Abstract

The objectives of the research are as follows : (1) To know whether using GIST strategy can improve the reading comprehension at the eighth grade students of SMP Saverius Sragen in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. (2) To know how far the implementation of GIST strategy in teaching and learning reading in narrative text at the eighth grade students of SMP Saverius Sragen in Academic Year 2019/2020. The researcher conducted a Classroom Action Research at the eighth grade students of SMP Saverius Sragen from January to February 2020. The subject of the research was the students of VIII A which consisted of 20 students. The research was concerned on improving students‟ reading comprehension using GIST strategy. It consisted of 2 cycles. Each cycle consisted of two meetings which was 80 minutes for each meeting and every cycle ended by post test. Each cycle had four steps: planning, action, observation and reflection. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation, interview, documentation, and tests(pre-test and post-test). The result of cycle 1 showed that some students had lack of vocabulary and also still had difficulties in finding the main idea, the implicit information and the meaning of difficult words in a text. Therefore, cycle 2 showed that the use of GIST strategy for students had lack of vocabulary and difficulties in finding the main idea could improve the students‟ reading comprehension. The students‟ mean score in pre-test was 50.25, post-test I was 66.75, and post-test II 76.80. Based on the result of the research, it could be concluded that “The use GIST (Generating Interaction between Schema and Text) strategy can improve students‟ reading comprehension in narrative text at the eighth grade students of SMP Saverius Sragen in 2019/2020 academic year especially in class VIII-A”. Abstract

Speaking skill is necessary skill which very important in conversation with others. It means that people need to master speaking skill. The aim of the research was to know whether Story Completion can improve students’ speaking skill at the tenth grade of MAN 1 Surakarta in 2019/2020 Academic Year. The method of the research was classroom action research which consist of two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The test was oral test and the non-test were observation, interview, and documentation. While, to analyze the data was used t-test. The result of this research showed that the implementation of Story Completion was succsessfully improve students’ speaking skill. The mean score of pre-test was 55,38. Meanwhile in the post-test 1 in cycle 1, it improved to 66,5. In the post – test 2 the score had improved to 79. To try the significance result of teaching and learning speaking in first and second cycle, it was used t-test. The result showed the t-test between pre-test and post-test 1 was improved, while the t-test between post-test 1 and 2 also improved. It can be concluded that Story Completion was appropriate to improve students’ speaking skill in teaching and learning process. Keywords: Story Completion, Classroom Action Reseach, Speaking Skill.

Abstract

The objectives of the research are : 1) to find out whether Language Experience Approach (LEA) can improve students‟ Writing Skill on Narrative Text; and 2) to find out the implementation of LEA in teaching and learning writing at the eighth grade students of SMP N 16 Surakarta in 2019/2020 Academic Year especially in class VIII D is. The research was conducted at SMP N 16 Surakarta. It was conducted from October, 22th 2019 until January, 23rd 2020. The subject of the research was the students of class VIII D. In implementing the teaching and learning process, the researcher divided the research into two cycles. There were 2 meetings in cycle 1 and cycle 2. All meetings ended by Post-Test. Every meeting consisted of 5 steps : observing, questioning, exploring, associating, and communicating. In collecting the data, the reseacher used Test and Non Test. Tests included Pre-Test and Post-Test. Non Test included observation, interview , data analysis and documentation. In analyzing the data, the researcher used quantitative data and qualitative data . The result of Cycle 1 showed that some students were still less on organizing idea, vocabulary,language in use, content, and mechanics. Therefore, Cycle 2 showed that the use of LEA for organizing idea, vocabulary,language in use,content, and mechanics could improve the students‟ Writing Skill. The students‟ mean score in pre-test was 44.85, post-test 1 was 60.29, and post-test 2 was 73.08. And the t-test of cycle 1 was 8.56, and the t-test of cycle 2 was 10.65. Based on the result of the data from pre test, post test 1 and post test 2, it could be concluded that “The use of LEA can improve students‟ Writing Skill on Narrative Text in SMP N 16 Surakarta in 2019/2020 Academic Year, especially in class VIII D. So, LEA is a good and fun learning strategy for teaching and learning process. Key word: Writing Skill, Language Experience Approach (LEA) , Classroom Action Research.

