Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of double standards in hate comments against K-POP artists found on Instagram. This research utilized a descriptive qualitative approach, which refers to research methods that produce descriptive data using pragmatics approach. The data were collected from the most followed K-POP pages on Instagram in Indonesia: @fyi.korea, @officialkvibes, and @coppamagz. The objects of this study include hate comments found on these Instagram pages. Based on the results of observations on these pages, it was found that some of the data included hate comments aimed at several K-Pop idols. The results of the study indicate that the topics that receive the most hate comments are related to dating scandals, the sexy appearance of K-POP artists, and also the physical appearance and visual aspects. Based on the result, the double standards towards the involved K-POP artists are glaringly evident. It can be concluded that there are two major factors contributing to these double standards: gender and popularity. In terms of gender, female K-POP artists are more frequently criticized and receive hate comments compared to their male counterparts. Meanwhile, in terms of popularity, K-POP artists with higher popularity levels tend to receive hate comments more often than those who are not as popular. Abstract

Researchers can learn a lot about a culture's values, beliefs, and fears by looking at the things that people don't do. What a culture thinks is holy, dangerous, or rude can be shown by taboos. This can help us figure out how societies work and how they've changed over time. This article analyzes the use of taboos in the daily communication of the people of East Java, particularly adolescents. Rural and urban Javanese have differing perspectives on the usage of taboo language, respectively. This study intends to examine the opposition of views between rural and urban Javanese individuals who use taboo language to communicate, as well as the types of taboo words typically employed by Javanese people. The type of data obtained from the study is qualitative, thus the data that will be reported in this study will be in the context of the usage of taboo language by rural, urban, and East Java Province-dwelling Javanese. The data was also collected by Interviews: Talking to people from a wide range of backgrounds in depth. Ask them open-ended questions about how they feel about banned words when they're used, and how they make them feel. Since rural Javanese continue to use language and manners, their perspectives on taboo language analysis differ from those in urban areas. The East Javanese believe that profanity and restricted language should not be utilized in speech and social interactions.

Abstract

The "Temu Manten" tradition is a Javanese tradition, one of which is practiced in the Simalungun Regency. This tradition is usually followed when someone wants to marry off their son or daughter. "Temu Manten" is also often referred to as the "Panggih Ceremony," which means the ceremony of the meeting of the prospective groom and bride at the bride's residence. The research aims to describe the values embedded in the traditional Javanese culture of "Temu Manten" in the Simalungun Regency. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive research method. Data collection involved face-to-face interviews with cultural experts and wedding guides at several pavilions in the Simalungun Regency, as well as online interviews. The study's results show that in the implementation of the "Temu Manten" tradition in the Simalungun Regency, there are several processes such as "Tukar Kembar Sanggan" and "Mayang," "Balangan Gantal," "Ranupada," "Sinduran," "Pangkon Timbang," "Kacar Kucur," "Dulangan," "Mapag Besan," and "Sungkem." However, before these sequences are carried out, several preliminary processes must be performed, such as "Bedol Kembar Mayang," which is the process of throwing the "Mayang Kembar" on the roof of the house, symbolizing the return of plants from heaven to the gods. Each step of the "Temu Manten" ceremony has its own meaning, which is a prayer for the newlyweds. The survey results above can be concluded that the betrothal ceremony in the Simalungun Regency has distinctive characteristics. In this region, the betrothal ceremony involves a unique "bodol kembar mayang" ritual, which is used as a symbol of the return of sacred plants to the gods or as an expression of gratitude to the Creator. Additionally, it marks the first meeting of the bride and groom through the "Bubak Kawah" marriage, signifying the first child-in-law or the final closing of the in-law relationship. Keyword: Marriage, Temu Manten, Cultural Values
