Abstract

This study aims to analyze the political strategies employed by the Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of the GOLKAR Party in building the partys image in North Aceh Regency during the 2024 General Election. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing data collection techniques such as interviews, observation, documentation, and literature review. The findings reveal that GOLKAR's strategies include implementing social programs, strengthening the role of local figures, and conducting political training. However, challenges remain in the limited use of social media and the uneven distribution of campaign activities. The analysis is grounded in Peter Schroders theory of political strategy and Frank Jefkins public relations theory. The study shows that the DPD GOLKAR Party of North Aceh builds its party image by organizing a Political Institute program for the community. Additionally, GOLKAR maximizes its approach through influential local figures, leveraging their personal closeness to the people. This study recommends that the party should not focus its campaign efforts solely on areas where it already has voter support but should expand its campaigns throughout all regions of North Aceh.

Abstract

In contemporary democracies, elections are not merely contests of policy and vision but increasingly arenas where identity politics shape voter behavior. This paper examines how collective identities particularly religion became central instruments in the 2019 general elections of Indonesia and India, two populous and multicultural democracies. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach with a comparative case study design, this research analyzes how political actors mobilized identity-based narratives to influence electoral outcomes. Data were collected from academic literature, political documents, speeches, media reports, and digital campaign materials. In India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) effectively utilized Hindu nationalism as a campaign tool, supported by digital platforms, to consolidate the Hindu majority vote. In Indonesia, Islamic identity narratives played a significant role in shaping support for the presidential candidates, with religious figures actively participating in identity-based mobilization. The findings suggest that identity politics in both countries contributed to social polarization, undermining democratic deliberation and national integration. This study offers a critical reflection on the consequences of identity-driven politics in democratic societies.

Abstract

Political participation is a constitutional right guaranteed to all citizens, including women. In regional head elections (Pilkada), women play essential roles not only as voters but also as organizers and campaign participants. This study aims to analyze the forms and influencing factors of womens political participation in the 2024 Pilkada in Gampong Gunong Kleng, Aceh Barat District. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation during the election stages, and documentation from election committees. The findings reveal a significant increase in women's involvement, particularly in roles such as polling officers, witnesses, campaign teams, and active voters. This active participation reflects progress toward a more inclusive and gender-equitable local democracy. The study recommends the implementation of affirmative policies, political education, and the creation of a conducive social environment to enhance women's political engagement.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the extent to which Instagram news coverage influences the political preferences of presidential candidates among students at Syiah Kuala University. As a popular social media platform among the younger generation, Instagram holds significant potential in shaping public opinion through visual and narrative content. The study adopts the agenda-setting theory, which posits that the media has the power to shape which issues are considered important by the public. A descriptive quantitative method was employed to explore the relationship between variables. The validity test results show that all indicators of variables X and Y are valid, with calculated r-values greater than the critical r-table value at a significance level of 0.05. This indicates that Instagram coverage influences students political preferences, thereby supporting McCombs and Shaw's agenda-setting theory. However, the analysis of statement number 12 reveals that a majority of respondents (39.6%) disagreed that social media campaigns significantly influence their voting decisions, while 34.2% agreed, and 26.2% remained neutral. These findings suggest that although social media is capable of shaping public opinion, its influence on individual political decisions remains limited.

Abstract

PT Beri Mineral Utama (BMU) was granted an iron ore mining permit but operated illegal gold mining in Simpang Tiga Village, Central Kluet, South Aceh. This activity led to environmental damage and water pollution. This research aims to analyze the persistence of illegal gold mining after permit closure and examine indications of transactional politics involved. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through interviews, observation, and document analysis. The study applies Transactional Politics theory and the concept of Anthropocentrism. Findings reveal that illegal mining persists due to the collusion between mining mafias and state actors, anthropocentric government attitudes, and weak law enforcement. The research offers insights to guide concrete solutions to address environmental degradation.
