Tradition and Modernity of Humanity based at Lembaga Penelitian Universitas Sumatera Utara in Medan, TALENTA Publisher as a publisher and publishing articles in both English and Indonesia, the journal provides a space for innovative theoretical as well as empirical contributions to issues that transcend the framework of the traditional disciplines. Given its international orientation, contributions of a comparative or cross-cultural nature are particularly welcome. Focus and Scope Tradition and Modernity of Humanity for the analysis and debate of trends and approaches in social science research. Tradition and Modernity of Humanity is an interdisciplinary journal with strong bases in some areas of the disciplines of linguistics,, anthropology, sociology, history, and economics, and to some extent of psychology, philosophy, and political science. Contributions are welcome from all of these disciplines, but in particular when they address challenging and comprehensive issues in the analysis of major social transformations and promote innovative conceptual approaches.

Abstract

The existence of the Bah Bolon River is related to the surrounding community. This study was diachronic research on the history and dynamics of the Bah Bolon River from 1980-2023. Bah Bolon River is related to environmental, social and economic changes in terms of river pollution. This study aimed to invent information on the condition of the Bah Bolon River in Pematang Siantar City, North Sumatra in 1980-2023 with a focus on pollution of the Bah Bolon River and its use for the surrounding community. The method used was a historical method which consists of four stages, namely heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data collection was carried out through a literature review and in-depth interviews. Literature data was taken from official documents and articles regarding the Bah Bolon River from 1980-2023. In-depth interviews were conducted with informants who met the criteria of (1) full enculturation; (2) direct involvement; (3) unfamiliar cultural atmosphere; (4) sufficient time; and (5) non-analytic. The chronological analysis carried out includes the transformation of river flows, the use of water resources, and their impact on the lives of local communities. The results showed that there were changes in land use, social structure, and community economy over time. These findings contribute to a deep understanding of the dynamics of the Bah Bolon River in the 1980s, creating a foundation for evaluating the impact of environmental change on human life. The results of this research contribute to the understanding of environmental history, social change, and community adaptation to ecological change. The implications of this research can be used as a basis for future environmental conservation and water resource management policies while exploring the historical and heritage value of the Bah Bolon River.

Abstract

Local Wisdom Kenduri Blang is a traditional ceremony of the Acehnese people carried out by descending into the rice fields. The local wisdom of Kenduri Blang has several values and rules that function to maintain and care for the preservation of nature through its plants. The functional structural perspective in this study is used to see the function of the local wisdom of Kenduri Blang in maintaining environmental sustainability carried out by the Acehnese people in Indonesia This research uses a literature study method with secondary data sources, namely books, previous studies, and studies that have been conducted. Data collection techniques are carried out through information collection, research that has been done, and previous studies. Data analysis techniques use a functional structural perspective and an ecological balance paradigm. The results of this study show that there are two customary processes in the local wisdom of Kenduri Blang which shows a good relationship between the people of Aceh and their environment. Local Wisdom Kenduri Blang illustrates this good relationship through traditional processions that oblige people to preserve rice fields before enjoying the harvest.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate and describe the implementation of human capital management through the Sharia Economist Training (SET) event to create human capital management in organizations so that they have high motivation in organizational activities. The focus of the research is on human capital management in the form of Individual Capability, Individual Motivation, Leadership, Organizational Climate and Workgroup Effectiveness. This research is research that uses a qualitative paradigm with descriptive qualitative methods. Data was collected through interviews and participant observations carried out by researchers when holding the SET event. Data was analyzed using SWOT analysis to determine the implementation of human capital management at an event. The research results show that the implementation of human capital management in the SET event can improve skills and performance for growth and development in organizations. USU's SET event has fulfilled several components of human capital management. There are also shortcomings in the publication and documentation division and the Daily Management Body (BPH) division which will later be re-evaluated for the next event. It can be concluded that implementing human capital management in an event is very important for the success and smooth running of the event.

Abstract

Bapokat is a tradition that is still carried out today by the Minangkabau ethnic in Batahan. However, Bapokat in Batahan has several differences from that of the Minangkabau ethnic in West Sumatra, so of course the values contained in it are different. This research aims to determine the Bapokat tradition carried out by the Minangkabau ethnic who live in Batahan. This research uses an anthropolinguistic approach with qualitative methods. The data obtained is in the form of answers to the researcher's questions. From this research it can be concluded that the Bapokat tradition still exists in the Minangkabau ethnic in Batahan.

Abstract

The research was conducted to demonstrate Indonesian language pride on the Kimbab Family YouTube channel. The purpose of this study is to examine how an Indonesian-Korean multicultural family uses Indonesian in regular discourse on YouTube. To promote Indonesia as the nation's identity overseas, advanced technologies must be utilized. YouTube is one of these numerous virtual platforms that attract users from all around the world. This situation encourages Indonesian to compete with other languages; therefore, efforts to promote and preserve Indonesian must be supported. The data for this descriptive qualitative study was collected through documentation and listening. The data were YouTube comments from the Kimbab Family channel. According to the results of this study, the Kimbab family is proud of their Indonesian language skills. The Indonesian employed on the YouTube channel of Kimbab Family may be categorized into eight categories: questioning, replying, explaining/informing, inviting, demanding, quizzing, promoting, and joking.
