Abstract

The transformation of the modern labor market has posed significant challenges for young people, particularly in the form of career uncertainty, excessive work flexibility, and the mismatch between education and labor market demands. This study aims to explore how Indonesian youth respond to these conditions through the lens of ambivalence and resilience theories by Colombo & Rebughini. The research uses a qualitative method with in-depth interviews involving two university graduates working in fields unrelated to their academic backgrounds. The findings reveal that the lack of job stability, economic pressure, and educational mismatch drive young people to develop various adaptive strategies. These include personal resilience such as introspection and optimism, as well as social resilience supported by family and peer networks. Furthermore, the meaning of work among youth is shifting—not merely as a source of income, but as a space for self-actualization, skill relevance, and psychological comfort. This is consistent with previous studies in SINTA-indexed journals, which emphasize that Indonesian youth today are redefining success and meaningful work within an increasingly ambivalent social landscape. The study concludes that youth are not merely passive victims of economic uncertainty but are also active agents in constructing their own narratives of work and life. Therefore, it is essential for educational institutions, industries, and the state to provide adaptive environments that allow youth to grow sustainably within a dynamic labor ecosystem.

Abstract

The management of national border areas is a strategic issue in the modern international system, directly linked to sovereignty, national security, and regional stability. This study aims to examine the role of international law in border management through a qualitative literature-based approach. Findings indicate that core principles of international law, such as uti possidetis juris, state sovereignty, and non-intervention, serve as the normative foundation for boundary formation, recognition, and dispute resolution. Current challenges such as illegal immigration, infiltration, and territorial claims demand the strengthened implementation of international law within national policy. Local government involvement and economic diplomacy also play vital roles in building adaptive and responsive border governance. In Indonesia’s case, land and maritime border dynamics highlight the need for a comprehensive strategy that integrates legal, diplomatic, and regional development aspects. This study underscores the importance of synergy among state actors to safeguard territorial integrity and foster sustainable cross-border cooperation.

Abstract

The South China Sea is a strategic water area connecting East Asia, the Pacific Ocean, and the Indian Ocean, and is the main route for around 30 percent of international trade shipping. This area is also rich in energy resources, such as natural gas and petroleum. However, in recent decades, the South China Sea has become the center of territorial disputes due to unilateral maritime claims by China through the Nine Dash Line principle which covers up to 90 percent and is contrary to the Law of the Sea. China even builds artificial islands equipped with military infrastructure, which increases tensions in the region. Through the approach of the realism paradigm, as well as the theory of complex regional security and maritime security as well as literature analysis, this article discusses the implications of China's artificial island construction on maritime security in Southeast Asia, especially for countries such as Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam. This article emphasizes that China's actions have implications that greatly disrupt the stability of maritime security for countries in the region located in the South China Sea waters.

Abstract

The development of information technology has brought about significant changes in civil case evidence practices in Indonesia, especially after the enactment of Law No. 11 of 2008 on Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE Law) and the implementation of the e-Court system. This paper aims to analyze the status of electronic evidence in civil litigation following the enactment of the ITE Law and the development of electronic case administration. The research method employed is a normative legal approach, involving an analysis of legal regulations as well as primary and secondary legal literature. The analysis reveals that the ITE Law recognizes electronic information as valid evidence, but its integration into civil procedure law still faces procedural challenges due to the lack of detailed regulatory frameworks outlining the mechanisms for submitting and verifying digital evidence. Meanwhile, the e-Court system accelerates administrative processes and supports the use of electronic evidence, but limitations in infrastructure and technical literacy among judicial officials hinder optimal implementation. These findings underscore the urgency of harmonizing civil procedure law with the provisions of the ITE Law, as well as strengthening authentication standards and digital forensic capabilities for law enforcement officials.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the customary law system that applies in the Dayak Kalis community in West Kalimantan and examine its relationship with national formal law. Dayak Kalis customary law is an unwritten legal system that develops from the norms and customs of indigenous communities, and functions as a guideline in resolving disputes and regulating social life. In practice, this law emphasizes the values of restorative justice and deliberation by consensus, with types of punishments adjusted to the level of violation, such as Saut, Setanga'Baar, Pati Nyawa, and Adat Kampung. The study uses a normative method with a document approach, legislation, and legal theory. The results of the study indicate that Dayak Kalis customary law remains recognized in the national legal system as long as it does not conflict with generally applicable laws. The existence of this customary law reflects the importance of preserving local wisdom as an integral part of the pluralistic Indonesian legal system.

Abstract

Sexual violence against children and women in Indonesia remains a critical issue with lasting physical, psychological, and social consequences for victims. This study aims to analyze existing legal protection efforts for child and female victims of sexual violence, identify regulatory and implementation weaknesses, and formulate policy recommendations. Employing a normative legal research design with a doctrinal‑descriptive approach, it reviews legislation, scholarly literature, and court decisions. The findings reveal that despite legal frameworks such as Law No. 35/2014 on Child Protection and relevant Criminal Code provisions, significant gaps persist in offense categorization, victims’ access to legal aid services, and inter‑agency coordination. The implications highlight the need for regulatory refinement, strengthened reporting mechanisms, and enhanced capacity of law enforcement and legal aid institutions to ensure comprehensive victim protection.

Abstract

The death penalty is one of the means of protecting society and the state in the form of prevention and action. Indonesia is one of the countries that still maintains and recognizes the legitimacy of the death penalty as a punishment for perpetrators of criminal acts. The death penalty is closely related to human rights because the death penalty is the most severe punishment because perpetrators of criminal acts will lose the right to life which is a priceless right. Therefore, there is a conflict between the imposition of the death penalty on perpetrators of criminal acts and human rights. This paper aims to determine the provisions regarding the death penalty and the protection of human rights. The type of research taken in this study is normative legal research that contains relevant issues. Normative legal research is research that is conducted by reviewing applicable laws and regulations or applying them to legal problems. Several laws and regulations in Indonesia still maintain the threat of the death penalty, although the death penalty has been criticized by human rights activists. Therefore, there is a compromise (criminal policy) in the Criminal Code, namely using the death penalty as an alternative punishment rather than the main punishment and only applies to very serious crimes.
