Abstract

Emotional intelligence is a critical factor that determines students' success in coping with academic pressure, building social relationships, and managing themselves healthily. This study aims to describe the emotional intelligence of eleventh-grade (XI B) students at MA Darun Najah Bangun Jaya, Ogan Ilir, and to analyze the implementation of classical counseling services using the storytelling method to develop students' emotional intelligence. This study employed a qualitative field research approach, with data collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies conducted across four meetings involving 21 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was examined through source and technique triangulation. The results indicate that before the intervention, students' emotional intelligence in the aspects of self-emotion recognition, emotion management, self-motivation, empathy, and social relationship building was underdeveloped, characterized by high temperament, anxiety, and difficulty managing interpersonal conflict. The implementation of classical counseling with the storytelling method was carried out through seven stages: the initial stage, needs identification, method determination, service delivery, counseling preparation, tool/media preparation, and outcome evaluation. Following the intervention, students demonstrated improved emotional self-awareness and regulation, more stable self-motivation, and more effective social relationship skills. This study implies the importance of integrating the storytelling method, particularly Qur'anic narratives, as a contextual classical counseling strategy aligned with Islamic values in the madrasah environment.

Abstract

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder among adolescents, often triggered by psychological pressure, parent–child conflict, and unhealthy lifestyle habits. This study aims to describe the experience of insomnia among adolescents in Suka Mulya Village and to analyze the implementation of individual counseling using relaxation techniques in addressing it. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving four adolescent subjects. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that insomnia among the four subjects was influenced by psychological factors (pressure and conflict with parents), lifestyle factors (caffeine consumption and late-night habits), and environmental factors (noise disturbance around their residence). The implementation of individual counseling with relaxation techniques produced positive outcomes, reflected in the counselees' enthusiasm during the counseling process and improvements in sleep patterns, overall health condition, and reduced difficulty initiating sleep at night. These findings are consistent with previous studies demonstrating the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral approaches and relaxation techniques in managing insomnia among adolescent populations.

Abstract

Self-injury, or non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), is the deliberate act of harming one's own body without suicidal intent, typically performed to relieve overwhelming emotional distress. National survey data indicate that self-injurious behavior remains prevalent among Indonesian youth, underscoring the urgency of culturally grounded interventions. This study examines how Islamic counseling through literacy of Qur'anic verses can be used to address self-injury in client M, a young woman who engaged in repeated self-harming behaviors such as cutting, head-banging, and hair-pulling. The study aims to (1) describe the pattern of self-injury exhibited by client 'M' and (2) examine how Islamic counseling through Qur'anic literacy contributed to reducing this behavior. A qualitative case study design was employed, following Yin's approach to single-case research. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using pattern matching, explanation building, and time-series analysis, with triangulation used to strengthen data trustworthiness. The intervention consisted of five structured counseling sessions in which the client was guided to read, comprehend, and internalize (tadabbur) selected Qur'anic verses related to self-preservation and patience (sabr). The findings show that client 'M' exhibited several indicators consistent with established NSSI typologies, including difficulty regulating emotion, low self-esteem, rigid thinking patterns, and fear of change. Following the five counseling sessions, the client demonstrated a shift toward more positive affect, a greater sense of religious meaning, increased self-awareness regarding the religious prohibition against self-harm, and a stated commitment to reducing self-injurious behavior. These outcomes are consistent with prior research suggesting that Qur'an-based spiritual interventions can support emotion regulation and reduce psychological distress. The study suggests that Islamic counseling rooted in Qur'anic literacy offers a culturally and spiritually congruent complement to conventional self-injury interventions, particularly for Muslim clients.

Abstract

Inner peace plays a crucial role in the lives of students (santri) at Islamic boarding schools, since without it, the educational process and social interaction may be significantly disrupted. A lack of inner peace among santri can be triggered by dissatisfaction with oneself, negative thinking patterns, difficulty expressing emotions, and social pressure arising from adaptation to a new environment. This study aims to determine the effect of group counseling services using the dhikr method on increasing the inner peace of santri at Al-Ittifaqiah Islamic Boarding School, Indralaya. The study employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design involving 27 santri. The multiple linear regression analysis showed that the dhikr method (X) contributed 72% to santri's inner peace (Y), while the remaining 28% was influenced by other variables outside this study. The hypothesis test (independent sample t-test) yielded a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It is concluded that group counseling through the dhikr method is effective in enhancing santri's inner peace, reinforcing prior findings that Islamic spiritual approaches, including dhikr, play a significant role in community-based mental health interventions.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the self-adjustment of individuals with physical disabilities at Sentra Budi Perkasa Palembang and to examine how group counseling can be applied to improve their self-adjustment. A qualitative field-research approach was employed, with data collected through observation, group counseling sessions, in-depth interviews with a social worker and individuals with physical disabilities, and documentation review. The research subjects consisted of one social worker and five individuals with physical disabilities. Data were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings indicate that the subjects showed low levels of self-adjustment on the personal dimension, characterized by limited self-acceptance, difficulty in emotional regulation, and the absence of clear life goals, as well as on the social dimension, marked by limited interaction, low empathy, and minimal group participation. Group counseling was implemented through four stages—forming, transition, working, and termination—and proved effective in improving both the personal and social self-adjustment of individuals with physical disabilities. These findings support the growing body of evidence that structured, group-based psychosocial interventions are a viable strategy for supporting adjustment among individuals with disabilities.

