Abstract

This research aimed to: (1) describe the implementation of animated short films in teaching narrative writing at the tenth grade of MAN 1 Surakarta in the 2023/2024 academic year, and (2) identify whether the use of animated short films improves students' logical sequence of ideas in writing narrative texts. The study employed Classroom Action Research, conducted in two cycles during the August 2023/2024 academic year with the participation of XE4 students. Data collection methods included tests, observations, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis utilized both qualitative (Miles and Huberman's model) and quantitative (mean scores) methods. The results revealed that animated short films significantly enhanced students' logical sequencing in narrative writing. The students’ average scores improved from 62 in the pre-test to 74 in post-test 1, and 77 in post-test 2. Thus, animated short films effectively improved students’ narrative writing skills, particularly in organizing logical story sequences. Abstract

The research objectives were: 1) To find out the kinds of errors made by the tenth grade Students of SMK Kristen 2 Surakarta on using simple past tense in recount text. 2)To determine the dominant errors made by tenth grade Students of SMK Kristen 2 Surakarta on using simple past tense in recount text. The research subject was in class X TO (Teknik Otomotif), with 28 students. The method of data was qualitative research. This research was studied from the perspective of error analysis. There were omissions, additions, misinformation, and misordering in error analysis. The instruments used to collect the data were observation, interview, test, and documentation. After analyzing the data, the researcher found the total number of errors made by students and the total number of errors in percentage. There were Omission 20 (20%), Misinformation 77 (77%) and Misordering 3 (3%). So, the dominant error made by students was misinformation  In this research result, the cause of misinformation was that the students were still confused about the correct use of the structure had limited vocabulary, especially in irregular verbs and used the nominal verb in simple past tense. Abstract

This study was aimed to describing the class condition when the animated film based on local wisdom is implemented in the teaching and learning activity of writing a narrative text and this study also aimed to find out whether the use of animated films based on local wisdom can develop students’ ideas on writing narrative text. The research used Classroom Action Research as the method of study. This research was conducted on May until August. The subject of the research was the students of XI F 7 class of MAN 1 Surakarta in the 2024/2025 academic year. This research used qualitative and quantitative methods to collect the data. The qualitative data was collected through questionnaire, observation, and documentation while the quantitative data was collected through pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2. The analysis of the qualitative data using the triangulation method by Miles and Huberman, then the analysis of the quantitative data using the students’ mean score from the test. The result of the research showed that the animated film based on local wisdom can develop students’ ideas on writing narrative texts. The improvement of the students’ writing ability can be proven by the improvement of the students’ mean score in each test. Not just the mean score, but the class condition has also improved. The class condition became more conducive, and the students also became more active and enjoy during the teaching and learning activity. Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze how gender roles seen in the movie ‘Barbie’. This research is classified as a qualitative research type using a descriptive approach. The data from this study comes from ‘Barbie’ movie and script. Then, in collecting data the researcher used documentation by watching the movie and reading the script. In analyzing data, the researcher used interactive data analysis by Miles and Huberman. To find the research's validity, triangulation data and triangulation theory were used to check validation for the data. The result of the research showed that the ‘Barbie’ movie critiques societal norms and gender roles by contrasting Barbieland’s matriarchal utopia with the real world’s patriarchal limitations Keywords : Gender roles, Descriptive Qualitative,  Barbie movie, Equality.

Abstract

The research aims to investigate the implementation of Digital Flipbook (DigiFlip) as an English teaching and learning media to improve students’ reading comprehension in tenth grades of MAN 1 Surakarta during the 2024/2025 academic year. The study used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design and collected qualitative data through observation, documentation, and questionnaires. Quantitative data was collected through pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman triangulation method. The results showed that the application of digital flipbook effectively improved students’ reading comprehension, with an average score increase of 62 in the pre-test, 71 in post-test 1, and 86 in post-test 2. The classroom environment also showed a significant improvement, with students becoming more pleasant, enthusiastic, active, and conducive during the teaching-learning process. The study’s findings highlight the potential of digital flipbooks in enhancing students’ reading comprehension and English language learning. Abstract

The research studies about Students’ Perceptions Toward the Use of Textbook as Learning Media in Learning English for the Second Grade Students of SMP N 15 Surakarta. The problem in this study are about what is perceptions students about used of new textbook as learning media in English learning. It is important to know students' perceptions of the textbooks they use. This study is used descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of the research are the class in second grade students of SMP 15 Surakarta in academic year 2023/2024. Each class consist of 29 students. The data was collected through questionnaire and interview. Student perception data were analyzed by collecting data, reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. For validating of data, researchers used triangulation of methods and sources. In analyzing data, researchers used data condensation, data presentation, and drawing and verifying conclusions. The results of this research show that were: Positive perceptions conveyed by students toward to the teaching materials: have a real impact, interesting materials learning, encourage students, , pay attention to student readiness, authentic, communicative, provide opportunities for feedback on results. Students' give a neutral perceptions toward to the materials about  help students feel comfortable, useful and relevant , do not meet students with different learning styles, the book  present a pleasent views, ilustration are not present clearly, present an interesting image, do not maximize students' learning potential. Based on interviews with several students, it also shows positive perceptions and is in accordance with the results of the questionnaire questions. In accordance with Tomlison's theory, this book has positive observation results in accordance with standard criteria, although there are many who are neutral, but the majority do not have negative perceptions. Abstract

Abstract: This study uses Jo Rowlands' idea of relational empowerment to examine feminist readings of Raya and the Last Dragon (2021). The film presents empowerment as a collaborative attempt focused on trust, cooperation, and leadership, in contrast with typical narratives of lone female heroes. This study focuses at significant circumstances that highlight decision-making, resistance of gender norms, collaboration and reconciliation using qualitative analysis and library research. The results show that Raya's leadership, determination, and intelligence challenge gender stereotypes, and that the Southeast Asian setting of the film emphasize a collective approach to empowerment in contrast to Western individualist feminism. Film ini menampilkan pemberdayaan sebagai upaya kolaboratif yang berfokus pada kepercayaan, kerja sama, dan kepemimpinan, berbeda dengan narasi khas pahlawan perempuan yang bertindak sendiri. Studi ini meneliti momen-momen penting yang menyoroti pengambilan keputusan, perlawanan terhadap norma gender, kerja sama, dan rekonsiliasi dengan menggunakan analisis kualitatif dan studi pustaka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kepemimpinan, keteguhan, dan kecerdasan Raya menantang stereotip gender, serta bahwa latar budaya Asia Tenggara dalam film ini menekankan pendekatan pemberdayaan yang kolektif, berbeda dengan feminisme individualis Barat. Kata kunci: Feminism, Pemberdayaan Perempuan, Pemberdayaan Relasional, Raya and The Last Dragon
