Abstract

Rumination, defined as repetitive thinking about negative emotional experiences, plays a critical role in maintaining psychological distress and shaping individuals’ behavioral patterns. However, prior research has been predominantly quantitative, offering limited insight into the subjective lived experiences of rumination. This study aims to explore individuals' lived experiences of rumination related to past events and to examine its role in shaping recurring life patterns and its implications for personal potential development. A qualitative phenomenological design was employed, involving four purposively selected participants with experiences of rumination. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and field notes, and analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. The findings revealed four major themes: rumination about past trauma, the formation of recurring life patterns, impacts on personal potential, and coping mechanisms. The results indicate that rumination functions as a linking mechanism between past experiences and present responses, forming a maladaptive psychological cycle that sustains negative emotions and constrains individual development. Furthermore, the coping strategies employed by participants were largely insufficient to disrupt this cycle. This study concludes that rumination is a complex phenomenon involving the interaction of cognitive, emotional, and experiential processes, highlighting the need for multidimensional interventions that integrate cognitive, emotional regulation, social, and spiritual components to effectively break recurring patterns and optimize individual potential.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of learning saturation of students in the implementation of the Tahfiz Al-Qur'an program at the Az-Zayadiy Sanggrahan Islamic Boarding School. The research uses a quantitative approach with descriptive methods and survey techniques. The population comprises 268 students, and a sample of 160 students is selected using purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out using a scale questionnaire compiled based on three aspects of learning saturation according to Maslach: emotional fatigue, depersonalization, and decreased personal achievement. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics to find out the general picture of the level of student learning saturation. The results of the study showed that the learning boredom rate of students was in the medium category of 72.74%. Most of the students (67.5%) are in the medium category, while the rest are in the low (16.9%) and high (15.6%) categories. Based on aspect analysis, emotional fatigue becomes a high dimension, followed by a decrease in personal achievement, while depersonalization is at a lower level. The findings of this study confirm the importance of the role of tahfiz supervisors in helping students manage learning boredom through mentoring that not only focuses on memorization achievement, but also pays attention to psychological and spiritual aspects. An approach that integrates emotional support, a variety of learning methods, and the strengthening of spiritual values is expected to help students maintain a balance between learning demands and emotional conditions. The results of this research are expected to be the basis for developing a mentoring strategy that is more responsive to the needs of students in the tahfiz program.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the dynamics of parenting stress and family resilience among parents of children with special needs (CSN) in inclusive schools and special schools (SLB) using a qualitative phenomenological approach. The findings show that stress and resilience emerge simultaneously in parenting experiences. In inclusive schools, stress is mainly related to social acceptance, children’s ability to adapt, and academic and social demands. In contrast, in SLB, stress is more focused on the child’s future independence, economic conditions, and long-term caregiving responsibilities. Resilience among parents in inclusive schools tends to be active, reflected in their involvement in school activities, parenting programs, and communication with teachers. Meanwhile, in SLB, resilience is shown through acceptance, emotional adjustment, and realistic expectations regarding the child’s independence. Theoretically, these findings highlight that parenting stress and resilience are dynamic, contextual, and interconnected processes. Practically, differentiated support services are needed to optimally support parents in each context.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of parenting styles and socioeconomic status on self-confidence and motivation to continue education among school dropouts in Tanjung Steko Village. The research is motivated by persistently high dropout rates and low willingness among children to re-engage in formal education, which are closely associated with parental roles and family economic conditions. A quantitative causal approach was employed, involving 39 school dropouts selected through total sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability and were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results indicate that parenting styles have a significant negative effect on self-confidence because of authoritarian or permissive styles rather than democratic ones. Whereas socioeconomic status has a significant positive effect. Simultaneously, both variables explain 39.1% of the variance in self-confidence and 32.8% of the variance in learning motivation. These findings emphasize that appropriate parenting practices and adequate family economic support play a crucial role in restoring school dropouts’ confidence and motivation to re-enter education.

Abstract

In today's digital era, teenagers are increasingly active in using social media, one of which is Instagram. Teenagers who use Instagram are vulnerable to decreased self-esteem due to social comparison and validation seeking, so they tend to present an ideal and different self to appear attractive. This causes a mismatch between the real self and the self on Instagram, as well as the pressure to always appear perfect. This study aims to analyze the relationship between self-esteem and self-presentation in adolescent Instagram users in Makassar. This study used a quantitative method with 398 adolescents as respondents. The analysis technique used was the Spearman rho correlation test. Based on the results of the data analysis, there was a positive relationship between self-esteem and ideal self, consistent self, and multiple selves, while online presentation preferences were negatively related. This indicates that the higher the level of adolescent self-esteem, the higher the tendency to engage in ideal self, consistent self, and multiple selves on Instagram. However, self-esteem and online presentation preferences had a negative relationship. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of monitoring social media use and strengthening self-esteem so that adolescents are able to understand social pressures on Instagram and present themselves consistently with their personal character.

