Abstract

Introduction: Adolescence is a critical period that requires adequate nutritional intake, yet undernutrition remains a significant public health problem among adolescent girls. Nutrition literacy and dietary consumption patterns are important factors influencing nutritional status, particularly among adolescents with anemia. This study aimed to examine the relationship between dietary consumption patterns, nutrition literacy, and undernutrition among anemic female adolescents in public senior high schools in Medan City, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted among 208 anemic female adolescents aged 15–18 years from six public senior high schools in Medan City, selected through cluster and proportional random sampling. Data were collected using anthropometric measurements, hemoglobin testing, a Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ), and a validated nutrition literacy questionnaire. Chi-square tests were used for data analysis. Results: Most participants had inadequate nutrient intake, particularly energy, protein, and carbohydrates. Poor dietary patterns were identified in 69.2% of respondents. Functional and interactive nutrition literacy were generally low, whereas critical nutrition literacy was mostly adequate. Significant associations were found between undernutrition and protein intake (p = 0.003), dietary consumption patterns (p = 0.001), and interactive nutrition literacy (p = 0.021), while other variables showed no significant relationship. Conclusion: Undernutrition among anemic adolescent girls is associated with inadequate protein intake, unhealthy dietary patterns, and low interactive nutrition literacy. School-based nutrition education is needed to improve adolescents' nutritional status.

Abstract

The Free Health Check-Up Program (CKG) is a promotive and preventive government policy aimed at improving early detection of non-communicable diseases among adults. However, the utilization of the CKG program in Medan City remains suboptimal despite the community’s positive perception regarding the importance of health screening. This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing the utilization of the CKG program among adults in Medan City, including knowledge, attitude, family support, access to health services, the role of health workers, perceived need, and evaluated need. This research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 17,724 participants of the CKG program from five community health centers in Medan City, with a sample of 392 respondents selected using accidental sampling techniques. Data were collected using structured questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted through univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses using multiple logistic regression. The simultaneous analysis showed that all variables in the model had a significant effect on the utilization of the CKG program, with a model contribution of 65.8% (Nagelkerke R Square = 0.658). Knowledge was identified as the most dominant factor influencing the utilization of the CKG program, with a regression coefficient of 1.579. The findings indicated that better respondent knowledge regarding the benefits and procedures of the CKG program increased the likelihood of utilizing the health service. In addition, attitude, family support, access to health services, the role of health workers, perceived need, and evaluated need also contributed significantly to the individual's decision to utilize preventive health services. This study concludes that improving inclusive health education, optimizing primary health care services, and integrating health data such as Electronic Medical Records (EMR) are essential to increase the utilization of the CKG program among adults in Medan City.

Abstract

The clinical role of radiotherapy in oncology, where ionising radiation is applied to damage the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) structure of tumour target cells in order to halt uncontrolled cell proliferation. The success of radiotherapy is influenced by patient compliance in completing the entire course of treatment according to the prescribed schedule. Consequently, the aim of this study was to develop a digital radiation card model using an Android-based smartphone for patients undergoing external radiation therapy at Murni Teguh General Hospital in Medan, with a view to improving patient compliance and satisfaction. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach to develop an Android-based digital radiation card and assess its feasibility. The R&D method was chosen as it is suitable for research that produces a product whilst simultaneously conducting testing and refinement prior to wider implementation. The ADDIE development model was utilised, comprising five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Based on the expert validation test, the digital radiotherapy card has been found to be effective in improving patient compliance and satisfaction in the radiotherapy department. The effectiveness of using Android-based digital radiation cards for patients undergoing external radiation therapy in improving patient satisfaction is demonstrated by the results of the Wilcoxon test, which show that all items relating to satisfaction have a p-value < 0.05; this indicates a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores for satisfaction following the implementation of the Android-based digital radiation cards. The effectiveness of using Android-based digital radiation cards for patients undergoing external radiation therapy in improving patient compliance was demonstrated by the results of the Wilcoxon test, which showed that all items relating to compliance had a p-value < 0.05. Consequently, the use of digital radiation cards can be deemed effective in improving respondents’ compliance.

Abstract

Hypoglycemia persists as a significant and frequent complication in individuals with diabetes mellitus, resulting in clinical, psychological, and economical repercussions that may hinder adequate glycemic regulation. This bibliometric analysis aimed to identify new trends in the management and interventions of hypoglycemia, with a specific focus on digital health technologies, patient education, self-management, and evidence-based preventive methods. Data were extracted from the Scopus database utilising the keywords “hypoglycemia” AND “diabetes mellitus.” The analysis encompassed 1,281 articles and reviews in English published from 2015 to 2025. Bibliographic data were refined and analysed utilising VOSviewer version 1.6.20 to investigate keyword co-occurrence, thematic clustering, and temporal overlay patterns. A minimum criterion of five papers per keyword was implemented to enhance map relevance and clarity. The findings revealed nine principal thematic clusters encompassing paediatric and adolescent populations, clinical trials, patient knowledge and behaviour, pregnancy and gestational diabetes, professional healthcare roles, dietary strategies, trial methodology, digital health applications, and school-based preventive education. High-frequency and emerging keywords reflect an increasing focus on continuous glucose monitoring, family-centered education, structured educational programmes, smartphone applications, and digital self-management assistance. The literature indicates a transition from traditional clinical treatment to multidimensional, personalised, and technology-enhanced hypoglycemia management. This study's originality is found in its comprehensive mapping of nascent research trajectories and overlooked gaps. Future interventions must integrate digital tools, organised teaching, dietary guidance, and tailored self-management assistance for at-risk diabetes populations across various international clinical and community care environments.

Abstract

Background: Daily physical activity is one of the factors that play a role in maintaining the physical fitness of students. One form of physical activity that is carried out every day is the use of active modes of transportation to school, such as walking and cycling. This study aims to determine the difference between long jump achievement and academic achievement of grade VIII students based on the mode of transportation used, namely motorcycles, bicycles, and walking. This study uses a quantitative approach with a comparative research design. The research sample amounted to 112 students in grade VIII of SMP Negeri 4 Sleman who were selected using the purposive sampling technique. The independent variable in this study was the mode of transportation to school, while the bound variable included long jump achievement and academic achievement. Data was collected through long jump practice tests, documentation of report cards, and questionnaires about the mode of transportation used by students. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics, normality test, homogeneity test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and continued with the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the achievement of long jump based on the mode of transportation used by the students (p < 0.05). Students who use bicycles get much better jump results than students who walk or use motorcycles. Conversely, no significant differences were found in academic achievement based on the mode of transportation used (p > 0.05). The findings of the study show that the use of active modes of transportation is related to students' physical abilities, but has not shown a relationship with academic achievement. The results of this research can be the basis for schools to encourage the use of active transportation as part of efforts to improve the physical fitness of students.
