Abstract

Mental illness represents a growing global health concern, with increasing prevalence and burden across populations. Timely diagnosis and effective treatment are essential to improving individual health outcomes. In this context, artificial intelligence (AI) offers significant potential through rapid and precise data analysis. This narrative literature review aims to examine the application of AI technologies, specifically natural language processing (NLP), machine learning (ML), and predictive modelling, in the diagnosis and therapy of mental health disorders among adult clinical populations. The review includes twelve peer-reviewed articles indexed in Scopus between 2014 and 2024, selected based on relevance, methodological rigor, and contribution to the field. Findings were organised into three thematic clusters: (1) AI-assisted diagnostic accuracy and predictive modelling (e.g., fMRI-based PTSD prediction, depression detection via multimodal neural networks); (2) AI-enhanced therapeutic delivery and user engagement (e.g., AI-assisted online social therapy, remotely supervised brain stimulation); and (3) ethical, privacy, and implementation challenges (e.g., data bias, lack of transparency, and population representativeness). These technologies show promise in reducing human error and enhancing mental health care delivery; however, persistent challenges include data privacy, ethical considerations, and the need for diverse, large-scale datasets. Future research should focus on developing standardised implementation protocols using frameworks such as PRISMA, ensuring population diversity, and addressing ethical safeguards. Collaboration among mental health professionals, AI technologists, and policymakers is essential to promote safe, effective, and equitable integration of AI in psychological diagnosis and therapy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of social anxiety, the factors that influence it, and its impact on students' ability to build interpersonal relationships in the Islamic Guidance and Counseling Study Program at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra. The study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Participants consisted of eight students aged 19–23 who were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, then analyzed using thematic analysis with triangulation techniques to ensure data validity. The results show that social anxiety is manifested in the form of physiological symptoms (heart racing, sweaty hands, and tense body), cognitive and behavioral symptoms such as fear of negative evaluation, overthinking, low self-confidence, and a tendency to avoid social interactions. Social anxiety is influenced by internal factors, including an introverted personality, insecurity, and low self-efficacy, as well as external factors like adapting to campus life, negative social experiences, and cultural or language barriers. Its impact is seen in students' difficulties in starting interactions, participating in academic activities, and building interpersonal relationships, although most are able to adapt as social support and positive experiences on campus increase. The novelty of this study lies in revealing the contextual form of social anxiety, including cross-cultural communication barriers and anxiety in interactions based on perceived social status, and emphasizing that social anxiety affects the quantity of interactions more than the quality of interpersonal relationships that are successfully built. These findings have implications for developing counseling and guidance services at universities that focus on improving students' communication skills, peer support, and social adaptability.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of understanding students' perceptions of the presence of peers who have narcissistic personality tendencies because it can affect interpersonal relationships and social dynamics in the school environment. This study aims to determine the level of narcissistic personality tendency in peers and describe students' perceptions of the presence of peers with narcissistic personality tendencies in vocational schools in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). The research hypothesis states that students' perception of the presence of peers with narcissistic personality tendencies is in the medium category. The research uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive method. The research sample amounted to 436 vocational school students in DIY who were selected using the cluster random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using the student perception scale and analyzed with descriptive statistics. The results showed that students' perception of the presence of peers with narcissistic personality tendencies was dominated by the medium category, namely 346 students (79.36%), the high category as many as 78 students (17.89%), and the low category as many as 12 students (2.75%). These findings suggest that most students have a fairly objective perception of peers with narcissistic personality tendencies. The results of the research are expected to be the basis for Guidance and Counseling teachers in designing services to improve empathy, social acceptance, and healthy interpersonal relationships in schools.

Abstract

Accessibility barriers remain a major challenge for Deaf Individuals in various aspects of life, including communication, education, public services, and social participation. Limited visual communication support, the lack of sign language interpreters, and low public awareness of Deaf culture often result in discrimination, social exclusion, and psychological distress. This study aims to explore the resilience process of Deaf Individuals in facing accessibility barriers within the Batir Isyarat Banjoemas Community, Banyumas Regency. The research employed a qualitative phenomenological approach involving five Deaf participants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed phenomenologically to identify the essence of participants' lived experiences. The findings reveal that resilience develops through a dynamic interaction between personal, relational, and social factors. Participants experienced communication barriers, limited access to information, and social stigma, which affected their emotional and psychological well-being. However, they demonstrated resilience through persistence, resistance, recovery, adaptation, and transformation. The resilience process was reflected in four major themes: experiences of Deafness and social stigma, psychological struggles, the development of coping strategies and resilience resources, and self-transformation toward identity acceptance and advocacy awareness. The Batir Isyarat Banjoemas Community played a significant role in providing social support, strengthening collective identity, and fostering empowerment among Deaf Individuals. These findings highlight that resilience among Deaf Individuals is not merely an individual capacity but a multisystemic process shaped by interactions with supportive environments.

