Abstract

This study aims to understand how the Kediri Regency Government represents local wisdom through the tagline ‘Kediri Berbudaya’ as a destination branding strategy. The approach used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research findings indicate that the tagline “Kediri Berbudaya” serves not only as a regional promotional slogan but has also become a collective symbol that internalises local cultural values into the daily lives of the community. This representation of local wisdom is manifested through visualisation in public spaces, the introduction of traditional regional attire such as Wastra Kediri, Wdihan Kadiri, and Ken Kadiri, and support for interfaith religious activities as concrete expressions of tolerance and social cohesion. The tagline plays a strategic role in strengthening regional identity and fostering a participatory and sustainable cultural narrative amid the tide of modernisation.

Abstract

This study departs from the problem of the blurred boundaries between religion and interpretation, as well as between the sacred and the profane, in line with the development of science. Religion, as something immutable, is often misinterpreted when confronted with human intellectual progress, creating the impression that science competes with or even replaces the role of the sacred. This condition raises a serious question: does religion still have the authority to preserve sacredness, or does science redefine its meaning? The research gap lies in the lack of in-depth studies exploring the dialectical relationship between religion, sacredness, and scientific development. To address this, the study employs a qualitative method with a hermeneutic approach, interpreting religious texts and social phenomena that reflect the shifting meaning of sacred and profane. The findings indicate that sacredness cannot be replaced by science but must serve as the framework for its utilization. The proposed conceptual offer is to reposition science within the corridor of sacredness so that both complement rather than negate each other.

Abstract

In a metropolis like Surabaya, public transportation is a vital component of promoting mobility. The objective of this study is to evaluate the Surabaya City Transportation Agency's initiatives in offering Wira-Wiri public transportation services as a form of public mobility. A qualitative approach is used, with data collected through observation, interviews with Transportation Agency staff and Wira-Wiri passengers, and documentation from numerous sources. According to the study, the Transportation Agency has enhanced its services by adding more fleets, creating and integrating routes between transportation methods, and implementing an integrated ticketing system that is simpler for consumers to use. The primary goal of other policies, such as fair fares and service quality monitoring, is to guarantee passenger comfort and safety. Despite the challenges in tracking implementation, this initiative has greatly improved access to public transportation. This research highlights the need for collaboration between the community, operators, and the government in order to create public transit that is productive, environmentally friendly, and improves the quality of life for Surabaya citizens.

Abstract

One of the MSME-based social communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic is the Gedog batik community in Kerek District, Tuban Regency. However, women in the Gedog batik community continue to face challenges in understanding and interpreting the COVID-19 pandemic. This study analyzes the social construction of women in the batik community during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study employs Peter L. Berger’s social construction theory, utilising a phenomenological approach. Qualitative research methods were employed in this study, utilising observation and in-depth interviews as data collection techniques with 20 research informants. The data analysis technique in this study uses data collection, reduction (data categorization), data visualization, and conclusion. This study found that the interpretation of women in the batik community towards the COVID-19 pandemic has a dichotomy that pretends to be positive and negative aspects. This is due to their subjective experiences with the COVID-19 pandemic and other health policies. In addition, socio-economic background, social environment, and technology adoption are fundamental bases that contribute to forming the social construction of women in the batik community. The social construction of the COVID-19 pandemic also reflects social processes manifested in practical actions, such as affirmation (positive) or resistance (negative).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the implementation of incentives for non-formal religious educators in Bojonegoro Regency, a government policy program for community welfare. This study used a qualitative approach, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that two villages within the same sub-district both have non-formal religious educational institutions. However, one village receives incentives for non-formal religious educators while the other does not, resulting in a disparity in enrollment. However, this difference in enrollment does not diminish the motivation of the religious teachers at both educational institutions, who both teach sincerely to improve the religious knowledge of their students, who are the future of the nation. Robert K. Merton's structural functional theory is used as an analytical tool, explaining two functions: the first is the manifest function, such as the provision of incentives to appreciate educator dedication, improve welfare, and motivate professionalism. The second is the latent function, which is an invisible function, such as increasing community involvement, creating social inequality, and fostering dependence on government assistance.
