption in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the variables number of population and percentage of own home ownership have no effect on household consumption in Indonesia. The coefficient of determination is 0.982772, meaning that the variables of layoffs, wages, population and PKRS can simultaneously explain 98.27% of household consumption, while the remaining 1.73% is explained by other variables outside the model. There needs to be special attention from the Government regarding the large number of layoff cases, providing assistance in the form of capital assistance funds, equal access to job training programs for all people, especially those of productive age, to reduce the impact of layoffs which then does not cause permanent unemployment.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the sigma and beta convergence of GRDP per capita, analyze the effect of Local Revenue (PAD), Human Development Index, working workforce, minimum wage, and industry on income per capita in West Java 2017-2021. The data used are secondary data from BPS. The analytical of sigma convergence uses coefficient of variation of GRDP per capita and panel data regression for beta convergence analysis with the best model being the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) Generalized Least Square (GLS) method. The results of this study indicate that there is a convergence of sigma GRDP per capita between districts / cities of West Java in 2017-2021, but general there is no absolute beta convergence or conditional beta. This means that income inequality between regions in West Java has decreased during 2017-2021, but developing regions have not been able to increase high economic growth compared to developed regions, resulting in divergence. The PAD and HDI have a positive effect on GRDP per capita. Minimum wage and industry have a negative effect. Meanwhile, the labor force that works has no effect on GRDP per capita.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the short-term and long-term effects of socio-economic indicators on the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia in 2018-2022. The estimation used to analyze the spatial dynamic panel data model in this study is the Generalized Method of Moment (GMM). Based on the results of the analysis, the variables that have a significant positive effect on the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia are GRDP per capita and poverty, while the variables of literacy, sanitation and HDI have a negative effect on the prevalence of stunting. Although the effect of GRDP per capita on stunting is weak, if followed by low poverty, increasing literacy spirit, awareness of the importance of sanitation and the continued growth of Indonesia's human development index, it is hoped that every household can provide the nutritional needs of toddlers to quickly reduce the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia.