Abstract

This study aims to deeply understand the anxiety experienced by honorary teachers due to the difference in employment status with civil servant/PPPK teachers at SMK Negeri 4 Medan City. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, which focuses on the subjective experiences of informants. Data was obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. Informants were selected using a purposive sampling technique with the criteria of honorary teachers who are still actively teaching, have at least one year of work experience, and interact directly with civil servant/PPPK teachers. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model which included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The validity of the data was tested through source triangulation and member check. The results showed that the anxiety of honorary teachers has varying degrees, ranging from mild to complex, which are influenced by attachment to the profession and the way individuals interpret working conditions. The main factors that cause anxiety include low welfare, uncertainty of employment status, and social comparison with civil servant/PPPK teachers. The impact of anxiety on performance also varies, where in some conditions anxiety can be a motivation, but in other conditions it can decrease work morale. These findings show that the anxiety of honorary teachers is the result of an interaction between structural, psychological, and social factors, so it requires more comprehensive attention.

Abstract

Grit is a crucial psychological asset for college students facing dynamic academic challenges; however, empirical evidence suggests that many students still exhibit suboptimal levels of grit. This study aims to explore the influence of a growth mindset on grit and to examine the moderating role of gender in this relationship. A quantitative correlational design was used in this study. The sample consisted of 328 undergraduate students in the Faculty of Education and Psychology at Semarang State University, selected using a proportional stratified random sampling method. Data were collected using the Grit Scale (Grit-O) and the Revised Implicit Theories of Intelligence Scale and analyzed using Hayes' PROCESS Model 1. The results indicate that growth mindset significantly and positively predicts students’ grit (β = 0.38, p = 0.01 < 0,05). However, gender does not significantly moderate this relationship (p = 0.73 > 0,05). These findings suggest that the mechanism of a growth mindset in fostering grit is universal and functions similarly for both male and female students. These results imply that university counselors can design inclusive growth mindset interventions to enhance student grit without the need for differentiation based on gender.

Abstract

Reading ability is a fundamental literacy skill that determines students' success in participating in the learning process. However, some lower-grade students continue to experience difficulties in beginning reading, which may hinder their academic development. This study aimed to analyze the forms of reading difficulties and the internal and external factors contributing to reading difficulties among second-grade students at SD IT Tahfizhil Qur'an Yayasan Islamic Center. The study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. The primary participants consisted of six second-grade students identified as experiencing reading difficulties, while supporting informants included the classroom teacher, tahfiz teacher, principal, and students' parents. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, documentation, and reading assessments. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data credibility was ensured through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checking. The findings revealed that students experienced difficulties in recognizing and distinguishing similar letters, combining letters into syllables, reading words fluently and accurately, and comprehending simple texts. Internal factors contributing to these difficulties included low concentration, limited learning motivation, inadequate mastery of letter-sound correspondence, and low self-confidence. External factors comprised limited parental assistance, inadequate reading materials and literacy habits at home, insufficient individual guidance in the classroom, limited variation in instructional media, and a less conducive classroom environment. The study concludes that reading difficulties are multidimensional and require comprehensive interventions through early assessment, systematic beginning-reading instruction, individualized assistance, varied learning media, and collaborative partnerships among teachers, schools, and parents to improve students' foundational literacy skills.

Abstract

Academic procrastination is a common problem among students and may negatively affect their learning process and academic achievement. One of the psychological factors associated with this behavior is fear of failure, which reflects students' concerns about experiencing failure and receiving negative evaluations from others. This study aimed to examine the effect of fear of failure on academic procrastination among students at MTs Nurul Ulum Welahan. A quantitative approach was employed, and the data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The study involved 111 students selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through the Fear of Failure Scale and the Academic Procrastination Scale, both of which met the validity and reliability requirements. The results showed that fear of failure had a positive and significant effect on academic procrastination (B = 0.604; p = 0.000). In addition, fear of failure explained 21.7% of the variance in academic procrastination, while the remaining 78.3% was influenced by other factors not examined in this study. These findings indicate that reducing students' fear of failure is important to help minimize academic procrastination through appropriate school counseling services

Abstract

Children from waste-picker families may have limited access to supplementary learning and supportive developmental environments. This study analyzes the role of ASN Mengajar Aceh in guiding children’s behavior to support the attainment of well-being. A descriptive qualitative design was used, involving semi-structured interviews with seven adult volunteers or administrators and three child participants aged 9–13 years. Adult and child data were analyzed separately using thematic analysis and then compared to identify convergence, divergence, negative cases, and unavailable evidence. The program provided non-formal education through Fun Learning, literacy and numeracy, talent-interest activities, creative business activities, and educational outings. Guidance was integrated into learning through personal, humanistic, and family-like approaches, modeling, habituation, advice, play, practice, and positive reinforcement. Adults perceived indications of improvement in motivation, politeness, discipline, confidence, and basic skills, although one adult reported that behavioral change was not clearly visible. Children described enjoyable activities, positive relationships, creative interests, and diverse aspirations. The program therefore contributes mainly to nonmaterial well-being through education, social attention, creativity, motivation, relationships, and aspirations; improvements in household economic well-being were not established.
