Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of group guidance using the storytelling method in fostering prosocial behavior among early childhood students at RA Al-Fatih Palembang. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of 10 children in class B1, selected through purposive sampling. The study focused on key indicators of prosocial behavior, including sharing, helping others, and apologizing. The findings revealed that before the intervention, children tended to display egocentric behaviors, such as unwillingness to share, competition over toys, and a lack of concern for peers. However, after participating in six sessions of group guidance integrated with storytelling, significant positive behavioral changes were observed. Children demonstrated increased willingness to share, help others, express empathy, and resolve conflicts by apologizing and forgiving peers. The storytelling method proved to be an effective and engaging approach in facilitating the internalization of moral values through narrative experiences. It not only enhanced children's understanding of prosocial concepts but also promoted the application of these values in their daily social interactions. In conclusion, group guidance combined with storytelling is an effective strategy for developing prosocial behavior in early childhood education settings. This study highlights the importance of using creative, interactive, and value-based approaches in counseling services to support children's social and emotional development.

Abstract

This study, titled "Individual Counseling with Role Play Techniques to Overcome Children's Aggressive Behavior," aims to identify, describe, and evaluate the effectiveness of individual counseling using role play techniques in overcoming children's aggressive behavior. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. Data were analyzed using pattern matching, explanation building, and time-series analysis. The results indicate that the client was able to identify sources of anger, express emotions in a more controlled manner, and adopt more adaptive alternative behaviors when facing situations that trigger aggression. In addition, the client's daily interactions showed increased patience, improved listening skills, and reduced intensity of conflict with others. These findings are consistent with previous studies confirming the effectiveness of role play and play therapy techniques: in both individual and group settings for reducing aggressive behavior among children and adolescents.

Abstract

This study, titled Implementation of Video-Assisted Information Services to Enhance Self-Actualization in Utilizing Leisure Time Among UIN Raden Fatah Palembang Students, was motivated by the low awareness among final-semester students in using their leisure time productively. This study aims to describe self-actualization in the utilization of leisure time among 2021-cohort Guidance and Counseling (BPI) students of the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication, and to examine how video-assisted classical information services can enhance that self-actualization. A qualitative field-research approach was employed. Data were collected through observation, classical counseling sessions, and in-depth interviews with 15 final-semester BPI students, and were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification, with credibility established through source and technique triangulation. The findings show that video-assisted information services increased students' awareness of the importance of self-actualization and encouraged them to use their free time for beneficial activities such as independent learning, skill development, and building positive social relationships. The intervention was implemented in four stages across four sessions: needs identification and planning, service delivery, evaluation, and follow-up/reinforcement. These findings extend prior evidence on video-assisted counseling and leisure education by demonstrating their applicability to self-actualization among Indonesian university students.

Abstract

This research aims to produce a prophetic value-based guidance and counseling module as a guidance and counseling medium to implement the program of the seven habits of great Indonesian children at the junior high school level. Although character-strengthening policies have been widely promoted, no guidance and counseling module has yet been specifically designed to integrate the recently launched Seven Habits of Great Indonesian Children movement with prophetic values at the junior high school level; this gap constitutes the novelty of the present study. The research uses development research with the ADDIE model (Branch, 2009), which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects of the study were nine (n = 9) junior high school guidance and counseling teachers in Metro City representing State, religious-based, and public junior high schools, together with three experts in guidance and counseling, design, and language. Data were collected through validation and practicality questionnaires using a four-point Likert scale and analyzed using quantitative descriptive techniques. The results show that the prophetic-based module obtained a very feasible category (mean = 3.62; 90.42%) in the aspects of content, design, and language, and a very practical category (mean = 3.58; 89.40%) for use by guidance and counseling teachers. This study concludes that prophetic-based guidance and counseling modules are suitable for use as practical guides in the implementation of character education through the Seven Habits of Great Indonesian Children.

Abstract

The phenomenon of fatherlessness, or the absence of a father figure in a child's life, has become an increasingly important issue in developmental psychology due to its impact on adolescents' emotional, social, and personality development. This study aims to analyze the psychological effects of fatherlessness and examine its implications for Islamic counseling. Using a qualitative approach, this research employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method on relevant scholarly articles published between 2017 and 2025, retrieved from Google Scholar and SINTA databases through the Publish or Perish application. The findings indicate that the absence of a father significantly contributes to anxiety, low self-esteem, difficulties in interpersonal relationships, and weak self-control among adolescents. However, resilience factors influenced by social support and the internalization of positive values were also identified. Furthermore, Islamic counseling approaches that integrate psychological and spiritual dimensions, such as dhikr and self-reflection, have the potential to support the emotional recovery of fatherless adolescents. This study highlights the importance of developing holistic and integrative counseling services to promote the psychological well-being of fatherless adolescents.

Abstract

Documentary films offer a distinctive window into the psychological suffering that communities endure when their home environments undergo severe and sustained degradation. The documentary Pesta Babi captures how rural communities bear the weight of environmental harm caused by large-scale industrial pig farming. This study analyzes the manifestation of solastalgia and environmental distress as portrayed in the film, employing qualitative content analysis grounded in ecopsychology theory and Albrecht's solastalgia framework. Data were gathered through close observation of visual narratives, dialogue, affective expressions, and symbolic elements, triangulated with secondary sources. Three dominant dimensions of solastalgia emerged from the analysis: first, loss of place attachment, marked by landscape transformation and the erosion of the symbolic meaning communities had woven into their surroundings; second, chronic ecological distress, expressed through persistent anxiety and collective psychological exhaustion; and third, erosion of communal identity, tied to the disappearance of natural resources as both livelihood and anchor of selfhood. The study affirms that documentary film is not merely an advocacy instrument but also a documentation space for collective psychological suffering that warrants serious attention from counseling practitioners. These findings contribute to the development of contextual, community-based, and ecologically grounded eco-counseling within Islamic guidance and counseling in Indonesia.

Abstract

Emotional intelligence is a crucial developmental capacity for junior high school students, as it supports self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, motivation, and positive peer relationships. This study aimed to investigate the contribution of group guidance employing the talking chips technique to the enhancement of students’ emotional intelligence. A quantitative quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design was employed. The participants were 32 eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Comal, consisting of 15 students in the experimental group and 17 students in the control group. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and an emotional intelligence questionnaire developed based on five indicators: recognizing one’s own emotions, managing emotions, motivating oneself, recognizing others’ emotions, and building relationships. The experimental group received five sessions of group guidance using the talking chips technique, while the control group did not receive the same treatment. Data were analyzed using normality testing, paired sample t-test, gain score, and normalized gain (N-gain). The results showed that the mean score of the experimental group increased from 97.53 to 104.73, while the control group increased from 98.63 to 103.71. The experimental group obtained a higher normalized gain percentage (35.67%) than the control group (25.11%). Paired sample t-test indicated a significant improvement within the experimental group (p = .001). However, the independent sample t-test on N-gain scores showed no statistically significant difference between groups (p = .228). The calculated effect size was small (Cohen’s d = 0.44). These findings indicate that group guidance using the talking chips technique contributed positively to the development of students’ emotional intelligence, although the magnitude of improvement remained limited.