Abstract

Street children face educational barriers due to socioeconomic pressures, despite parents' positive views of education. This study aims to identify factors inhibiting street children's education, describe parents' efforts to send their children to school, and understand their expectations of sending their children to school. A qualitative approach was applied through a case study design in two street children's families in Makassar City. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations, and analyzed following Creswell's data analysis stages. The results show that educational barriers are divided into two categories: internal barriers in the form of low motivation and interest in learning, while external barriers include family factors, economic factors, distance and access to school, the environment and peers, and the pandemic. Despite these obstacles, parents continue to strive for their children's education through hard work, motivation, adaptation to limitations, communication with schools, and seeking help and support. Parents do this because they hope for a better future for their children, and children will avoid social risks, character development, social capital, and improved family conditions. The implications of this study emphasize the need for policies that are more responsive to the conditions of street children and a more flexible and empathetic learning approach.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the form of dual role conflict, the form of religious coping, and the impact of religious coping on female teachers at UPTD SD Negeri 7 Parepare. The research uses a qualitative approach of phenomenology type to understand the experience of female teachers in carrying out their roles as educators and housewives. The research subjects consisted of four female teachers who were selected purposively. Data collection was carried out through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results of the study showed that dual role conflicts include time-based conflict in the form of difficulty dividing time between work and family, behavior-based conflict in the form of difficulty adjusting professional behavior and domestic roles, and strain-based conflict in the form of physical fatigue and emotional stress due to carrying out two roles simultaneously. The forms of religious coping used include benevolent religious reappraisal, collaborative religious coping, seeking spiritual support, religious purification, and spiritual connection. The impact of religious coping is reduced stress and anxiety, increased self-resilience, emotional regulation, inner peace, and better social relationships. This study shows that religious coping plays an important role in helping female teachers cope with dual role conflicts and maintain psychological well-being. Theoretically, this study expands on the concept of religious coping from Kenneth I. Pargament in the context of female teachers in Indonesia, while practically, this research is relevant because the majority of elementary school teachers in Indonesia are women who are vulnerable to multiple role conflicts.

Abstract

Academic Transition Anxiety (ATA) is a significant psychological phenomenon among new students, particularly in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) environments that require students to adapt to new academic, social, and spiritual systems simultaneously. This study aims to analyze the ATA mitigation strategies based on the Kuliyyatul Mu’allimin al-Islamiyah (KMI) system at the Daarul Huda Banjar Patroman Modern Islamic Boarding School. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation from new students, homeroom teachers, and boarding school administrators. Data analysis employed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña (2014). The results revealed three main mitigation pillars: (1) adaptive curriculum design through the KMI-national dual curriculum with a gradual language scaffolding strategy; (2) a continuous and personalized academic mentoring system through homeroom teachers and evening study programs; and (3) a comprehensive 24-hour dormitory system integrated with a structured orientation program (Khutbatul Arsy). These findings demonstrate that the KMI system functions not only as a pedagogical framework but also as a holistic ecosystem that supports adaptive psychological management for new students. This research contributes to an empirically based model for ATA mitigation within the context of modern Islamic boarding school education that is culturally relevant and contextually appropriate.

Abstract

Gadget addiction among adolescents resulting from excessive use can reduce environmental awareness and impact social interaction. This study aims to analyze the effect of gadget addiction on the social interaction of students at Mranggen 1 Public High School using a quantitative ex-post facto method. Data were collected from 177 respondents using a gadget addiction questionnaire based on the theory of Kwon et al. (2013) and a social interaction questionnaire based on the theory of Sarwono (2010), and were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results showed a correlation coefficient of 0.422 and an R² value of 0.178, indicating that gadget addiction accounts for 17.8% of the variation in social interaction. A calculated F-value of 37.026 with a p-value of 0.000 indicates a significant effect. The regression equation Y = 127.986 − 0.508X indicates that an increase in gadget addiction reduces social interaction by 0.508 points per 1-unit increase.

Abstract

The tradition of studying the interpretation of the Qur'an has long been one of the main foundations of pesantren education. Through this tradition, the scientific heritage of Islam continues to be maintained, as well as a means of shaping the character of the students. However, the presence of the digital era brings new challenges that cannot be ignored, especially changes in learning methods and the rush of religious information that does not always have clear authority. This research aims to describe how the tradition of tafsir study is carried out at Pondok Ahlus Suffah Hidayatullah Balikpapan and how this tradition plays a role in shaping the character of students in the midst of the dynamics of today's digital life. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation at Pondok Ahlus Suffah Hidayatullah Balikpapan. The results of the study show that the Islamic boarding school still maintains the tradition of studying tafsir through routine halaqah, reading the book, and fostering adab. The study of tafsir is not only a space for knowledge transfer, but also a process of instilling Qur'anic values such as discipline, simplicity, and responsibility. On the other hand, Islamic boarding schools respond to digital challenges by strengthening digital literacy, limiting the use of gadgets, and selectively utilizing technology as a complement to learning. The findings of this study confirm that the tradition of interpretation studies remains relevant and plays an important role in shaping the character of students. This tradition has proven to be able to adapt wisely to digital developments without losing the scientific spirit and values inherited from generation to generation.