Abstract

The research aims: (1) to know how can Listen Read Discuss strategy implemented effectively in improving the students’ reading comprehension at 8th Grade Student of SMP N 1 Colomadu in the academic year of 2019/2020, and (2) to know how far the improvement the students reading comprehension using Listen Read Discuss Strategy at 8th Grade Student of SMP N 1 Colomadu in the academic year of 2019/2020. The researcher conducted a classroom action research at the eighth grade of SMP N 1 Colomadu from September to November 2020. This research was conducted in class VIII D which consisted of 31 students with 17 boys and 14 girls. The research concerned in improving students’ reading comprehension on narrative texts using Lisen Read Discuss Strategy. The research consisted of two cycles. The procedure of action research consisted of planning, implementation of the action, observation, and reflection. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation, interview and document. In analyzing the data, the researcher used quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The result of this research showed that Listen Read Discuss strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension on narrative texts at eighth grade of SMP N 1 Colomadu. The improvement can be seen from the result of the test. It was 63.96 in pre-test, then it became 74.83 in post-test 1 and it became higher in post-test 2 (80.32). The result of post-test 1 and post-test 2 were higher than the minimum score KKM in that school which was 75.0. Besides, the student participated actively in teaching and learning process. From the result above, it can be concluded that Listen Read Discuss (LRD) Strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMP N 1 Colomadu. Abstract

Literary works can be created starting from the observation or experience of an author, who cares about social phenomena around her. Many literary works are inspired by social phenomena, but also do not rule out the possibility of literary works that inspire people to create certain social phenomena. It is like the story in the novel Totto-chan, Little Girl in the Window, a story about the phenomenon of education in Japan, which tells of a 1st grade elementary school girl, who does not yet have a focus on the learning process. Totto-chan doesn't like schools with conventional learning systems. A mother who truly understands her child, tries to find the right school for Totto-chan, and the choice of school is left to the Tomoe Gakuen. This article was written based on a research on moral values in Totto-chan novel. The aims of the study were to describe the moral values contained in the novel and the implementation of each values in the novel especially in the educational field. This study belonged to descriptive qualitative. Because this study involved novel as the main source, reading the novel as a whole was the first step that must be done. The data were moral values. There were 75 data of moral values found in this study. The data obtained in this study coming from the processing of data collection then analyzed and produces a descriptive detail regarding the explanation of the data that had been collected. The result of the study was how we can understand the moral values contained in the novel. There were nine values that are emphasized in this study. Those values were creativity, curiosity, honesty, hardworking, independence, discipline, kindness, tolerance and caring for the environment. The story in the Totto-chan novel, where the main character Totto-chan was the author's first name. So the story raised in this novel was the author's childhood experience. Tetsuko Kuroyanagi, felt the benefits of going to school at Tomoe Gakuen, which was able to emphasize her character better by true educators namely the Principal and founder and owner of the Tomoe Gakuen School. Abstract

Media are tools to help the teacher to inform the material more than easier. Based on the research taht was conducted on teaching media and learning activity at the class, the objectives of this research were to describe: 1) media used during teaching and learning process at seventh grade of SMP N 23 Surakarta, Banyu Anyar in 2019/2020 academic year; 2) the problems faced by the teacher in using media during the teaching and learning process at seventh grade of SMP N 23 Surakarta, Banyu Anyar in 2019/2020 academic year. It was a descriptive study on teaching media in English class. To collect the data, observation, interview, questionnaire, and documents were employed. Then, the data were analyzed by using qualitative technique which consisted of three stages : reducing data, presenting the data, and drawing conclusion.The result of the research showed that 1) The media used were LCD projector, books, whiteboard, flashcard, board marker, and laptop. 2) The problem was not found during the teaching and learning process and it was going well. Abstract