Abstract

The contemporary ecological crisis demands the strengthening ofzmoral and spiritual awareness through Islamic education. This study aims to reconstruct ecological morality in madrasas through an Islamic Guidance and Counseling approach supported by the Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) cooperative learning model. The study used a qualitative field approach involving Guidance and Counseling teachers and students as research subjects. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using an interactive model and drawing conclusions and tested through triangulation of sources and techniques. Implementation was carried out by integrating reflective counseling services based on the values of monotheism, trustworthiness, and ecological responsibility into STAD learning through heterogeneous groups, collaborative discussions, internalization of ecotheological values, and environmental project assignments. The results of the study indicate that the integration of an ecotheological perspective in Islamic Guidance and Counseling services through the STAD model effectively increases students' religious-ecological awareness, strengthens environmental responsibility, and fosters collaborative behavior in maintaining the sustainability of the madrasa environment. This research makes a practical contribution to the development of a systematic and sustainable ecological character development strategy in madrasas.

Abstract

Psychosocial issues such as loneliness, anxiety, and depression are major challenges for the elderly living in nursing homes due to the loss of family support. This study aims to analyze the role of spiritual support in addressing psychosocial problems among the elderly at the Tresna Werdha Social Home (PSTW) in Bengkulu City. The research method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation of informants selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that spiritual support, both in the form of communal religious rituals and internal spiritual coping, acts as an emotional anchor that strengthens the resilience of the elderly. This support effectively reduces feelings of isolation and death anxiety by providing a new framework for meaning in life. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that the integration of spiritual support in nursing home management is crucial for maintaining the psychosocial stability of the elderly. It is recommended that the social home develop more personalized and sustainable spiritual guidance programs.

Abstract

Career decision making is an important developmental task for high school students, especially 12ᵗʰ-grade students preparing for future education and career pathways. However, many students still experience confusion in choosing suitable majors and career directions. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-efficacy and conformity with career decision-making among high school students. A quantitative correlational method was employed, with career decision making as the dependent variable, while self-efficacy and conformity served as independent variables. The participants were 177 twelfth-grade students from SMA Negeri 2 Kudus selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using career decision-making, self-efficacy, and conformity scales, then analyzed using two-predictor regression and product-moment correlation. The findings revealed a highly significant relationship between self-efficacy, conformity, and career decision making (R = 0.712; p < 0.001), contributing effectively by 50.6%. Self-efficacy showed a positive and highly significant relationship with career decision making (r = 0.711; p < 0.001), whereas conformity was not significantly related to career decision making (r = -0.102; p = 0.178). These findings highlight the importance of enhancing students’ self-efficacy through career guidance services to support career decision-making and strengthen career information and exploration services.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the process of reconstructing the meaning of life among elderly individuals with a history of family rejection at the Panti Pelayanan Sosial Dewanata Cilacap. This research employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method to understand the subjective experiences of the elderly after experiencing family rejection. The informants consisted of three elderly residents and one social worker. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with source triangulation used to ensure data validity. The findings revealed that family rejection, including emotional neglect, family conflict, verbal abuse, and lack of attention, caused psychological impacts such as sadness, loneliness, anxiety, insecurity, and a crisis in the meaning of life. Initially, the elderly experienced difficulties adapting to life in the nursing home and tended to withdraw socially. However, over time, they gradually reconstructed the meaning of life through self-acceptance, social support, social worker assistance, social activities, and spirituality. Spirituality became the most dominant factor in helping the elderly achieve inner peace, gratitude, and acceptance of their life experiences.

Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) not only serves to meet students' nutritional needs but also plays a strategic role in shaping school culture and internalizing the values of virtue. This research aims to examine the role of school culture in supporting the internalization of virtue values through the implementation of the MBG Program, as well as understanding the development of civilized behavior among students. The research uses a qualitative approach with phenomenological methods to explore the experiences and meanings of education actors, including principals, teachers, program managers, school committees, and students at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels in West Java Province. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation studies, then validated through triangulation of sources and techniques. Data analysis employs a phenomenological approach with stages of data reduction, theme encoding, grouping essential meanings, data presentation, and interpretation of participants' experiences. The results of the study show that the MBG Program contributes to the formation of civilized behavior through habituation, example, and strengthening of social norms that are integrated in school culture. Developed virtue values include discipline, responsibility, gratitude, social care, cleanliness, politeness, and respect for food and the environment. Practices such as praying before and after meals, queuing in an orderly manner, eating food according to portions, maintaining a clean dining area, managing waste responsibly, and teacher examples have been proven to strengthen the internalization of these values. The MBG program also encourages the development of students' cognitive, affective, psychomotor, and spiritual aspects in an integrated manner. These findings confirm that the MBG Program has the potential to be an effective means of character education through strengthening school culture and habituating virtue values in students' daily lives.
