Abstract

This study aims to develop an educational media game called Emo Path for use in group counseling to help flood survivor students express their emotions. The study is motivated by findings showing that students affected by floods often have difficulty expressing emotions such as fear, sadness, anxiety, and trauma due to disaster-related experiences. This research uses a Research and Development (R&D) Level 1 approach with a 4D development model, limited to the define, design, and develop stages. The study was carried out at UPT SMP Negeri 17 Medan, involving 18 flood survivor students from grades VII, VIII, and IX, selected through purposive sampling. Data was collected through a needs analysis questionnaire, validation instruments from content and media experts, and a student response questionnaire. The data was analyzed using quantitative and qualitative descriptive techniques with a Likert scale. The needs analysis results showed that students really need game-based educational media in group counseling services, with agreement percentages ranging from 61.1% to 72.2%. The content expert validation scored 93.2%, while the media expert validation reached 94.2%, both of which fall into the very feasible category. Meanwhile, the practicality test conducted on students scored 87.8%, indicating that the media is very practical to use. The research findings show that the Emo Path Game is a feasible and practical tool to use in group counseling services to help student flood survivors express their emotions more openly, safely, and adaptively. The novelty of this study lies in the development of an educational game specifically designed based on the emotional experiences of student flood survivors, as well as in the integration of event cards, emotion expression cards, and value reflection cards into a unified counseling game framework.

Abstract

The phenomenon of career transition to the teaching profession through the Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG) is increasingly found among young adults who previously worked in non-educational sectors. This phenomenon is interesting to study because the decision is not always based on economic considerations, but is often related to the search for work meaning and the appreciation of vocational calling. This study aims to understand in depth the process of vocational calling in young adults who choose to transition to teaching through the PPG program. The study used a qualitative approach with an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) design. The study participants were 4 (four) early adults aged 23–35 who were currently attending PPG at the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra and had at least one year of work experience outside the teaching profession. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews and analyzed using phenomenological procedures, including bracketing, horizontalization, theme grouping, and synthesis of the meaning of experiences. The research results identified five main themes, namely (1) existential dissonance in previous jobs, (2) critical moments as triggers for career transitions, (3) calling from external-transcendental sources, (4) reorientation of professional identity, and (5) the meaning of the teaching profession as a social contribution and self-actualization. The findings indicate that vocational calling develops as a dynamic psychological process through interactions among value incongruence with previous jobs, meaningful reflective experiences, social support, and the reconstruction of professional identity during PPG. This research broadens the understanding of vocational calling in the context of career transitions. It provides implications for career counseling services in helping individuals find jobs that align with their identity, values, and life goals.

Abstract

Career planning is an individual's ability to understand oneself, understand career-related information, and plan future goals to achieve the desired career outcomes. One factor associated with career planning is self-efficacy, which refers to an individual's belief in their ability to organize and perform actions required to achieve specific goals. This study aimed to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and career planning among students at SMA Negeri 2 Padang. This research employed a quantitative correlational approach. The population consisted of 388 eleventh-grade students, and 197 students were selected as the sample using proportional random sampling. Data were collected using self-efficacy and career planning questionnaires based on the theories of Bandura and Winkel & Hastuti. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Spearman Rank correlation test. The findings revealed that students' career planning was in the high category (74.3%) and self-efficacy was also in the high category (72.6%). The Spearman Rank correlation analysis showed a correlation coefficient of 0.739 with a significance value of p < 0.001. These results indicate a positive and significant relationship between self-efficacy and career planning. The higher the students' self-efficacy, the better their career planning.

Abstract

Deep learning is gaining increasing attention in educational transformation due to its role in developing critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and 21st-century competencies. Indonesia, through its Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka), and Finland, through its education system, both implement learning oriented toward deep understanding, but with different characteristics. This study aims to compare the characteristics of deep learning in the Indonesian Independent Curriculum and the Finnish education system. The study used the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by reviewing 12 articles obtained from Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and ERIC according to established inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results show that deep learning in the Independent Curriculum is characterized by student-centered learning, meaningful learning, contextual learning, critical thinking, problem-solving, reflection, and authentic assessment. Meanwhile, the Finnish education system emphasizes phenomenon-based learning, interdisciplinary learning, collaboration, scientific reasoning, and experiential learning. Both systems share similarities in developing 21st-century competencies, but differ in their implementation approaches. The findings of this study provide implications that strengthening phenomenon-based learning and cross-disciplinary integration can be alternative strategies to strengthen the implementation of in-depth learning in the Independent Curriculum.