Theesubject of thissresearch consistssof 32 students. It wassa Classroom Action Research. Theeresearch tookktwo cycles. Eachhcycle consistssof planning, implementing,gobserving, and reflecting. Theiresearcher usediinterview, test, and documentiin collectingithe data. The dataaof the researchhwas analyzeddthrough qualitativeemethod for interviewaand document. Theeresearcher useddquantitative usingtt-test to measureewhether there wasssignificant improvementtbetween pre-testaand post-test 1 score,aand also post-test 1 and post-test 2 score. Besides, theeimprovement of students’sreading comprehensionncan be seennfrom the studentssreading achievement. Theeresult of meannscore for pre-testewas (51,5), post-test 1 (64,9), and post-test 2 (81,4). Then,tthe t-test valueeof cycleione was 13,4863 and the t-test value of cycleetwo was 17,1339. Baseddon the explanationnabove, it can beeconcluded that Cloze Procedureeis an appropriateestrategy to improveestudents’ readinggcomprehension. This study aimed to find out whetherZBamboo DancingZTechnique canZimprove students’ speakingZskill and toZdescribe howZBamboo DancingZTechnique implemented in XI IPA 2 of MAN 1 Surakarta in 2019/2020 Academic Year. The method of the study wasZclassroom action research. ItZconsisted ofZtwo cyclesZincluding theZsteps of classroomZaction research. There wereZplanning, implementing, observing, andZreflecting. The test thatZused in thisZstudy was oralZtest and non–testZto collectZthe data. TheZnon-test wereZobservation, interview, and documentation. The result of this study showed that there was an improvement by implementing Bamboo DancingZTechnique to improveZstudents’ speaking skill. The mean score of pre-test was 55,86. Meanwhile in theZpost-test 1 in cycle 1, it improved to 65,29. In theZpost – test 2 the scoreZhad improved to 81. Abstract

Speaking is a basic life skill of students success in school and consequently through life. Without the ability to speak effectively, the students can not improve their speaking skill. Hence, the aims of the this research were to find out whether Story Reenacment can improved students speaking skill and to find out the class condition when Story Reenacment was implemented in teaching learning process at the Eleventh grade of MAN 1 Surakarta in the Academic Year of 2019/2020. This research was conducted at the Eleventh grade of MAN 1 Surakarta. The method of the study was classroom action research which was conducted from October until January 2020. The data was collected through test and non-test. In collecting data was used audio recording in pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2. Besides that to collect non-test was used observation, interview, documentation, and questionnaire. While, to analyze the data was used t-test. The results of the research showed that the implementation of Story Reenacment was successful to improve students speaking skill. The mean score increased from 49.77 in pre-test became 58.55 in post-test 1 until 72.55 in post-test 2. There were significant improvements of the students’ motivation and situation in teaching learning process. The teaching learning process using Story Reenactment was very interesting. The students more enjoyed in teaching learning English. It can be concluded that Story reenacment was appropriate to improve the students speaking skill in teaching and learning process. Moreover, The class condition was more enjoyable, enthusiast, and conducive during learning process. Key words: Speaking Skill; Story Reenacment; Classroom Action Research

Abstract

The aims of the study are to find out (1) whether Reciprocal Teaching can improve the students reading skill at the eighth grade of SMP PGRI 1 Surakarta in 2019/2020 academic year, (2) the class condition when Reciprocal Teaching is applied in the classroom to teach reading skill in SMP PGRI 1 Surakarta in 2019/2020 academic year. This research was carried out at SMP PGRI 1 Surakarta. The result of the research showed that Reciprocal Teaching can improve students’ reading skill of the students at grade VIII-A of SMP PGRI 1 Surakarta. The research was carried out in 2 cycles. In all cycle focused on a Descriptive text. The improvements can be seen from the students’ reading skill achievement. The mean score results of pre test was 42.57, post test 1 68.29, post test 2 79.00. The class condition was more conducive because the students paid attention to the researcher, the students were enthusiastic and interested to discuss within their group, the students were high concentration to the material, and the students were more active in the classroom. It can be concluded that the use of Reciprocal Teaching can improve the students reading skill in SMP PGRI 1 Surakarta in 2019/2020 Academic Year.
