Abstract

This community service aimed to enhance the knowledge of health cadres on improving the quality of life of diabetes mellitus (DM) patients in the Kratonan Community Health Center area, Surakarta City, based on research identifying poor quality of life among some DM patients. The activities involved 16 health cadres and were conducted in three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. During implementation, cadres received educational booklets covering DM risk factors, complications, prevention efforts, and quality of life improvement, followed by pre-test, material presentation, discussion, and post-test sessions. Results showed an increase in average knowledge scores from 6.31 (pre-test) to 10.06 (post-test), indicating improved understanding among cadres. This intervention highlights the important role of health cadres in providing health information and psychological support to DM patients. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation of behavior changes linked to gained knowledge are recommended.

Abstract

Bullying in schools is a social phenomenon that occurs throughout Indonesia, including in Cianjur Regency, West Java Province. Quality Education is part of the UN Sustainable Goals agenda that required to be implemented by member states, including Indonesia. The priority issue underlying this activity is the continued prevalence of bullying due to a lack of understanding and knowledge about the SDGs. As a solution, the community service team held a public lecture and workshop with the theme "Safe and Inclusive Schools: Building Anti-Bullying Awareness." The implementation method included interactive education through material presentations, student group discussions, reflections, and the preparation of written commitments by students. The results of the implementation showed high enthusiasm and active participation from the 100 students who participated. They demonstrated the ability to think reflectively and empathetically and were able to formulate a collective commitment to creating a bullying-free school, highlighting their shared responsibility and determination.

Abstract

Children with special needs, particularly those with autism, require comprehensive support to ensure that their basic physiological, emotional, social, and self-fulfillment needs are met within the educational setting. Ensuring the fulfillment of these needs is crucial for their growth, learning development, and long-term independence. This study examines the fulfillment of basic needs among children with autism at SLB Negeri 1 Makassar based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. A qualitative approach was employed using a case study design, with data collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Informants included teachers, the school principal, and parents. The findings reveal that the basic needs of children with autism are largely fulfilled through individualized learning programs, structured daily activities, emotional support from teachers, and active parental involvement. The school also provides a safe learning environment, specialized facilities, and vocational activities that foster students’ potential and independence. Nevertheless, several challenges remain, including the limited availability of professional staff, inadequate facilities, and the diverse characteristics of the students. To address these challenges, the school implements individualized approaches, reward systems, and strong collaboration between the school and families. In conclusion, the fulfillment of basic needs for children with autism at SLB Negeri 1 Makassar has been carried out effectively through structured and collaborative strategies, although further efforts are required to enhance facilities and strengthen cross-sector cooperation.

Abstract

The household electronic appliance maintenance and repair training for the Lempangang Village Youth Organization (Karang Taruna) aims to improve the technical skills of the community, particularly young people, in identifying and repairing damage to household electronic appliances. Through this training, participants gained knowledge and practical skills in using measuring tools such as multimeters, replacing damaged components, and performing preventative maintenance on irons. The training results showed a significant improvement in participants' skills, as evidenced by a 9.04% increase in pre- and post-test scores. In the pre-test, participants' average scores were around 60%-70%, indicating sufficient basic understanding, but with some areas for improvement. After the training, participants' post-test scores increased to 80%-90%, reflecting a clear improvement in their ability to independently repair electric irons. Furthermore, this training opened new business opportunities in the field of electronic appliance repair services, had a positive impact on local economic empowerment, and reduced electronic waste by extending the lifespan of existing appliances. The program also raised awareness about the importance of maintaining electronic appliances in the household. As a suggestion, expanding training materials and using digital technology to support further learning can increase the impact of this training, as well as expanding community participation through partnerships with various parties.
