Abstract

The demand for clean water in the Gumanti Valley continues to increase as the population grows. On the other hand, the distribution of groundwater continues to decrease due to the reduction of infiltration areas. Groundwater potential mapping is conducted to determine the groundwater potential in an area, this is the first step in identifying and locating local water sources. Remote sensing data and geographic information systems were used to identify groundwater potential in this study. To determine groundwater potential, an overlay was conducted using the Weighted Overlay method. Based on the evaluation results, groundwater potential is classified into three classes: low, medium and high. Areas with low groundwater potential are spread over 341 ha, medium groundwater potential areas are 19,265 ha and high groundwater potential areas are 5,065 ha. The map results obtained can be used as a reference in finding suitable locations for exploitation of groundwater resources.

Abstract

Human conflicts with crocodiles have become a problem that affects crocodile conservation. Scientific publications on crocodile attack cases in Indonesia are still scarce and need validation, thus mitigation efforts for conflicts are not yet optimal. Tanjung Mutiara Subdistrict is an area with the highest incidence of human-crocodile conflicts in West Sumatra, as it has a natural crocodile habitat directly bordering densely populated settlements and community plantations. This research aims to map the distribution of estuarine crocodiles and the potential for conflicts in surrounding settlements. Data processing was conducted using Maxent software, and environmental variables included distance from the river, distance from the coast, distance from plantations, land cover (shrubland), elevation, and temperature. The Maxent software prediction results indicate that the distance from the river is the most influential variable, with an AUC (Area Under Curve) value of 0.863. The output values' range, approaching 1, signifies better predictions. Settlements with activities within one kilometer from the river and coast have the highest potential for human-crocodile conflicts.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to observe the level of population mobility in the outskirts of Bukittinggi City and analyze the mobility patterns occurring in the region. The research employs a quantitative descriptive methodology, utilizing data collection techniques through field observations and interviews. For data mapping, spatial analysis is conducted using Geographic Information System (GIS) with overlay techniques. Findings from the study at four observation points indicate that the inflow of vehicles surpasses the outflow, with the highest vehicle influx recorded on Wednesdays, reaching 37,411 vehicles. This suggests a dependency of the outskirts on Bukittinggi City, particularly in economic, educational, health, and tourism activities. The observed mobility patterns are predominantly daily in nature. Thus, addressing mobility challenges involves enhancing the quality of access to Bukittinggi City and developing infrastructure in the outskirts to alleviate the burden on the city center.

Abstract

Tanah Datar Regency generally has a physical description of land that is suitable for growing Arabica coffee plantations. But this commodity has never been planted even though the market price is much higher. This land suitability research uses fuzzy logic method. Each land indicator is considered to have a possibility with a value range of 0 to 1. This allows land indicators to collaborate with other indicators to create more precise conformity values. The suitability of arabica coffee plantation land in Tanah Datar Regency has two suitability classes, namely, "less suitable with an area of 2,118,719.5 Ha and a class of "quite suitable" covering an area of 12,691.87 Ha.
