Abstract

Abstract

This paper aims to examine the complex interplay between migration, human rights, and security, focusing on the recent trends in state responses to refugee protection and the implications for international human rights standards. A qualitative analysis of current literature, policy documents, and case studies was conducted to assess the evolving political dynamics surrounding migration. The study also evaluates the roles of international organizations, such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in shaping refugee protection norms. Results: The findings reveal a significant rollback in state commitments to refugee protection, driven by rising nationalism and security concerns. This regression has resulted in the implementation of restrictive migration policies that prioritize national interests over humanitarian obligations, leading to increased vulnerability for displaced populations. The analysis highlights the critical role of NGOs and international bodies in advocating for refugee rights, despite facing challenges from state-centric approaches and power imbalances. Conclusions: The paper concludes that addressing the challenges at the intersection of migration, human rights, and security requires a concerted effort among states, civil society, and international organizations. By fostering collaboration and recognizing the human rights implications of migration, it is possible to develop more inclusive and compassionate policies that uphold the dignity and well-being of refugees and asylum seekers in a rapidly changing global context. give a great title for this article

Abstract

Abstract This study explores the critical role of young entrepreneurs in advancing Jakarta’s sustainability objectives and bolstering the resilience of its maritime sector. As Jakarta transitions towards a more sustainable urban model, young entrepreneurs are pivotal in developing green technologies that reduce emissions, enhance operational efficiency, and promote eco-friendly practices, aligning closely with the city's sustainability goals. Their innovations directly address environmental challenges such as pollution and climate risks, fostering a green economy while strengthening the sector's capacity to withstand issues like sea-level rise and extreme weather impacts. By collaborating with government entities, these entrepreneurs amplify their influence, co-creating sustainable solutions that reinforce Jakarta’s economic and environmental resilience. This research highlights the transformative potential of youth-driven entrepreneurship as an essential component in achieving a sustainable, resilient, and future-oriented Jakarta. Abstract

In 2015, French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo became a global symbol of free speech after a deadly attack on its office, following its publication of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad. The Western world rallied around the slogan Je suis Charlie, hailing the magazine as a bastion of comedic defiance against religious extremism. But amid the outpouring of solidarity, a deeper question lingered: Was this truly about defending humor, or was it about reinforcing the idea that some cultures, some religions, are inherently hostile to satire? After all, outrage over religious mockery is hardly exclusive to Islam—Hindu nationalist groups have protested depictions of their gods, and conservative Christians have long decried irreverent portrayals of Jesus. Yet, in public discourse, Islam alone is framed as uniquely humorless, its followers unable—or unwilling—to take a joke.

Abstract

Abstract

This research examines the role of Metro TV media in shaping the political image of Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar for the 2024 Presidential Election. The study focuses on how Surya Paloh, a member of the Democratic National Party (Nasdem), biasedly reported on the candidates, affecting their electability in the 2024 General Election contestation. The research uses a qualitative content analysis method, a systematic approach to understanding and interpreting text data, to identify themes, patterns, and deep meaning. The study uses content analysis techniques to analyze narratives and framing strategies used in YouTube videos, while quantitative data, such as views, likes, dislikes, and comments, is analyzed to understand public sentiment and response to the political actors studied. The research provides a deeper understanding of Metro TV’s media alignment and the construction of the political image of Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar on YouTube, ultimately impacting public perception and increasing their electability in the context of democracy and participation politics in the 2024 presidential election.

Abstract

One of the central issues in participatory democracy discourse concerns how the public perceives electoral integrity and accepts election outcomes. This study investigates the retrospective impact of regime performance and perceptions of electoral bureaucratic professionalism on trust and acceptance of the 2024 Indonesian presidential election results. Employing a quantitative-explanatory design with 250 respondents, data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Findings reveal that retrospective evaluations of government performance—particularly economic—positively and significantly influence both electoral trust and acceptance on result. Meanwhile, bureaucratic professionalism enhances electoral trust but does not directly affect acceptance. Theoretically, this study reinforces Easton’s political system model within an electoral framework and supports Norris’s electoral integrity model, suggesting that both regime performance and bureaucratic professionalism contribute to legitimizing election outcomes through the cultivation of systemic trust.

Abstract

Feminist digital activism has become increasingly vital in confronting gendered repression in online spaces, especially in Indonesia, where state regulation, corporate platform control, and patriarchal norms converge. While prior research has addressed surveillance, algorithmic bias, and legal repression under laws like the Information and Electronic Transactions Law (UU ITE), less is known about how feminist movements in the Global South collectively resist these forces. This study fills that gap through a qualitative-interpretive approach grounded in critical feminist theory and Nancy Fraser’s justice framework—redistribution, recognition, and representation. Drawing on secondary sources including activist publications, academic works, and legal documents, the paper analyzes how Indonesian feminist actors navigate digital criminalization, SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation), and algorithmic exclusion. Findings show that feminist digital activism is not merely reactive but proactive, with strategies ranging from gender-aware digital literacy and legal reform advocacy to transnational solidarity and the development of community-run digital infrastructures. These actions reframe online feminist activism as structural resistance rooted in democratic participation. While limited by the absence of primary ethnographic data, this research offers a critical Global South feminist lens on digital justice and underscores the importance of collective agency in building inclusive and gender-just digital futures.
