Abstract

This community-based program aimed to promote healthy lifestyles among elderly populations through an integrated approach combining health education and family support. The intervention was implemented at the Mojoagung Primary Health Center, Jombang Regency, East Java, Indonesia, during October 2025. A total of 40 elderly participants and 40 family members joined a two-week program consisting of group education sessions, family support meetings, and home visits facilitated by health cadres and nursing students. Evaluation included pre- and post-assessments of knowledge, attitudes, and healthy behavior practices. Results showed a 22 % increase in knowledge scores, a 28 % rise in self-reported healthy behaviors, and a 72 % improvement in caregivers’ competence, exceeding targeted outcomes. Attendance rates among elderly participants and caregivers reached 85 % and 74 %, respectively, with 92 % program fidelity. Participants reported high satisfaction and perceived relevance of the program. These findings suggest that integrating health education with structured family support effectively enhances health literacy, behavioral adherence, and caregiving competence among older adults. The approach demonstrates feasibility and acceptability within Indonesia’s community-based primary healthcare system, emphasizing the importance of family engagement in promoting healthy ageing. Further studies with larger samples and extended follow-up periods are recommended to assess long-term sustainability and clinical impacts of this model.

Abstract

The increasing consumption of low-nutrient snack foods in Indonesia underscores the need for community-based nutrition education interventions that promote healthier food choices using local resources. This community service program aimed to improve nutrition awareness and knowledge of healthy snack selection among Car Free Day participants in Jombang Regency through a media-based nutrition education approach combined with functional food demonstrations. The intervention was conducted during the National Nutrition Day event and targeted community members attending Car Free Day activities. Methods included individual nutrition counseling, the use of posters and leaflets, product demonstrations, and the distribution of bok choy sticks and rhizome-based powders made from ginger, turmeric, and Javanese ginger. Program evaluation employed descriptive methods, including observation of participant engagement, documentation of attendance, and collection of qualitative verbal feedback. The indicators assessed were participant participation, interaction during education sessions, expressed understanding of balanced nutrition messages, and acceptance of the functional food products. The activity demonstrated high participant engagement and positive acceptance of local functional foods. However, due to the absence of quantitative pre–post measurements, the findings should be interpreted as preliminary.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is an essential component of health promotion aimed at preventing disease and improving the quality of life, particularly among school-aged children. However, the implementation of PHBS among school children remains suboptimal due to limited knowledge and awareness of healthy practices. This community service activity aimed to improve PHBS among school children through structured health education. The activity was conducted at an elementary school using interactive educational methods, including lectures, visual media, demonstrations, and question-and-answer sessions. The target participants were school-aged children who actively took part in the health education program. The results showed an improvement in students’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to PHBS after the intervention. Students demonstrated a better understanding of clean and healthy behaviors, particularly proper handwashing techniques, personal hygiene, and environmental cleanliness. Increased participation and positive responses during the activity indicated that health education effectively enhanced students’ awareness and willingness to apply PHBS in their daily school activities. In conclusion, health education plays a significant role in promoting Clean and Healthy Living Behavior among school children. School-based health education programs are recommended as a sustainable strategy to foster healthy habits from an early age and to support the creation of a healthy school environment.
