Abstract

Damage to highways in Indonesia is often caused by the inadequate quality of asphalt compaction, which does not conform to the optimum temperature during on-site construction. Asphalt compaction is highly dependent on temperature to ensure the mix achieves maximum density, which strengthens the durability and service life of the road. This study explores the use of Maiting River stones from North Toraja Regency as materials in asphalt concrete binder course (AC-BC) mixtures, aiming to determine the characteristics and feasibility of the material. The research methods include material sampling, aggregate characteristic testing, mix design planning, specimen preparation, conventional Marshall testing, determining the optimum asphalt content (OAC), compaction temperature variations, and Marshall Immersion testing. The results show that the aggregate characteristics of Maiting River stones from North Toraja Regency indicate that the AC-BC mixture with 60/70 penetration asphalt comprises 58.75% coarse aggregate, 36.99% fine aggregate, and 4.27% filler, resulting in a design asphalt content of 5%. In this study, the optimum asphalt content used was 5.50%, with compaction temperature variations of 150°C, 180°C, and 200°C. The test results show that the optimum compaction temperature for the asphalt mixture (AC-BC) is 150°C, achieving Stability of 1575.89%, Flow of 3.15%, FMA of 15.08%, VIM of 3.12%, VFB of 79.29%, and MQ of 499.94%. These values meet the standards specified in the 2018 Bina Marga specifications.

Abstract

Clay soil is a soil that has a high potential for shrinkage if there is a change in the soil water content system. Expansive soil has a large shrinkage. Stabilization of clay soil is an important step in geotechnical engineering to improve the physical and mechanical properties of the soil, especially in supporting building structures. This study aims to evaluate the effect of adding vermiculite and lime on the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and shear strength of clay soil. Vermiculite, as a mineral additive material that has high expansion and cation exchange capacity, combined with lime which is chemically able to improve soil stability and strength through pozzolanic reactions. One method of improving expansive clay soil is by adding vermiculite and lime as soil stabilization materials. In this study, shear strength and compressive strength tests will be carried out on soil samples stabilized with vermiculite and lime. This study used 6% vermiculite and variations of lime at 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% which were then tested using the UCS test and direct shear test. The results of the study showed that the highest shear strength, cohesion, and friction angle values were obtained with the addition of 6% vermiculite and 15% lime, namely 0.9247% for shear strength, 0.4392% for cohesion, and 27.57% for friction angle. Similarly, in the compressive strength test, the highest increase occurred with the addition of 6% vermiculite and 15% lime with a stress value of 1.155%.

Abstract

Pavement is an important element in road construction consisting of a layer of aggregate and binder, which serves to support traffic loads and protect the soil layer from climate change and great pressure. Based on the type of binder, pavements are divided into flexible, rigid and composite pavements. This research provides an overview of the planning and quality testing of flexible pavement, and aims to analyze the volume requirements and thickness of flexible pavement in road projects using secondary data from PT Mareraya Multipratama Jaya and Bina Marga 2018 (Revision 2) specifications. The main focus is on flexible pavement that uses asphalt as the main binder, with a 6 cm thick LASTON AC-BC layer and 4 cm thick LASTON AC-WC. The method used is observation through secondary data collection, including analysis of pavement thickness as well as the volume of the mixture of aggregates, asphalt, and fillers. The analysis showed that the total volume of AC-BC and AC-WC mixes were 3302.35 tons and 2104.09 tons, respectively, with bitumen volume of 183.28 tons for AC-BC and 127.93 tons for AC-WC. There was a significant difference in core drill thickness between the self-inspection and inspectorate inspection, the inspectorate inspection showed lower density. Factors such as traffic load, asphalt aging, and environmental conditions may influence the difference in results.

