Abstract

This research paper examines Germany’s leadership role within the European Union, drawing on European Leadership Theory alongside complementary perspectives from Neoliberalism and Neorealism. As the EU’s largest economy and a founding member, Germany occupies a pivotal position requiring the balancing of national priorities with broader European integration goals. The study aims to analyze how Germany’s leadership shapes and responds to the evolving political and economic challenges facing the Union. Employing a systematic literature review, the research analyzes secondary data collected from reputable academic databases such as JSTOR, Scopus, Web of Science, and official EU documentation portals, covering publications from 1990 to 2024. Using qualitative content analysis, the study explores Germany’s role through three theoretical lenses: the promotion of institutional cooperation and economic interdependence (Neoliberalism); power dynamics and strategic positioning within a competitive international system (Neorealism); and culturally sensitive, participative leadership that reflects European values of inclusivity and cohesion (European Leadership Theory). The findings reveal Germany’s leadership as multidimensional and adaptive, effectively combining soft and hard power to navigate contemporary challenges such as the Eurozone crisis, rising populism, Euroscepticism, and energy security issues intensified by the Ukraine conflict. Germany’s strategic engagement with EU mechanisms, including the European Stability Mechanism, underscores its commitment to stability and integration. In conclusion, the paper argues that Germany’s ability to integrate these theoretical frameworks into a cohesive leadership model is vital for sustaining EU unity, promoting deeper integration, and securing the long-term resilience of the European project.

Abstract

The foundational principles of human rights in Islam are inherently linked to essential entitlements such as the right to life, protection from forced labour, the right to own property, and freedom of expression. Both religious and secular worldviews have historically influenced the legal frameworks that govern human rights. Despite being regarded as inherent and inviolable, these rights have been frequently violated, resulting in the suffering and death of countless individuals through acts of cruelty and injustice. In response to the atrocities of World War II, the United Nations General Assembly formulated and adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), marking a significant step in the global acknowledgement of these rights. However, the Western approach to human rights has often differed in terms of interpretation, implementation, and access. The evolution of human rights is, in essence, a continuous discourse on what constitutes the inherent dignity and rightful entitlements of the human being. Ideally, such rights should be considered universal and beyond dispute. Recognizing this, I found it imperative to emphasize the significance of human dignity and property rights from an Islamic standpoint.

Abstract

The Silk Route was not merely an avenue for luxury trade but also a vibrant economic force that rebuilt medieval India's commercial and fiscal systems. This study revises its contribution to urbanization, monetization, and state economic policy, countering Eurocentric assumptions minimizing India's place in transregional trade. Based on numismatic evidence, travelogues, and GIS mapping, it indicates the prosperity of cities like Mathura, Taxila, and Delhi as significant trade centers, successfully integrating Persian, Central Asian, and Chinese networks. In addition, the study considers disruptions, such as Mongol invasions, forcing a strategic realignment toward Indian Ocean trade, thus perpetuating India's prolonged commercial dominance.

Abstract

This article examines the adverse effects of an education system that prioritizes academic grades above all else. Employing a qualitative approach, the study explores relevant literature and case studies to identify the implications of value orientation within educational contexts. The findings indicate that an excessive focus on grades may diminish students’ intrinsic motivation, foster academic dishonesty, and neglect the cultivation of character and social skills. The study recommends a reform toward a more holistic education system that emphasizes comprehensive individual development and personal growth.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology and the internet has brought numerous conveniences to everyday life but has also triggered new social issues, one of which is the rise of online gambling. This activity now extends beyond adults and increasingly involves students. This study employs a qualitative research design using a literature review approach, analyzing both national and international sources published between 2013 and 2023. Data are interpreted through Max Weber’s theory of social action and a phenomenological framework to understand students’ behaviors and motivations in engaging with online gambling. The findings indicate that online gambling among students leads to severe consequences across social, economic, psychological, and academic domains. Addicted adolescents often experience family conflict, financial loss, poor academic performance, and sometimes criminal involvement. The ease of internet access is a primary factor facilitating this behavior, exacerbated by weak supervision from families and communities. Many students are initially drawn by the thrill of easy profits, which soon traps them in a cycle of addiction.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has significantly influenced social life, including among elementary school students. One of the most prominent phenomena is the increasing use of social media among children. This study aims to examine the influence of social media usage on the manners and ethics of elementary school students, both positively and negatively. The research method used is a literature review, conducted by analyzing relevant studies, articles, and books. The findings reveal that social media can serve as a learning tool, broaden knowledge, and enhance students’ creativity when accompanied by proper guidance from parents and teachers. However, excessive and uncontrolled use may lead to negative impacts, such as reduced empathy, the use of inappropriate language, and weakened face-to-face interactions. Therefore, the active roles of families, schools, and communities are essential in providing supervision and digital literacy education from an early age, so that social media can be utilized positively in shaping well-mannered and ethical behavior in students.
