Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus patients’ awareness of the implementation and compliance with insulin therapy was influenced by several factors that affected treatment success and the risk of complications due to insulin injections. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge regarding insulin injections at Srengat Regional Hospital. The research employed an analytical method with a descriptive approach. The study population consisted of 30 patients with Diabetes Mellitus undergoing insulin injection therapy. The sampling technique used was accidental sampling, resulting in a sample size of 23 patients. The results showed that more than half of the respondents had a good level of knowledge about insulin injections, with 15 respondents (65%) falling into this category. Meanwhile, five respondents (22%) had a moderate level of knowledge, and three respondents (13%) had a low level of knowledge. The level of knowledge significantly influenced patient behavior. Good knowledge of insulin injections was associated with a higher success rate in diabetes mellitus therapy, as it contributed to proper injection practices. This study highlighted the importance of patient and family involvement in the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus, particularly in ensuring correct insulin injection practices.

Abstract

Older adults are individuals aged over 60 years who experience the aging process, which is accompanied by various physical, psychological, and social changes. One of the essential aspects of aging is physical fitness, which refers to the body’s capacity or endurance to carry out daily activities. The Kogerta deep breathing relaxation technique is considered a relevant non-pharmacological intervention to improve the physical fitness of older adults. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Kogerta deep breathing relaxation technique on the physical fitness of elderly individuals. This research employed a pre-experimental design and was conducted at the UPT Pelayanan Sosial Tresna Wredha Blitar in Tulungagung. The population consisted of 77 older adults, from which a sample of 20 participants was selected using purposive sampling. The results showed a decrease in the mean pulse rate from 90.10 to 75.65 beats per minute, and an increase in the mean walking distance from 437.50 to 526.50 meters after the intervention. Statistical analysis revealed a significant effect of the Kogerta deep breathing relaxation technique on physical fitness, with a p-value of .001 (p < .05).These findings suggest that the technique has a positive effect on the physical fitness of older adults. The integration of this relaxation technique into elderly care programs has the potential to enhance the overall quality of life among the aging population. Keywords: older adults, Kogerta deep breathing relaxation, physical fitness

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease with increasing prevalence and is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, especially in the elderly. Low knowledge, unhealthy lifestyles, and suboptimal stress management often lead to uncontrolled hypertension in the community. Housewives have the potential to be empowered as a socio-religious community in efforts to control hypertension. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and independence of subjects in controlling hypertension through health education and the application of complementary lavender aromatherapy therapy. The activity method uses a pretest–posttest design approach without a control group, with housewives as subjects who are members of the Surah Yasin reading group. The sample was taken by accidental sampling, with a total of 50 people. Respondents were given education about hypertension and trained to use lavender aromatherapy provided by the researcher, then their blood pressure was evaluated. The instruments used were questionnaires and sphygmomanometer aneroid. The results of the activity were analyzed descriptively, showing an increase in knowledge in the good category from 26% before the activity to 78% after the activity and a decrease in average systolic blood pressure of 9.36 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure of 5.68 mmHg. This activity shows that a community-based approach through health education and lavender aromatherapy has the potential to support promotive and preventive efforts in controlling hypertension in the community. Keywords: hypertension

Abstract

Malnutrition has remained a public health issue both regionally and globally. This condition resulted from inadequate nutritional intake, both in terms of quality and quantity, as well as health problems that interfered with the absorption and utilization of nutrients. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of swimming intervention and supplementary feeding on the growth of malnourished children in Kepanjenkidul District. The research employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design, conducted in Kepanjenkidul District, Blitar City, from January to March 2025. The sample consisted of 20 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a digital scale, stadiometer, observation forms, and questionnaires. The analysis was carried out using univariate and bivariate methods with a paired t-test statistical analysis. The results of the study showed that there was a difference in growth status before and after the swimming intervention, with a p-value of 0.000. There was no difference in weight before and after the swimming intervention, with a p-value of 0.042. There was a significant difference in the effectiveness of the swimming intervention combined with supplementary feeding, with a p-value of 0.000. This study contributed to the development of knowledge in the field of child health and nutrition and served as a reference for future research regarding interventions for malnourished children.

Abstract

The postpartum period after childbirth is a critical time for women, where perineal wounds are common and can cause discomfort and risk of infection. Food choices play an important role in wound healing, however, some mother avoid consuming meat, fish, and eggs, believing that these food can slow down the healing process. In reality, tissue regeneration requires adequate nutrition, especially protein. This study explored the relationship between the level of knowledge of food choices and the duration of perineal wound healing. A quantitative approach using a descriptive correlation design with a cross-sectional method was used. The sample consisted of postpartum women with perineal wounds at Aura Syifa Kediri Hospital who were selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaire and direct observation and analyzed using the chi-square test to identify the relationship between food choices and perineal wound healing. The results showed that respondents who consumed food rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals healed faster than those who adhered to dietary restrictions. A significant relationship was found between dietary choices and duration of perineal wound healing. A healthy diet is essential to accelerate perineal wound healing, with adequate protein intake helping tissue regeneration. At the same time, consumption of vitamin C and iron support the healing process and boosts the immune system. Therefore, it is important to increase education on balanced nutrition for postpartum women to prevent complications that May hinder recovery. Keywords : Dietary Choices, Perineal Wound, Postpartum

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular illnesses, diabetes, cancer, and chronic respiratory conditions have emerged as a silent epidemic, affecting millions globally and increasingly impacting Filipino communities. This study, titled "The Silent Epidemic: Unmasking Community Risk Factors for Non-Communicable Diseases", aimed to identify and analyze the behavioral, environmental, socioeconomic, and healthcare-related risk factors contributing to the prevalence of NCDs in selected communities within the Cagayan Valley Region. A quantitative descriptive research design was employed, using a structured questionnaire administered to adult residents aged 18 and above through purposive sampling. The instrument gathered data on lifestyle practices, environmental conditions, access to healthcare, and cultural influences. Statistical analysis, including descriptive statistics and chi-square tests, was conducted using SPSS to identify significant trends and associations among variables. Findings revealed that limited access to healthy food options, sedentary lifestyles, economic hardship, and inadequate healthcare access are key contributors to increased NCD risk in the region. Social norms and cultural perceptions were also found to influence individual health behaviors, either promoting or hindering healthy living. The study underscores the urgent need for community-based health education, improved infrastructure, and targeted interventions that address the root causes of NCDs. By highlighting these risk factors, the research aims to support policymakers, health professionals, and community leaders in developing strategies to prevent and reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases in vulnerable populations.
