Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of implementing a collaborative learning model on the learning independence of prospective science teachers in developing learning materials. This study employs a quasi-experimental design with a mixed-methods approach, utilizing a posttest-only non-equivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of 34 prospective science teachers selected from one of the state universities in Indonesia and divided into two groups: the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class received treatment through the implementation of a collaborative learning model, while the control class used a regular learning model. Data were collected using a learning independence score instrument, student reflection journals, and observation sheets to assess the implementation of the learning model. Analysis of the questionnaire data began with conducting validity and reliability tests to evaluate the Learning Independence Questionnaire, followed by normality and homogeneity tests on the Learning Independence data between the experimental and control classes. Hypothesis testing was conducted using an independent t-test. The results of the validity and reliability tests indicate that the Learning Independence Questionnaire is suitable for use. The results of the hypothesis test suggest that implementing a collaborative learning model can enhance the learning independence of prospective science teachers in developing learning materials. In addition, based on the reflection journal and observation sheet, it is also evident that the experimental class had better development of learning media results compared to the control class.

Abstract

Writing is one of the most challenging skills for students learning English as a foreign language, especially in composing well-organized and meaningful texts such as recounts. Many students face difficulties in generating ideas, applying correct grammar, and expressing experiences coherently. This classroom-based activity was implemented at Al Falah Silo High School, Jember, in 2025 for 30 tenth-grade students to address these challenges. The main objective was to improve students' writing skills, particularly in writing recount texts, through the use of personal diary writing. The method used in this program was a process-based writing approach combined with reflective learning. During eight weekly sessions, students were guided to write diary entries recounting their personal experiences, following the structure of orientation, sequence of events, and reorientation. The teacher provided ongoing feedback and encouraged peer reflection to support the writing process. The results showed a significant improvement in students' ability to write coherent and well-structured recount paragraphs. Students also reported increased confidence, motivation, and enthusiasm in expressing their ideas through writing. This activity concludes that journaling can be an effective pedagogical tool for improving students' writing performance while fostering independence and self-expression in the context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL).

Abstract

The teaching and learning process is an activity that must be supported from all aspects. It is not only about the teaching methods that are taken into account, but also about the learning media used. Learning media plays an important role in the teaching and learning process to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the ongoing learning. With the use of learning media, students can understand material from abstract to concrete, increase their interest in learning, and help make the teaching and learning atmosphere enjoyable. Observations show that the researcher will develop Nopobegama media due to the limitations of existing learning media in schools, especially at the fourth-grade level of elementary schools. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D). The techniques involve questionnaires, interviews, and documentation sheets. This study employs both qualitative and quantitative research. The result is the development of the nopobugama media with the material of cultural diversity in 4th grade based on games. The results of the feasibility test on the material were 75%, media expert 95%, small group trial 91%, and large group trial 98%. Therefore, the use of this learning media is declared very feasible to be applied in the learning process.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to reveal the portrayal of women in social reality which has so far been exalting the power of men. How women are depicted as inferior and powerless creatures if there is no protection from men will be shown in the novel entitled Women Who Cry to the Black Moon. So that the focus of the problem that will be raised in this study is about how the depiction of women in Dian Purnomo's novel Perempuan Yang Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam is portrayed. This novel tells the story of a woman's struggle against the discrimination she has received as a woman. Discrimination received by female marshal figures from the Kawin Tangkap custom which refers to kidnapping and rape. Where this is very demeaning to women's dignity and greatly discriminates against the existence of women as creatures who are free of will and power. Women in this novel are trying to be subdued by the superiority of the existence of men, even though in the end the woman as the main character in this work shows the result of how to seize the freedom that has been forcibly taken away by men. Qualitative method is used as an analytical method in the process of data collection and analysis. In addition, several findings were made about how women are depicted in the novel, among others, women are depicted as humans who are physically weak; Second, women are depicted as creatures who have no power; Third, women are depicted as human beings who must accept all decisions without objection; Fourth, women are depicted as submissive who have to accept decisions just because they are women; Fifth, women are described as having to struggle even though their struggles do not necessarily get a lot of support. So it can be concluded from the five depictions of women in the novel Perempuan Menangis Kepada Bulan Hitam that women in society are still depicted as human beings whose existence is confined in the shadows of men, but even so, women should still fight for their rights as free human beings even though it will not be an easy proccess to do.

Abstract

Abstract This study examined the professional experiences, identity negotiations, and pedagogical challenges of non-native English-speaking teachers (NNESTs) in TESOL. It addressed persistent issues of reduced legitimacy and native-speaker bias, while responding to gaps in research on NNESTs’ lived experiences across cultural contexts and their agency in navigating such bias. Using a narrative inquiry approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews and document analysis with two NNESTs teaching in Indonesia and China, and analysed thematically. Findings revealed ongoing challenges related to societal perceptions of proficiency, student preference for native speakers, and limited institutional support. However, participants leveraged their multilingual backgrounds and language-learning experiences to develop culturally responsive strategies that enhanced learner engagement. Despite limited mentorship, both teachers actively pursued professional development. The study highlights NNESTs’ capacity to transform challenges into professional growth and underscores their vital role in bridging linguistic and cultural gaps, calling for more inclusive policies and accessible professional development.

Abstract

Bullying among adolescents can lead to emotional regulation disturbances that negatively impact mental health and social adjustment. Interventions aimed at improving emotional regulation in adolescent victims of bullying include Psychological First Aid (PFA) and psychoeducation. This study aimed to analyze the effects of PFA, psychoeducation, and their combination on the emotional regulation of adolescent bullying victims. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group approach was employed. The sample consisted of 21 respondents divided into three groups (PFA, psychoeducation, and combination), with 7 participants in each group. The interventions were conducted over eight sessions, each lasting 60 minutes. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and Kruskal–Wallis test followed by Post Hoc Mann–Whitney (α < 0.05). The results showed significant improvements in emotional regulation in the PFA group (p = 0.016), psychoeducation group (p = 0.017), and combination group (p = 0.018). The Kruskal–Wallis test indicated significant differences among the three groups (p = 0.001). Post Hoc analysis revealed that the combination of PFA and psychoeducation was more effective than either intervention alone (p = 0.002). In conclusion, all three interventions significantly improved emotional regulation, with the combined intervention being the most effective.