Abstract

This research discusses the alternative design of pile foundations on the Maros Bridge, as an access route to the Maros II Railway Station. In the existing foundation condition used is the bored pile type with a total of 18 piles for each abutment, which has a bearing capacity of 1038.02 kN (abutment 1) and 1400.18 kN (abutment 2) with a diameter of 0.8 m respectively. This alternative pile foundation design considers the comparison of the number, depth, and diameter of the foundation to achieve adequate bearing capacity and determine the shifts that occur using the Displacement Method. Based on the results of the design of the pile foundation design requires 22 piles with a diameter of 0.5 m for each abutment, with a pile foundation depth of 7 m at abutment 1 and 12 m at abutment 2 and with a horizontal shift value (Hi) 968.38, vertical (Vi) 2501.66, and moment (Mi) 3939.02. The bearing capacity of a single pile obtained is 788.3 kN for abutment 1 and 1278.52 kN for abutment 2, so the total bearing capacity that can be borne by the entire foundation in carrying the load of the upper structure has met the required requirements. The configuration of the existing bored pile foundation is 18 piles, while the alternative configuration plan results in a pile configuration of 22 piles with planned dimensions that are able to withstand the loads and forces acting on the bridge even though it requires a larger number of piles compared to the existing bored pile foundation.

Abstract

Indonesia, as a developing country, continues to carry out infrastructure development, including the expansion of Sultan Hasanuddin Airport's main terminal in Makassar. This research aims to identify the influence of age, experience, and education on worker productivity in the project. Using a quantitative approach, data was collected through direct observation, questionnaires, and interviews with relevant parties. The analysis showed that all three variables have a significant and positive impact on worker productivity. Work experience has the largest effect (0.393), followed by education (0.302) and age (0.270). These findings indicate that workers with higher experience and education tend to have better productivity, while age also contributes but with a smaller impact. This research underscores the importance of effective human resource management in supporting infrastructure development. By improving worker quality through education and experience, companies can achieve optimal results. The findings provide insights for project managers and policymakers in designing human resource

Abstract

Pile foundations are widely used in construction, particularly for structures on low-bearing capacity soils or heavy buildings. Driven and bored piles are the most common types. This study explores driven piles as an alternative to bored piles, focusing on foundation strength through bearing capacity comparison. The selected driven pile is a prestressed precast concrete pile, 1 meter in diameter and 14 meters deep. The method involves calculating bearing capacity using the Meyerhoff equation based on N-SPT data, along with analyzing pile reactions and displacement at the supports through displacement analysis. The calculation results show that the carrying capacity of piles with a diameter of 1 m and a depth of 14 m reaches 2861 kN, larger than a drilled pile with a diameter of 0.8 m and a depth of 21 m with a carrying capacity of 1895.1 kN. Based on these results, prestressed spun pile concrete piles were selected with a concrete quality of fc' 50 MPa, a diameter of 1 m, and a total length of 21 m. The selection of this alternative based on the results of the analysis is still within the safe limit so that the foundation is safe to use.

Abstract

Mimika Regency, Central Papua is currently facing geographical challenges. Timika's location far from the national distribution center causes limited access to goods and services, including heavy equipment. This condition is exacerbated by high logistics costs, minimal local providers, and underdeveloped transportation infrastructure. One case occurred in the Wandai Jaya company project, which experienced delays due to the unavailability of motor graders for rental. The delay had an impact on the postponement of the work resulting in disruption of the project schedule and the potential for financial losses and the company's reputation. Therefore, a long-term heavy equipment procurement strategy is needed. This study analyzes the feasibility of procuring motor graders through three methods, namely cash purchases, credit purchases, and rentals, using the Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) approach. The calculation results show that the credit method produces a total cost of IDR 1,838,213,558 with a BCR of 0.01, cash purchases of IDR 1,450,000,000 with a BCR of 0.14, and rentals of IDR 2,925,000,000 with a BCR of 2.4. Based on the analysis, the rental method proved to be the most economically profitable. This finding can be the basis for decision making in heavy equipment procurement to improve project efficiency, especially in areas with logistical challenges such as Timika.
